Abstract:We show that the Hilbert space with basis indexed by infinite permutations and the cohomology ring of the infinite flag variety can be seen as representations of the Heisenberg algebra, which are isomorphic using the back-stable Schubert polynomials. We give a model for infinite permutations as certain two dimensional fermions, generalizing the Maya diagram construction for partitions. Under this framework, the pipedream model for Schubert polynomials can be viewed as the Hamiltonian time evolution of the 2D fermions.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is to establish a deeper connection between Schubert calculus and Heisenberg algebra. Specifically, the author tries to generalize the boson - fermion correspondence from the Grassmannian to the full flag varieties, and achieves this goal by introducing back - stable Schubert polynomials. These polynomials correspond to Schubert classes in the infinite flag manifold and generate a ring called back - symmetric functions. The main contribution of the paper is to prove that these two spaces (the Hilbert space with an infinite permutation as a basis and the cohomology ring of the infinite flag manifold) can be regarded as representations of the Heisenberg algebra, and to establish an isomorphism between them through back - stable Schubert polynomials. ### Overview of the paper structure 1. **Introduction**: Briefly introduces the historical background of the boson - fermion correspondence and its applications in the theory of symmetric functions, especially the research of the Kyoto school on soliton solutions of the KP equation. 2. **Preliminaries**: Reviews the basic concepts of symmetric functions and Schubert calculus, including Young diagrams, Schur polynomials, Schubert polynomials, etc. 3. **Classical boson - fermion correspondence**: Describes in detail the classical boson - fermion correspondence, especially its application in Schur polynomials. 4. **Boson operators**: Defines boson operators acting on the infinite permutation space and establishes the relationship between these operators and the Heisenberg algebra. 5. **Two - dimensional fermions**: Introduces the concept of two - dimensional fermions and shows how to understand the pipedream model of Schubert polynomials through the evolution of these fermions. 6. **Theorem proof**: Proves in detail the main theorem, that is, the two spaces are isomorphic as representations of the Heisenberg algebra. 7. **Back - symmetric functions and generalized boson - fermion correspondence**: Introduces back - symmetric functions and their Heisenberg algebra action, and completes the commutative diagram mentioned in the paper. ### Main results - **Theorem 0.1**: Proves that the Hilbert space with an infinite permutation as a basis and the cohomology ring of the infinite flag manifold can both be regarded as faithful representations of the Heisenberg algebra, and establishes an isomorphism between them through back - stable Schubert polynomials. - **The action of the Hamiltonian**: Represents the Stanley symmetric function as the evolution result of the fermion state through the exponential mapping of the Hamiltonian. - **Two - dimensional fermion model**: Shows that the evolution of two - dimensional fermions can be simplified to the pipedream model of Schubert polynomials, thus providing a new understanding and calculation method. ### Conclusion By introducing back - stable Schubert polynomials and the two - dimensional fermion model, this paper successfully generalizes the boson - fermion correspondence from the Grassmannian to the full flag manifold, providing a new perspective and tool for the study of Schubert calculus.
