Abstract:The concept of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) emerged in the last decade, with various applications proposed.It was envisioned that the ubiquitous sensing and communication devices would soon be integrated into our daily life, to provide information and convenience wherever and whenever we need.However, to date, we have yet to see mass adoption of such applications, mainly due to the lack of viable wireless sensing devices, as well as the fragmentation of the data storage, computing, and networking infrastructure.Recent advances in the field of artificial intelligence, big data, and cloud computing, as well as concurrent attempts in standardization in low-power wireless networking and security, are paving the way for the commercialization of WSN applications.With the commercial ecosystem getting in place and infrastructures becoming mature, the challenge lies in the research and development in low-cost, miniaturized, and self-sustaining circuits and systems, to realize sensing and wireless communication functionalities which are critical in the future WSN landscape.In this special issue, the latest research efforts on circuits and systems for wireless sensing are presented.10 research papers are published in this issue, covering a wide variety of topics including MAC and routing protocols for wireless sensor networks, integrated circuits, and devices for wireless sensors, as well as complete wireless sensor systems for real world applications.The highlights of these papers are summarized as follows."A 5 V-to-3.3V CMOS Linear Regulator with Three-Output Temperature-Independent Reference Voltages" by

Abstract:The technology in modern mobile communication, wireless local area networks and global position system for mobile communication has been innovated rapidly, which asks the microwave electronic components based on microwave dielectric ceramics to have better performances. In recent years, microwave dielectric ceramic components with the characteristics of miniature, high frequency, chip level, module form and the related dielectric ceramics have been developed fast. The progresses and problems in microwave dielectric ceramics of high frequency, high dielectric constant or low-temperature sintering are reviewed. The structures and dielectric characteristics of various material systems are studied. The changing regularities of the dielectric characteristics and structures of microwave dielectric ceramics based on the ion substitutions are analyzed. The progress and production of microwave dielectric ceramic components for dielectric resonance, multilayer structure and functional module are described. Those materials and components related with low temperature co-fired technology are discussed emphatically. The relationship between microwave components structure and microwave characteristics is investigated. The future prospects of the material and its applications are provided.

Abstract:Based on the traditional microwave damage mechanism of RF devices, this paper proposed a special microwave damage theory of RF devices under specific environmental conditions and verifies the correctness of the theory by means of device physical simulation analysis and comparative test verification. The results show that the damage threshold of the same device under the same injection condition is about 4 to 6 dB different in the two typical environments. This research is of reference significance in the field of high power microwave technology.

Abstract:In recent years, great progress has been made in the application and development of radio frequency integrated circuits (RF IC), while the research of CMOS RF IC's is becoming a hot topic in this field. The application of CMOS technology to RF and microwave domain is discussed, and the commonly used transceiver architectures are elaborated, together with their problems and solutions. Moreover, the key front-end blocks in the transceiver, including low noise amplifier (LNA), mixer, voltage controlled oscillator (VCO), power amplifier (PA) and passive elements, have been summarized. Finally, the future research direction of CMOS technology in RF IC domain is examined.
