Abstract:Ferrite permanent magnets use iron oxide, a by-product of iron-making that constitutes 90 wt.% of their primary raw material. In addition, 100% of waste ferrite magnets can be recycled into new magnets after crushing, making this sustainable material important for participation in the circular economy. Strontium-based ferrite magnets are manufactured using a combination of two materials, Fe 2 O 3 and SrCO 3 , with their molar ratio being a crucial factor in determining the properties of the magnets. The formulation design of the ferrite magnet starts from the molar ratio of Fe 2 O 3 to SrCO 3 to additives used in the calcination stage. During the fine milling stage of the magnet, there are still several additives that are further used as sintering aids or to modulate their magnetic properties, which are also part of the formulation of strontium ferrite material. Here, the information provided by phase diagrams is used to investigate the formulation design of Sr ferrite magnets. The study focuses on the correlation between the molar ratios of magnets' main composition, the setting of amounts of trace additives, and the phase diagrams of the materials. The effect of these design parameters on the magnetic properties of the final magnets can be verified from the magnetic property results of the final magnets and microstructure analysis.
