Abstract:We prove characterizations of Appell polynomials by means of symmetric property. For these polynomials, we establish a simple linear expression in terms of Bernoulli and Euler polynomials. As applications, we give interesting examples. In addition, from our study, we obtain Fourier expansions of Appell polynomials. This result recovers Fourier expansions known for Bernoulli and Euler polynomials and obtains the Fourier expansions for higher order Bernoulli-Euler's one.

Abstract:We consider the subset ({mathcal {R}}) of Appell polynomials whose exponential generating function is given in terms of the moment generating function of a certain random variable Y. This subset contains the Hermite, Bernoulli, Apostol–Euler, and Cauchy type polynomials, as well as various kinds of their generalizations, among others. We obtain closed form expressions for higher order convolutions of Appell polynomials in the subset ({mathcal {R}}). We give a unified approach mainly based on random scale transformations of Appell polynomials, as well as on a probabilistic generalization of the Stirling numbers of the second kind. Different illustrative examples, including reformulations of convolution identities already known in the literature, are discussed in detail. In such examples, the convolution identities involve the classical Stirling numbers.

Abstract:In this paper, we propose a unified approach to matrix representations of different types of Appell polynomials. This approach is based on the creation matrix – a special matrix which has only the natural numbers as entries and is closely related to the well-known Pascal matrix. By this means, we stress the arithmetical origins of Appell polynomials. The approach also allows to derive, in a simplified way, the properties of Appell polynomials by using only matrix operations.

Abstract:We show that any Appell sequence can be written in closed form as a forward difference transformation of the identity. Such transformations are actually multipliers in the abelian group of the Appell polynomials endowed with the operation of binomial convolution. As a consequence, we obtain explicit expressions for higher order convolution identities referring to various kinds of Appell polynomials in terms of the Stirling numbers. Applications of the preceding results to generalized Bernoulli and Apostol-Euler polynomials of real order are discussed in detail.

Abstract:The Apéry polynomials are given byAn(x)=∑k=0n(nk)2(n+kk)2xk(n=0,1,2,…). (Those An=An(1) are Apéry numbers.) Let p be an odd prime. We show that∑k=0p−1(−1)kAk(x)≡∑k=0p−1(2kk)316kxk(modp2), and that∑k=0p−1Ak(x)≡(xp)∑k=0p−1(4kk,k,k,k)(256x)k(modp) for any p-adic integer x≢0(modp). This enables us to determine explicitly ∑k=0p−1(±1)kAkmodp, and ∑k=0p−1(−1)kAkmodp2 in the case p≡2(mod3). Another consequence states that∑k=0p−1(−1)kAk(−2)≡{4x2−2p(modp2)if p=x2+4y2(x,y∈Z),0(modp2)if p≡3(mod4). Abstract:This paper summarizes some known results about Appell polynomials and investigates their various analogs. The primary of these are the free Appell polynomials. In the multivariate case, they can be considered as natural analogs of the Appell polynomials among polynomials in non-commuting variables. They also fit well into the framework of free probability. For the free Appell polynomials, a number of combinatorial and "diagram" formulas are proven, such as the formulas for their linearization coefficients. An explicit formula for their generating function is obtained. These polynomials are also martingales for free Levy processes. For more general free Sheffer families, a necessary condition for pseudo-orthogonality is given. Another family investigated are the Kailath-Segall polynomials. These are multivariate polynomials, which share with the Appell polynomials nice combinatorial properties, but are always orthogonal. Their origins lie in the Fock space representations, or in the theory of multiple stochastic integrals. Diagram formulas are proven for these polynomials as well, even in the q-deformed case.

Abstract:One variant of the $q$-Catalan polynomials is defined in terms of Gaussian polynomials by $\mathcal{C}_k(q)=\genfrac{[}{]}{0pt}{}{2k}{k}_q-q\genfrac{[}{]}{0pt}{}{2k}{k+1}_q$. Liu studied congruences of the form $\sum_{k=0}^{n-1} q^k\mathcal{C}_k$ modulo the cyclotomic polynomial $\Phi_n(q)^2$, provided that $n\equiv\pm 1\pmod3$. Apparently the case $n\equiv 0\pmod3$ has been missing from the literature. It is our primary purpose to fill this gap by the current work. In addition, we discuss certain fascinating link to Dirichlet character sum identities.

Abstract:In this note, by using the Hasse-Teichmüller derivatives, we obtain two explicit expressions for the related numbers of higher order Appell polynomials. One of them presents a determinant expression for the related numbers of higher order Appell polynomials, which involves several determinant expressions of special numbers, such as the higher order generalized hypergeometric Bernoulli and Cauchy numbers, thus recovers the classical determinant expressions of Bernoulli and Cauchy numbers stated in an article by Glaisher in 1875.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the umbral representation of the Fubini polynomials $F_{x}^{n}:=F_{n}(x)$ to derive some properties involving these polynomials. For any prime number $p$ and any polynomial $f$ with integer coefficients, we show $(f(F_{x}))^{p}\equiv f(F_{x})$ and we give other curious congruences.

Abstract:Recently the authors presented a matrix representation approach to real Appell polynomials essentially determined by a nilpotent matrix with natural number entries. It allows to consider a set of real Appell polynomials as solution of a suitable first order initial value problem. The paper aims to confirm that the unifying character of this approach can also be applied to the construction of homogeneous Appell polynomials that are solutions of a generalized Cauchy-Riemann system in Euclidean spaces of arbitrary dimension. The result contributes to the development of techniques for polynomial approximation and interpolation in non-commutative Hypercomplex Function Theories with Clifford algebras.

Abstract:The objective of this article is to introduce the ∆h bivariate Appell polynomials ∆hAs[r](λ,η;h) and their extended form via fractional operators. The study described in this paper follows the line of study in which the monomiality principle is used to develop new results. It is further discovered that these polynomials satisfy various well-known fundamental properties and explicit forms. The explicit series representation of ∆h bivariate Gould–Hopper polynomials is first obtained, and, using this outcome, the explicit series representation of the ∆h bivariate Appell polynomials is further given. The quasimonomial properties fulfilled by bivariate Appell polynomials ∆h are also proved by demonstrating that the ∆h bivariate Appell polynomials exhibit certain properties related to their behavior under multiplication and differentiation operators. The determinant form of ∆h bivariate Appell polynomials is provided, and symmetric identities for the ∆h bivariate Appell polynomials are also exhibited. By employing the concept of the forward difference operator, operational connections are established, and certain applications are derived. Different Appell polynomial members can be generated by using appropriate choices of functions in the generating expression obtained in this study for ∆h bivariate Appell polynomials. Additionally, generating relations for the ∆h bivariate Bernoulli and Euler polynomials, as well as for Genocchi polynomials, are established, and corresponding results are obtained for those polynomials.

Abstract:We prove that mod-$p$ congruences between polynomials in $\mathbb{Z}_p[X]$ are equivalent to deeper $p$-power congruences between power-sum functions of their roots. This result generalizes to torsion-free $\mathbb{Z}_{(p)}$-algebras modulo divided-power ideals. Our approach is combinatorial: we introduce a $p$-equivalence relation on partitions, and use it to prove that certain linear combinations of power-sum functions are $p$-integral. We also include a second proof, short and algebraic, suggested by an anonymous referee. As a corollary we obtain a refinement of the Brauer-Nesbitt theorem for a single linear operator, motivated by the study of Hecke modules of mod-$p$ modular forms.

Abstract:We promote the recent research by Akiyama and Kaneko on the higher-order derivative values $\Phi_n^{(k)}(1)$ of the cyclotomic polynomials. This article focuses on Lehmer's explicit formula of $\Phi_n^{(k)}(1)/\Phi_n(1)$ as a polynomial of the Euler and Jordan totient functions over $\mathbb{Q}$. Then we prove Akiyama-Kaneko's conjecture that the polynomials have a specific simple factor.
