Abstract:The one-step oxidation of benzene to phenol represents a significant and promising advancement in modern industries focused on the production of high-value-added chemical products. Nevertheless, challenges persist in achieving sufficient catalytic selectivity and preventing over-oxidation. Inspired by copper enzymes, we present a nonsymmetric diopper complex ([CuII2(TPMAN)(μ-OH)(H2O)]3+, 1) for the selective oxidation of benzene to phenol. Utilizing H2O2 as the oxidant, complex 1 demonstrates remarkable catalytic activity (TON of 14000 within 29 hours) and selectivity exceeding 97%, comparable to the finest homogeneous catalyst derived from first-row transition metals. Noteworthy, the significant substitute effect, alongside a negligible kinetic isotope effect (KIE = 1.05), radical trapping experiments, as well as the inconsistent standard selectivity test of •OH radical, all disapprove the conventional Fenton mechanism and rebound pathway. Theoretical investigations indicate that the active CuII(μ-O•)CuII-OH species generated through the cleavage of the O-O bond in the CuII(μ-1,1-OOH)CuI intermediate, facilitates the hydroxylation of benzene via an electrophilic attack mechanism. The nonsymmetric coordination geometry is crucial in activating the H2O2 and in the process of O-O bond cleavage.

Abstract:An air-stable supported Cu(I) catalyst, CuI@PS-Phen, was designed and synthesized. CuI@PS-Phen can efficiently catalyze the click polymerization of diynes a and diazides b to produce soluble and thermally stable polytriazoles with high molecular weights ( M w up to 30800), and low copper residue content (down to 190 ppm) in high yields (up to 94.2%) under mild reaction conditions without the exclusion of oxygen.

Abstract:We have researched and developed a series of copper phthalocyanine derivatives as new highly active and reusable catalysts for the hydroxylation of (hetero)aryl halides. The perfluorinated copper phthalocyanine (CuPcF16) showed the highest activity for the hydroxylation of aryl iodide with an excellent yield (up to 98%) under low catalytic loading (0.5 mol% CuPcF16). Similarly, the hydroxylation of aryl bromides and aryl chlorides catalyzed by CuPcF16 also had high activity with 42∼98% yield. Moreover, the recyclability of this catalyst can up to 6 times without significant loss in catalytic activity.

Abstract:A novel metal catalyst-free and environmentally friendly method for the regioselective iodination of imidazo[1,2-α]pyridines at their C3 position is disclosed, which has a wide substrate scope and could be sustainable. This reaction proceeds through ultrasound acceleration in the presence of a green alcohol solvent. Compared with a conventional heating system, the reaction efficiency and the rate are significantly improved and the iodine atom economy is maximized using ultrasound techniques.

Abstract:A highly regioselective iodosulfonylation of allenes in the presence of CuI and 1,10-phenanthroline has been developed for the synthesis of various useful ( E)-α-iodomethyl vinylsulfones in moderate to excellent yields. This practical reaction is fast, operationally simple, and in particular, proceeds under very mild conditions to afford the target products with high regio- and stereoselectivity. The selectivity was illustrated by a conceptual DFT analysis.

Abstract:Hydroxylated (hetero)arenes are privileged motifs in natural products, materials, small-molecule pharmaceuticals and serve as versatile intermediates in synthetic organic chemistry. Herein, we report an efficient Cu(I)/6-hydroxy picolinohydrazide-catalyzed hydroxylation reaction of (hetero)aryl halides (Br, Cl) in water. By establishing machine learning (ML) models, the design of ligands and optimization of reaction conditions were effectively accelerated. L32 (6-HPA-DMCA) demonstrated high efficiency for (hetero)aryl bromides, promoting hydroxylation reactions with a minimal catalyst loading of 0.01 mol% (100 ppm) at 80 °C to reach 10000 TON or under near-room temperature conditions for substrates containing sensitive functional groups (3.0 mol%); L42 (6-HPA-DTBCA) displayed superior reaction activity for chloride substrates, enabling hydroxylation reactions at 100 °C with 2-3 mol% catalyst loading. These represent the state of art for both lowest catalyst loading and temperature in the copper-catalyzed hydroxylation reactions. Furthermore, this method features a sustainable and environmentally friendly solvent system, accommodates a wide range of substrates, and shows potential for developing robust and scalable synthesis processes for key pharmaceutical intermediates.

Abstract:A general and mild hydrosilylation of thioalkynes is described. With the cationic catalyst [Cp*Ru(MeCN)3 ](+) and the bulky silane (TMSO)3 SiH, a range of thioalkynes underwent smooth hydrosilylation at room temperature with excellent α regioselectivity and syn stereoselectivity. DFT calculations provided important insight into the mechanism, particularly the unusual syn selectivity with the [Cp*Ru(MeCN)3 ](+) catalyst. The sulfenyl group in the substrates was found to provide important chelation stabilization to direct the reaction through a new mechanistic pathway.

Abstract:Herein, we report the α‐C–H acyloxylation of sulfides and disulfides enabled by hypervalent iodine(III) reagents via photoredox catalysis. The methoxylbenziodoxole derivatives serve as the hydrogen atom transfer agent, the mild oxidant, and the acyloxylation source in the reaction. External nucleophiles can also be introduced to the α‐C–H of sulfides. The reaction applies to various aryl and alkyl sulfides including methionine peptide derivatives. Disulfides are applicable for the first time with excellent chemoselectivity and functional group compatibility.

Abstract:Phenoxathiin and its derivatives have attracted a great deal of interest due to their unique chemical and physical properties and their applications in fluorescent materials, antifungal activities and selective inhibitors. In the presence of copper supported on manganese oxide-based octahedral molecular sieves OMS-2 (CuOx/OMS-2), the heterogeneously catalytic synthesis of phenoxathiinan derivatives via intramolecular arylations of phenols with aryl bromide or aryl chloride has been achieved. TEM and XRD have confirmed the CuOx/OMS-2 catalyst has been successfully reused 8 times without a significant decrease in the yield, with simple filtration and washing as a means of separation. Abstract:A versatile method for radical reductive cross-coupling of iodides and activated olefins under mild conditions, facilitated by NHC-BH3 through photocatalysis, was developed. This method exhibits high efficiency and regioselectivity, achieving yields of up to 98% for aryl, heterocyclic, and alkyl iodides. The reaction employs a minimal amount (1.0 mol%) of photocatalyst and can be performed on a gram scale. Importantly, this approach avoids the use of transition metal co-catalysts, eliminating the need for traditional C-I bond cleavage steps such as oxidative addition, migration insertion, and halogen exchange. This work unveils a novel mechanism for the reductive coupling of iodides in a photocatalytic NHC-BH3 system, providing insights into iodide modification and the functional exploration of NHC-BH3.

Abstract:Using cuprous iodide as the catalyst, aryl halides reacted with phenols to form diaryl ethers. The reaction conditions were optimized: aryl halides (1 equiv) reacted with phenol (1 equiv) at 130 degrees C in DMF for 16 h with cuprous iodide (10 mol %), cesium carbonate (2.5 equiv) as the base, and tetramethylenediamine (5 mol %) as the ligand. Under the optimum conditions, reaction conversion with time was summarized. The structural parameters of four types of aryl halides and the ionization energy of various C-X bond lengths in all aryl halides-CuI pi-complexes were calculated at the B3LYP/LANL2MB level by using the Gaussian 03 program and the corresponding Ullman reaction conversion was determined by HPLC. Results suggested that different relationships existed between reactivity and the energy of the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital E-LUMO, mean polarizability alpha and dipole moment mu. Both experimental and theoretical results, all displayed Ullman coupling reactivity order of the four aryl halides: fluorobenzene << chlorobenzene < bromobenzene < iodobenzene.

Abstract:Air-stable P-chiral dihydrobenzooxaphosphole oxazoline ligands were designed and synthesized. When they were used in the iridium-catalyzed asymmetric hydrogenation of unfunctionalized 1-aryl-3,4-dihydronaphthalenes under one atmosphere pressure of H2 , up to 99:1 e.r. was obtained. High enantioselectivities were also observed in the reduction of the exocyclic imine derivatives of 1-tetralones.

Abstract:A mild method was developed for the direct C–H iodination of 1,3-azoles catalysed by CuBr2. Compared with the traditional metalation/iodination sequences carried out with nBuLi or TMPLi (TMP=2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidino), a relatively weaker base, LiOtBu, was used in the presence of 1,10-phenanthroline. Five series of 1,3-azoles, including benzoxazole, benzothiozole, N-methyl-benzoimidazole, 5-phenyloxazole and 2-phenyl-1,3,4-oxadiazole were tested and afforded the corresponding iodination products.

Abstract:Piperidines are one of the most widely used building blocks in the synthesis of pharmaceutical and agrochemical compounds. The hydrogenation of pyridines is a convenient method to synthesise such compounds as it only requires reactant, catalyst, and a hydrogen source. However, this reaction still remains difficult for the reduction of functionalised and multi-substituted pyridines. Here we report the use of a stable, commercially available rhodium compound, Rh2O3, for the reduction of various unprotected pyridines. The reaction only requires mild conditions, and the substrate scope is broad, making it practically useful.

Abstract:Direct hydroxylation of arenes to phenols with hydrogen peroxide as a green oxidant is an attractive approach. In the present study, we prepared several copper (II) complexes bearing tetra- (N4), tri- (N3) and pentadentate (N5) ligands, and the copperII-N4 complex could act as an efficient catalyst for hydroxylation of benzenes with H2O2 (up to 22.4% yield of phenols with 10.0 equiv. H2O2, and 38.0% yield of phenol with limited amount of H2O2) at room temperature. X-ray crystallographic analysis indicates that the CuII-N4 complex exhibits a square-pyramidal geometry and that two methyl groups connecting to the diamine are cis to each other. In comparison, copper(II) complexes supported by tri- (N3) and pentadentate (N5) ligands were also evaluated in the hydroxylation of benzene, demonstrating inferior performance.
