Abstract:A mild and efficient method for the synthesis of 2,5-disubstituted chalcogenophenes is reported. This method involves two steps of reactions via one-pot approach by employing commercially available and cost-effective alkynes and element chalcogen. Further, by using LiNH2 as the promoter and DMSO/EtOH as the solvent, Cu-catalyzed Glaser coupling-cycloaddition processes are dramatically enhanced that a diverse range of chalcogenophenes can be obtained in good to excellent yields under mild conditions. Controlled experiments show that trisulfur radical anion (S3 & sdot;-) is the key intermediate and DMSO/EtOH serves as the hydrogen source, while alcohol may facilitate the transition state. The mild and highly efficient constructions of 2,5-disubstitued thiophenes, selenophenes and tellurophenes are achieved by using a one-pot, two-step protocol that combine Cu-catalyzed Glaser coupling with LiNH2-mediated cycloaddition. And the DMSO/EtOH mixture solvent is found to short the reaction time and improve the reaction yield by promoting the production of S3 & sdot;- and stabilizing the transition state.image

Abstract:Copper(II)-catalyzed synthesis of sulfones from sulfinate salts and aryl halides was investigated by means of a combination of experiment and DFT calculation. Experimental results demonstrated the wide applicability of the title approach. The reaction mechanisms are revealed by in-situ IR and theoretical study. It reveals remarkable ligand effect the bidentate amine plays in the reaction, that is, it initially activats the C-I bond of iodobenzene so as to enhance the whole catalytic process. Abstract:2-(Phenylthio)phenols were successfully synthesized from simple phenols and aromatic halides by using dimethyl sulfoxide as the oxidant. The transformation was accomplished via tandem copper(I)-catalyzed C-S coupling/C-H functionalization employing the CuI/L [L = (E)-3-(dimethylamino)-1-(2-hydroxyphenyl)prop-2-en-1-one] catalyst system. The mechanism of the reaction was elucidated based on an isotope labeling strategy.

Abstract:An efficient and mild vinylation of 0-, S-, and N-nucleophiles is reported. Copper(I) iodide/ethyl 2-oxocyclohexanecarboxylate is used as the catalytic system. The protocol tolerates a broad range of functional groups on the substrates, and gives the corresponding aryl styryl ethers, aryl styryl sulfides, and N-styrylimidazoles in moderate to excellent yields as well as with good stereoselectivity.

Abstract:A copper-catalyzed three-component coupling reaction of styrene oxide, aryl iodide, and carbon disulfide for the construction of β-hydroxysulfides has been developed. In this process, readily available CS(2) was used as the sulfur source to construct C-S bonds for the synthesis of phenyl-β-hydroxysulfides and (benzo[d]thiazol)-β-hydroxysulfides. This process features mild reaction conditions, simple operation, and wide substrate scope (>50 examples).

Abstract:Herein, a copper(I)-catalyzed asymmetric hydrophosphination of 3,3-disubstituted cyclopropenes is reported. It provides a series of phosphine derivatives in high to excellent diastereo- and enantioselectivities. The methodology enjoys broad substrate scope on both 3,3-disubstituted cyclopropenes and diarylphosphines. The high stereoselectivity is attributed to both the high stability of the Cu(I)-(R,R)-QUINOXP* complex in the presence of stoichiometric HPPh2 and the produced phosphines, and the high-performance asymmetric induction of the Cu(I)-(R,R)-QUINOXP* complex. Finally, the method is used for the synthesis of new chiral phosphine-olefin compounds built on a cyclopropane skeleton, one of which serves as a wonderful ligand in Rh-catalyzed asymmetric conjugate addition of phenylboronic acid to various α,β-unsaturated compounds.

Abstract:A selective copper(I)-catalyzed benzylic C(sp3)–H geminal difunctionalization reaction of a benzylic-type sp3 carbon was developed. This novel strategy allowed simultaneous introduction of amide and hydroxyl group in a highly selective and efficient way via successive oxidative intramolecular amidation and hydroxylation. This method was also applied to the synthesis of 3-hydroxy-2,3-dihydro-1H-pyrrolo[3,4-b]quinoxalinones from readily available 3-methyl-N-substituted quinoxaline-2-carboxamides in moderate to good yields. The five-membered cyclic hemiaminal moiety of the pyrrolo[3,4-b]quinoxalinones can serve as an intermediates for subsequent transformations into other useful functional groups.

Abstract:A simple protocol for the stereoselective copper-catalyzed hydrothiolation of alkynes under a CO(2) atmosphere has been developed. The stereoselectivity is determined by the presence/absence of a CO(2) atmosphere. The reaction system is robust and utilizes inexpensive, readily available substrates. A cyclic alkene/carboxylate copper complex intermediate is proposed as the key step in determining the stereoselectivity, and an equivalent amount of water is found to play an active role as a proton donor.

Abstract:We developed an efficient and convenient method for preparing N-substituted 2H- 1,4-benzoxazin-3-(4H)-ones from 2-halophenols via a nucleophilic substitution with 2-chloroacetamides followed by a Cul-catalyzed coupling cyclization. A broad spectrum of substrates can be effectively employed to afford the desired products in good yields. Since this method involves simple reaction conditions, a short reaction time, and a broad substrate scope, it is particularly attractive for the efficient preparation of biologically and medicinally interesting molecules.
