Abstract:Commercially available single wall carbon nanotube (SWCNT) soots are combined with an organic passivation scheme and shown to be an efficient rear contact and alternative to ALD-Al 2 O 3 /PECVD-SiNx/laser treatment in conventional passivated emitter and rear cell (PERC) solar cells. Both low carbonaceous purity 60–70% and 95% SWCNTs are tested and a power conversion efficiency of over 23% is demonstrated. The approach is simple, scalable and completely eliminates the metal-semiconductor contact known to cause high interfacial recombination in PERC technology. A low reverse saturation current density ( J 0 ) is achieved by varying the concentration and species of SWCNTs used and a full-area back surface field on an industrial sized (275.54 cm 2 ) solar cell is obtained.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is to improve the efficiency of industrial p - type silicon solar cells, while simplifying the manufacturing process and reducing costs. Specifically, the authors use commercial single - walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNT) in combination with an organic passivation scheme as the rear contact material for PERC (Passivated Emitter and Rear Cell) solar cells to replace the traditional ALD - Al₂O₃/PECVD - SiNₓ/laser treatment process. This method not only eliminates the high - interface - recombination problem caused by metal - semiconductor contacts, but also achieves a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of over 23%. In addition, this method is simple and scalable, completely avoiding the high - interface - recombination problem common in PERC technology, thereby increasing the open - circuit voltage (VOC) and obtaining the full - area back - surface - field effect of industrial - sized (275.54 cm²) solar cells.
