Abstract:In this paper, using some aspects of convex functions, we refine discrete Jensen's inequality via weight functions. Then, using these results, we give some applications in different abstract spaces and obtain some new interesting inequalities.

Abstract:We aim to extend some recent refinements of the Jensen inequality. First, we establish even more precise estimates for the Jensen inequality. Then, we derive an improvement of the Jensen inequality with regard to h ‐convexity. As an application, our main results are applied in deriving refinements of power mean inequalities and the Hölder inequality. Finally, we obtain more accurate estimates for f ‐divergences, important in the information theory.

Abstract:In this paper, we give a new refinement and extension of the well-known Jensen inequality for any mid-convex function f by arithmetic means of f evaluated at weighted arithmetic means of samples with repetitions. Our refinement provides the perfected and corrected version of the results given earlier by Pečarić and Svrtan (1998) [5]. As generalizations, we also obtain two other refinements of Jensen’s inequality.

Abstract:The Jensen inequality is of fundamental importance because of its influential and interesting consequences. In recent years, the Jensen inequality has been supposed to be the most engaging source for research. We present interesting improvements to the continuous version of Jensen's inequality through the application of the concept of 6-convexity. For real visualization and comparison to other results, some numerical experiments were provided. With the aid of the acquired results, improvements for the Hermite-Hadamard and Hölder inequalities were presented. Some relationships between the means were granted as applications of established improvements. In addition, some estimations of the Csiszár divergence and its associated cases were received as further applications of the obtained results. The major techniques employed in formulating the proposed improvements included the Jensen inequality and the concept of convexity.

Abstract:This article is dedicated to a refinement of the classical Jensen inequality by virtue of some finite real sequences. Inequalities for various means are obtained from this refinement. Also, from the proposed refinement, the authors acquired some inequalities for Csisz\^{a}r $\Psi$- divergence and for Shannon and Zipf-Mandelbrot entropies. The refinement is further generalized through several finite real sequences.

Abstract:In this paper we give a necessary and sufficient condition for the discrete Jensen inequality to be satisfied for real (not necessarily nonnegative) weights. The result generalizes and completes the classical Jensen–Steffensen inequality. The validity of the strict inequality is studied. As applications, we first give the form of our result for strongly convex functions, then we study discrete quasi-arithmetic means with real (not necessarily nonnegative) weights, and finally we refine the inequality obtained.

Abstract:We aim to establish refinements of the Jensen inequality for the classes of completely convex and absolutely convex functions. In the first case the refinement is expressed in terms of the alternating sum of Lidstone polynomials, while in the second case we deal with the sum of the Lidstone polynomials. As an application, more accurate power mean inequalities are derived. In particular, we obtain strengthened versions of arithmetic–geometric mean inequality in a difference and a quotient form. Finally, we also establish more accurate form of the Hölder inequality.

Abstract:It is well known that the traditional Jensen inequality is proved by lower bounding the given convex function, $f(x)$, by the tangential affine function that passes through the point $(E\{X\},f(E\{X\}))$, where $E\{X\}$ is the expectation of the random variable $X$. While this tangential affine function yields the tightest lower bound among all lower bounds induced by affine functions that are tangential to $f$, it turns out that when the function $f$ is just part of a more complicated expression whose expectation is to be bounded, the tightest lower bound might belong to a tangential affine function that passes through a point different than $(E\{X\},f(E\{X\}))$. In this paper, we take advantage of this observation, by optimizing the point of tangency with regard to the specific given expression, in a variety of cases, and thereby derive several families of inequalities, henceforth referred to as ``Jensen-like'' inequalities, which are new to the best knowledge of the author. The degree of tightness and the potential usefulness of these inequalities is demonstrated in several application examples related to information theory.

Abstract:The aim of this paper is to establish some refined versions of majorization inequality involving twice differentiable convex functions by using Taylor theorem with mean-value form of the remainder. Our results improve several results obtained in earlier literatures. As an application, the result is used for deriving a new fractional inequality.
