Abstract:We prove that Schlumprecht space $S$ is isomorphic to $(\sum_{k=1}^\infty \oplus \ell_infty ^{n_k})_S $ for any sequence of integers $(n_k)$. We also show that every complemented subspace of $S$ which has some subsymmetric basis, is isomorphic to $S$.

Abstract:We show that the Hilbert space with basis indexed by infinite permutations and the cohomology ring of the infinite flag variety can be seen as representations of the Heisenberg algebra, which are isomorphic using the back-stable Schubert polynomials. We give a model for infinite permutations as certain two dimensional fermions, generalizing the Maya diagram construction for partitions. Under this framework, the pipedream model for Schubert polynomials can be viewed as the Hamiltonian time evolution of the 2D fermions.

A note on the spaces of Eisenstein series on general congruence subgroups

Abstract:This article proposes a new approach to study the spectral Eisenstein series of weight $k$ on a congruence subgroup of $\text{SL}_2(\mathbb{Z})$ using Hecke's theory of Eisenstein series for the principal congruence subgroups. Our method provides a gateway to analytic and arithmetic properties of the spectral Eisenstein series using corresponding results for the principal congruence subgroup. We show that the specializations of the weight $k$ spectral Eisenstein series at $s = 0$ give rise to a basis for the space of Eisenstein series on a general congruence subgroup. A variant of this construction provides an algorithmically computable basis with algebraic Fourier coefficients for the same space. Our philosophy also yields an explicit basis parameterized by cusps for the space of Eisenstein series with nebentypus. We use this basis to generalize Hida's Eichler-Shimura isomorphism theorem for modular forms with nebentypus to almost all nebentypus characters and levels.

Complemented subspaces of Banach spaces $C(K\times L)$

Abstract:We prove that, for every compact spaces $K_1,K_2$ and compact group $G$, if both $K_1$ and $K_2$ map continuously onto $G$, then the Banach space $C(K_1 \times K_2)$ contains a complemented subspace isometric to the Banach space $C(G)$. Consequently, $C(K_1\times K_2)$ contains a complemented copy of $C([0,1])$ for every non-scattered $K_1,K_2$. Also, answering a question of Alspach and Galego, we get that $C(\beta\omega\times\beta\omega)$ contains a complemented copy of $C([0,1]^\kappa)$ for every cardinal number $1\le\kappa\le{\mathfrak c}$ and hence a complemented copy of $C(K)$ for every metric compact space $K$. On the other hand, for the pointwise topology, we show that $C_p(\beta\omega\times\beta\omega)$ contains no complemented copy of $C_p(2^\omega)$.

A Schur-Weyl duality analogue based on a commutative bilinear operation

Abstract:Schur-Weyl duality concerns the actions of $\text{GL}_{n}(\mathbb{C})$ and $S_{k}$ on tensor powers of the form $V^{\otimes k}$ for an $n$-dimensional vector space $V$. There are rich histories within representation theory, combinatorics, and statistical mechanics involving the study and use of diagram algebras, which arise through the restriction of the action of $\text{GL}_{n}(\mathbb{C})$ to subgroups of $\text{GL}_{n}(\mathbb{C})$. This leads us to consider further variants of Schur-Weyl duality, with the use of variants of the tensor space $V^{\otimes k}$. Instead of taking repeated tensor products of $V$, we make use of a freest commutative bilinear operation in place of $\otimes$, and this is motivated by an associated invariance property given by the action of $S_{k}$. By then taking the centralizer algebra with respect to the action of the group of permutation matrices in $\text{GL}_{n}(\mathbb{C})$, this gives rise to a diagram-like algebra spanned by a new class of combinatorial objects. We construct orbit-type bases for the centralizer algebras introduced in this paper, and we apply these bases to prove a combinatorial formula for the dimensions of our centralizer algebras.

Abstract:We provide a sufficient condition for the sum of a finite number of complemented subspaces of a Banach space to be complemented. Under this condition a formula for a projection onto the sum is given. We also show that the condition is sharp (in a certain sense). As applications, we get (1) sufficient conditions for the complementability of sums of marginal subspaces in $L^p$ and sums of tensor powers of subspaces in a tensor power of a Banach space and (2) quantitative results on stability of the complementability property of the sum of linearly independent subspaces.

Abstract:In this paper, we characterize complementable operators and provide more precise expressions for the Schur complement of these operators using a single Douglas solution. Abstract:We show that the dual to any subspace of $c_0(\Gamma)$ has the strongest possible quantitative version of the Schur property. Further, we establish relationship between the quantitative Schur property and quantitative versions of the Dunford-Pettis property. Finally, we apply these results to show, in particular, that any subspace of the space of compact operators on $\ell_p$ ($1<p<\infty$) with Dunford-Pettis property satisfies automatically both its quantitative versions.

Abstract:We prove that any normalized block sequence in a Schreier space $X_\xi$, of arbitrary order $\xi<\omega_1$, admits a subsequence equivalent to a subsequence of the canonical basis of some Schreier space. The analogous result is proved for dual spaces to Schreier spaces. Basing on these results, we examine the structure of strictly singular operators on Schreier spaces and show that there are $2^\mathfrak{c}$ many closed operator ideals on a Schreier space of any order, its dual and bidual space.

Abstract:Let $\Omega$ be the {\em superspace ring} of polynomial-valued differential forms on affine $n$-space. The natural action of the symmetric group $\mathfrak{S}_n$ on $n$-space induces an action of $\mathfrak{S}_n$ on $\Omega$. The {\em superspace coinvariant ring} is the quotient $SR$ of $\Omega$ by the ideal generated by $\mathfrak{S}_n$-invariants with vanishing constant term. We give the first explicit basis of $SR$, proving a conjecture of Sagan and Swanson. Our techniques use the theory of hyperplane arrangements. We relate $SR$ to instances of the Solomon-Terao algebras of Abe-Maeno-Murai-Numata and use exact sequences relating the derivation modules of certain `southwest closed' arrangements to obtain the desired basis of $SR$.

On the spherical partition algebra

Abstract:For $ k \in \mathbb{N}$ we introduce an idempotent subalgebra, the spherical partition algebra ${\mathcal{SP} }_{k}$, of the partition algebra ${\mathcal{P} }_{k}$, that we define using an embedding associated with the trivial representation of the symmetric group $\mathfrak{S}_k$. We determine a basis for ${\mathcal{SP} }_{k}$ and this provides a combinatorial interpretation of the dimension of $\mathcal{SP}_{k}$, involving bipartite partitions of $ k$. For $ t \in \mathbb{C} $ we consider the specialized algebra $\mathcal{SP}_{k}(t)$. For $ t = n \in \mathbb{N}$, we describe the structure of $\mathcal{SP}_{k}(n)$ by giving the permutation module decomposition of the $k$'th symmetric power of the defining module for the symmetric group algebra $ \mathbb{C} \mathfrak{S}_n $. In general, we show that $\mathcal{SP}_{k}(t)$ is quasi-hereditary over $ \mathbb{C}$ for all $ t \in \mathcal{C}$, except $ t=0$. We determine the decomposition numbers for $\mathcal{SP}_{k}(t)$ for every specialization $ t \in \mathbb{C} $ except $ t= 0 $, (which includes semisimple and non-semisimple cases). In particular we determine the structure of all indecomposable projective modules, and the indecomposable tilting modules.

Abstract:We give a new proof of the completeness of the space $\mathcal{O}_C$ by applying a criterion of compact regularity for the isomorphic sequence space $\lim_{k\rightarrow} (s\hat \otimes (\ell^\infty)_{-k})$. Along the way we show that the strong dual of any quasinormable Fréchet space is a compactly regular $\mathcal{LB}$-space. Finally, we prove that $\lim_{k\rightarrow}(E_k\hat \otimes_\iota F) = (\lim_{k\rightarrow} E_k) \hat \otimes_\iota F$ if the inductive limit $\lim_{k \rightarrow}(E_k \hat \otimes_\iota F)$ is compactly regular.

Abstract:We find conditions on a function space $\bf{L}$ that ensure that it behaves as an $L_p$-space in the sense that any unconditional basis of a complemented subspace of $\bf{L}$ either is equivalent to the unit vector system of $\ell_2$ or has a subbasis equivalent to a disjointly supported basic sequence. This dichotomy allows us to classify the symmetric basic sequences of $\bf{L}$. Several applications to Orlicz function spaces are provided.

Abstract:Let $K$ be a non-archimedean local field of residual characteristic $p\neq 2$. Let $G$ be a connected reductive group over $K$, let $\theta$ be an involution of $G$ over $K$, and let $H$ be the connected component of $\theta$-fixed subgroup of $G$ over $K$. By realizing the Steinberg representation of $G$ as the $G$-space of complex smooth harmonic cochains following the idea of Broussous--Courtès, we study its space of distinction by $H$ as a finite dimensional complex vector space. We give an upper bound of the dimension, and under certain conditions, we show that the upper bound is sharp by explicitly constructing a basis using the technique of Poincaré series. Finally, we apply our general theory to the case where $G$ is a general linear group and $H$ a special orthogonal subgroup, which leads to a complete classification result.

Abstract:We show that if $p>1$ every subspace of $\ell_p(\Gamma)$ is an $\ell_p$-sum of separable subspaces of $\ell_p$, and we provide examples of subspaces of $\ell_p(\Gamma)$ for $0<p\leq 1$ that are not even isomorphic to any $\ell_p$-sum of separable spaces, notably the kernel of any quotient map $\ell_p(\Gamma)\to L_1(2^{\Gamma})$ with $\Gamma$ uncountable. We involve the separable complementation property (SCP) and the separable extension property (SEP), showing that if $X$ is a Banach space of density character $\aleph_1$ with the SCP then the kernel of any quotient map $\ell_p(\Gamma)\to X$ is a complemented subspace of a space with the SCP and, consequently, has the SEP.

Abstract:Using the language of Seshadri stratifications we develop a geometrical interpretation of Lakshmibai-Seshadri-tableaux and their associated standard monomial bases. These tableaux are a generalization of Young-tableaux and De-Concini-tableaux to all Dynkin types. More precisely, we construct filtrations of multihomogeneous coordinate rings of Schubert varieties, such that the subquotients are one-dimensional and indexed by standard tableaux.

Abstract:We introduce an integral form U of the quantized enveloping algebra of sl_2. The algebra U is just large enough so that the quasi-R-matrix is contained in a completion of U\otimes U. We study several completions of the algebra U, and determine their centers. This study is motivated by a study of integrality properties of the quantum sl_2 invariants of links and integral homology spheres.

Abstract:Given a bounded selfadjoint operator W on a Krein space H and a closed subspace S of H, the Schur complement of W to S is defined under the hypothesis of weak complementability. A variational characterization of the Schur complement is given and the set of selfadjoint operators W admitting a Schur complement with these variational properties is shown to coincide with the set of S-weakly complementable selfadjoint operators.
