Abstract:A novel facile fabrication method was adopted for the first time to fabricate continuous, uniform, and stable metal-organic framework-5 (MOF-5), supported on flexible and freestanding electrospun chitosan/(polyethylene oxide) (PEO) membrane fibers with comprehensive PM2.5 removal properties at room temperature. Carboxyl groups were introduced to connect amino groups on the chitosan nanofibers at an early stage; Zn2+ then had the opportunity for uniform chemical bonding to the surface of the functional carboxyl groups of the chitosan/PEO fibers. Finally, preferentially oriented, highly ordered, uniform, and stable MOF-5 crystals were secured along the continuous chitosan/PEO fibers via adjusting the speed of volatility of the triethylamine. This work provided that electrospun chitosan/PEO nanofibers could serve as an effective platform for obtaining a flexible and freestanding MOF-5 based membrane. The chitosan/PEO@MOF-5 nanofiber membrane showed PM2.5 filtration efficiency and quality factor were 99.95% and 0.0737 respectively. Additionally, our findings suggested that the prepared chitosan/PEO@MOF-5 nanofiber membrane could be a good candidate material for filtering PM2.5.
