Abstract:Warm incremental sheet forming emerges as a promising technique for fabricating complex components which is crucial in aerospace, automotive, and biomedical applications. The research investigates formability aspects by systematically assessing the effect of temperature and process parameters on CP titanium grade 2 sheet metal. The investigation looks into the effect of process parameters, specifically tool diameter, step depth, and feed rate at a temperature of 650 °C. Variable wall angle pyramidal frustum (VWAPF) and variable wall angle conical frustum (VWACF) components are formed and analyzed during experimental process. The forming limit curve (FLC) for CP titanium Gr 2 sheets is plotted using obtained data. Results show that VWACF and VWAPF components, formed with process parameters set at tool diameter of 8 mm, step depth of 0.4 mm, and feed rate of 275 mm/min, exhibit superior formability as compared to other experimental conditions. The thinning limits are found to be different at VWACF and VWAPF due to the stress triaxiality factor. The experimental part thicknesses are compared with theoretical relations. The observed overall thickness deviation for VWACF and VWAPF components under test conditions is 10.13% and 9.79%, respectively. These established FLCs serve as predictive tools to evaluate the feasibility of manufacturing products using single-point incremental forming. The microstructural features are studied and correlated with Vickers micro-hardness results.
