Abstract:Journal of Humanistic Psychology, Ahead of Print. We all have the capacity to love, but the courage to do so must be cultivated! Once in a lifetime, if we are lucky, we meet that someone who has against insurmountable odds mastered the courage to love. One who doesn't simply talk it but whose very being exudes love. I consider myself of all people most fortunate to have befriended such a one in the person of Donna Rockwell. It is only through developing one's total personality to the capacity of loving one's neighbor with "true humility, courage, faith and discipline" that one attains the capacity to experience real love, and this should be considered a rare achievement. My friend, Donna Rockwell accomplished this! This little woman, small in stature yet a giant in the lives of so many, dared to love. And for this, Donna will forever be revered as a power-house in my life and in the field of Existential-Humanistic Psychology.

Abstract:This article describes my recent carved wood sculptures of warrior women as a response to and reimagination of historical and mythological accounts of Amazons. I emphasize aspects of queerness and gender non-conformity in the figurative sculptures through iconographical details. This body of work is grounded in readings of classical mythology and popular culture, as well as reference to historical Amazons and women warriors in African and Indian cultures.

Abstract:It is with great sadness and even greater appreciation that I honor the legacy of Dr. Maureen Allwood, who died suddenly on March 4, 2024. Dr. Allwood joined the JTD Editorial Board this year and immediately began work as a co-editor for a forthcoming Special Issue on Inequalities, Intersectionality, and Dissociation. It was my privilege and a genuine pleasure to bring Dr. Allwood into the ISST-D family after her 20 years of groundbreaking work as a clinical scholar, translational research scientist, educator, therapist in practice, and advocate, spanning the fields of youth development and traumatic stress, trauma-informed approaches to juvenile justice and prevention services, and the intersection of historical, racial, ethnic identity-based, and intergenerational trauma, hate crimes, and violence.

Abstract:This paper aims to investigate the concept of love and solidarity in human relationships, especially in their manifestation within virtual communities. Solidarity, understood as the highest feeling of connection between individuals, finds new forms of expression in the digital age, where physical distances are overcome by the ability to communicate and share experiences in an immediate and simplified way. The aim is to analyze the renewed sociological perspective on how to explore human interactions as a practical implication of the transition from physical to digital space, which, in spite of divergences, does not seem to reduce the quality of social ties but rather offers new ways of connection and interaction. Indeed, digital technologies can positively influence social dynamics by fostering the construction of community networks that act as catalysts for collective intelligence and knowledge sharing in the pursuit of collective wellbeing.

Abstract:This introduction provides an overview to this special issue honoring the work and legacy of Jeremy D. Safran. Born of the Jeremy Safran Memorial Conference, held on April 2nd, 2023, this issue features a wide range of contributions from leaders in the field, former students, and early career professionals whose work engages and develops central ideas from Safran's work and reflects on his impact on their own clinical work and scholarship. Themes center around the three domains of Safran's major contributions: pedagogy; psychotherapy integration; and Buddhism, spirituality, and psychoanalysis. We observe among the contributions an experiential reconnecting with the deeply relational commitments of our friend and colleague.

Abstract:This book unveils the concept of social love as a kind of "Karst River" that flows through the history of sociology, reassessing it as a form criticism by people in everyday life. Adopting an interdisciplinary perspective, this book offers both theoretical and empirical reflections on social love. It shows that love is not only central to the human experience, but that it can also help to interpret and intervene in social problems such as climate change, poverty, xenophobia, and the (post-)Covid crisis, recognizing people as actors in social change. It explores the idea of love as a key element in the promotion of solidarity and recognition in today's plural and unequal societies. Based on empirical research on social love conducted through both qualitative and quantitative methods, especially in Europe and Latin America, this book explores the social dimension of love. Abstract:This article presents reflections of a Pinay Scholar Warrior of Kapu Aloha and Mahalaya during the pandemic. Excerpts from her social media and reflections from her personal journal reveal the complexities of navigating fierce love in social work teaching and service. Issues related to facilitating critical analyses of social determinants of health, grief and loss, and rediscovering strengths and joys. Implications of women of color in the academy is alluded.

Abstract:Professor Marjorie Perloff was a distinguished scholar, poetry critic, and theorist. Her profound insights and unique perspectives on modern and contempo-rary American poetry have earned her high recognition in the international academic community. She was not only an Emeritus Professor at Stanford University and the University of Southern California but also a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and a fellow of the American Philosophical Society. Her research spanned multiple fields, with outstanding achievements particularly in avant-garde poetry and modernist and postmodernist theory. Her works, including The Poetics of Indeterminacy: Rimbaud to Cage, Radical Artifice: Writing Poetry in the Age of Me-dia, Infrathin: An Experiment in Micropoetics, have not only provided new perspec-tives for understanding modern poetry but also advanced the development of poetry theory, establishing leading theories such as the poetics of indeterminacy and micro-poetics. Professor Perloff also served as the long-term president of China-American Association for Poetry and Poetics, actively promoting cultural exchange between China and the United States and fostering deep cooperation in the field of poetry research. Though Professor Perloff passed away, she has left behind us a valuable academic legacy. We will always keep her in our hearts.

Abstract:Under the umbrella of love, this essay proffers five interrelated considerations in the politics of practice regarding social justice research. Consequently, I recommended inquiring more thoroughly into socio-economic class and leisure, unpacking our personal/professional and scholarly/activist binaries, examining our unearned privilege, avoiding the oppression Olympics, and employing and deploying intersectionality and participatory action research, respectively. By attending to these considerations specifically and concretely, I proffer a way to conduct a more socially just research in the field of leisure studies.

Abstract:Journal of Humanistic Psychology, Ahead of Print. Published posthumously in 1959, Freida Fromm-Reichmann's paper Loneliness was a pioneering work on a debilitating psychological condition which many health professionals today view as a global epidemic. Nevertheless, despite Fromm-Reichmann's high reputation among the founders of humanistic psychology, they ignored both the pernicious impact of loneliness on personal well-being and its wider roots in societal dysfunction: namely, what the political philosopher Hannah Arendt called atomization. This article places this indifference to loneliness within the zeitgeist of post-World War II America, in which the issue of social conformity, rather than the value of interpersonal ties, captured the attention of humanistic social thinkers.
