The lost proof of Fermat's last theorem

Abstract:This work contains two papers: the first published in 2022 and entitled "On the nature of some Euler's double equations equivalent to Fermat's last theorem" provides a marvellous proof through the so-called discordant forms of appropriate Euler's double equations, which could have entered in a not very narrow margin and the second instead published in 2024 and entitled "Some Diophantus-Fermat double equations equivalent to Frey's elliptic curve" provides the possible proof, which Fermat has not published in detail, but which uses the characteristic of all right-angled triangles with sides equal to whole numbers, or the famous Pythagorean identity. Some explanations in session(III) are provided: the first makes evident the nature of the "proof a' la Fermat" and the subsequent sessions clarify the direct and interesting connection of the two elementary proofs and it is necessary if you want to understand how two different elementary proofs of Fermat's Last Theorem are possible. It must be observed that those proofs must in no way be interpreted as a sort of absurd revenge of elementary number theory over more modern analytic and algebraic treatments.The author himself has added a section in which he connects his concepts with some of those used by Wiles in his complex demonstration.This implies that, to a certain extent, Wiles' demonstration inspired the author of those works. Ultimately in this paper we will illustrate how only thanks to some of Euler's discoveries was it possible to shed light on the so-called too narrow margin never written by Fermat. For this reason we will also provide some details on an article that was the real inspiration for achieving these results (see Last Conclusions).

Abstract:In the above paper (H. H. Choi, IEEE Trans. Automat. Contr., vol. 46, pp. 504-8, 2001), new methods to obtain upper matrix bounds for a discrete algebraic Riccati equation (DARE) have been established, but the author assumes that the system matrix A is nonsingular and DARE has a positive-definite solution. In this note, some similar results can be obtained when a solution is positive-semidefinite and there are no extra assumption that A is nonsingular. In reply the original author explains some of the underlying assumptions and comments on the computational burdens in the inequality in the commenters' note.

Abstract:This paper is submitted to Algebraic-Number-Theory Archives for validation by Number Theorists Community. It is an update of the previous versions ANT-0155, ANT-0170, ANT-0205, ANT-0237, ANT-0321, ANT-0333, and ANT-0356, of which the first four were titled `A generalization of Eichler criterium for Fermat's Last Theorem' and the last three were titled `A classical approach on Fermat-Wiles theorem'. This version contains a complete reorganization of the paper with a first part dealing with cyclotomic fields (independently of FLT) from page 10 to 72 and a second part dealing with FLT from page 73 to end. This version improves our previous results on cyclotomic fields and contains several significant error corrections. The proofs rest on classical theory of cyclotomic number fields $\Q(zeta_p)$.

Abstract:Mathematics and Mechanics of Solids, Ahead of Print. This comment discusses the derivation procedure of stress distribution formulas for an infinite elastic plate with an elliptic hole under uniform tension, as presented by M. Oore and S. Oore. While the authors use a heuristic three-step procedure, it is shown that these derivations can be simplified using Maple 2023 or manually. This confirms the exactness of the authors' formulas, asserting their role as definitive closed-form solutions.

Abstract:To apply the Euler system method to a $p$-adic Galois representation $T$, one needs the existence of a $\sigma \in G_{\mathbb{Q}(\mu_{p^{\infty}})}$ such that $V/(\sigma-1)V$ is free of rank one over the coefficient ring: we say that such a $\sigma$ is an Euler-suitable element for $V$. Given a non-CM classical newform $f$ of weight $k \geq 2$ and character $\chi$, a classical newform $g$ of weight $1$ and character $\psi$, and a prime ideal $\mathfrak{p}$ of residue characteristic $p$ of a sufficiently large number field, we consider the situation where $V=V_{f,g,\mathfrak{p}}$ is the tensor product of the $\mathfrak{p}$-adic representations attached to $f$ and $g$. D. Loeffler asked the following question: is is true that if $\chi\psi \neq 1$, then there is an Euler-suitable element for $V_{f,g,\mathfrak{p}}$ for all but finitely many $\mathfrak{p}$? He gave a positive answer when $f,g$ had coprime conductors. We give several weaker sufficient conditions to answer this question in the affirmative. As an application, we remove some of the technical assumptions in the version of the Bloch-Kato Conjecture proved in

Abstract:In the Letter 'Comment on 'Affine density, von Neumann dimension and a problem of Perelomov', arXiv.2211.04879, by Prof. J. L. Romero, it is claimed that the main theorem of Ref2 := [Adv. Math. 407, Article ID 108564, 22 p. (2022)] is included in the prior research survey Ref1 := [Expo. Math., 40(2), 265-301, 2022]. We provide some background, and demonstrate with hard facts that this claim is false, as well as other claims in the Letter which, in most cases, either result from wrong mathematical reasoning or objectively differ from what is written in the published material. The author might be interested in publicly retracting and apologising for his comments.

Abstract:In this paper we analyze the status of some `unbelievable results' presented in the paper `On Some Contradictory Computations in Multi-Dimensional Mathematics' [1] published in Nonlinear Analysis, a journal indexed in the Science Citation Index. Among some of the unbelievable results `proved' in the paper we can find statements like that: (i) a linear transformation which is a rotation in R^2 with rotation angle theta different from nphi/2, is inconsistent with arithmetic, (ii) complex number theory is inconsistent. Besides these 'results' of mathematical nature [1],offers also a `proof' that Special Relativity is inconsistent. Now, we are left with only two options (a) the results of [1] are correct and in this case we need a revolution in Mathematics (and also in Physics) or (b) the paper is a potpourri of nonsense. We show that option (b) is the correct one. All `proofs' appearing in [1] are trivially wrong, being based on a poor knowledge of advanced calculus notions. There are many examples (some of them discussed in [2,3,4,5,6]of complete wrong papers using nonsequitur Mathematics in the Physics literature. Taking into account also that a paper like [1] appeared in a Mathematics journal we think that it is time for editors and referees of scientific journals to become more careful in order to avoid the dissemination of nonsense.

Abstract:We make conjectures on the moments of the central values of the family of all elliptic curves and on the moments of the first derivative of the central values of a large family of positive rank curves. In both cases the order of magnitude is the same as that of the moments of the central values of an orthogonal family of L-functions. Notably, we predict that the critical values of all rank 1 elliptic curves is logarithmically larger than the rank 1 curves in the positive rank family. Furthermore, as arithmetical applications we make a conjecture on the distribution of a_p's amongst all rank 2 elliptic curves, and also show how the Riemann hypothesis can be deduced from sufficient knowledge of the first moment of the positive rank family (based on an idea of Iwaniec).

Abstract:A list of various types of connected, closed oriented manifolds are given. Each of the manifolds support some of the well-known compact transformation group properties enjoyed by aspherical manifolds. We list and describe these classes and their transformation group properties in increasing generality. We show by various examples that these implications can never be reversed. This establishes a hierarchy in terms of spaces in one direction and the properties they enjoy in the opposite direction.
