Effects of equipment parameters, ambient parameters and concrete surface moisture on the acquisition of fair-faced concrete appearance quality information

Abstract:Fair-faced concrete has attracted much attention in green building engineering. An accurate, efficient, and quantitative evaluation method is needed for its appearance quality control. The objective of this manuscript is to determine the influences of acquisition equipment parameters (scanner accuracy, speed, and height), environmental parameters (temperature and illumination), and concrete surface moisture content on the surface information acquisition of fair-faced concrete. The results show that when the scanner accuracy is 300dpi × 300dpi, scanning speed is 185 mm/s and scanning height is 3.5 ± 0.1 mm, the efficiency of acquiring concrete surface information is the highest. Temperature has little influence on the surface pore area ratio, standard deviation of self-specific color difference, and standard deviation of design color difference, the maximum difference between the scanner and manual measurement is 0.7%, 2.9%, and 2.0%, respectively. The influence of illumination cannot be ignored. Environmental illumination in 5000–20,000 Lux can get a stable result. When the surface moisture decreases from 100% to 0%, the maximum difference between surface pore area ratio, standard deviation of self-specific color difference, standard deviation of design color difference and manual measurement value is no more than 4.8%, 13.2% and 67.8%, respectively. When the surface moisture is reduced below 5%, the effect on the apparent information acquisition of concrete can be ignored. According to the research results, the optimal acquisition parameters were proposed. The research results can provide a useful reference for evaluation of appearance quality of fair-faced concrete.
