Abstract:The Leech lattice, $\Lambda_{24}$, is represented on the space of octonionic 3-vectors. It is built from two octonionic representations of $E_{8}$, and is reached via $\Lambda_{16}$. It is invariant under the octonion index cycling and doubling maps.

Abstract:We study the enumerative and analytic properties of some sequences constructed using tensor invariant theory. The octant sequences are constructed from the exceptional Lie group $G_2$ and the quadrant sequences from the special linear group $SL(3)$. In each case we show that the corresponding sequences are related by binomial transforms. The first three octant sequences and the first four quadrant sequences are listed in the On-Line Encyclopedia of Integer Sequences (OEIS). These sequences all have interpretations as enumerating two-dimensional lattice walks but for the octant sequences the boundary conditions are unconventional. These sequences are all P-recursive and we give the corresponding recurrence relations. In all cases the associated differential operators are of third order and have the remarkable property that they can be solved to give closed formulae for the ordinary generating functions in terms of classical Gaussian hypergeometric functions. Moreover, we show that the octant sequences and the quadrant sequences are related by the branching rules for the inclusion of $SL(3)$ in $G_2$.

$Sp_{2n}(F_{q^{2}})$-Invariants In Irreducible Unipotent Representations of $Sp_{4n}(F_{q})$

Abstract:We show that for any irreducible representation of $Sp_{4n}(F_{q})$, the subspace of all its $Sp_{2n}(F_{q^{2}})$-invariants is at most one-dimensional. In terms of Lusztig symbols, we give a complete list of irreducible unipotent representations of $Sp_{4n}(F_{q})$ which have a nonzero $Sp_{2n}(F_{q^{2}})$-invariant and, in particular, we prove that every irreducible unipotent cuspidal representation has a one-dimensional subspace of $Sp_{2n}(F_{q^{2}})$-invariants. As an application, we give an elementary proof of the fact that the unipotent cuspidal representation is defined over $Q$, which was proved by Lusztig.

Abstract:We show that Lubin-Tate spectra at the prime $2$ are Real oriented and Real Landweber exact. The proof is by application of the Goerss-Hopkins-Miller theorem to algebras with involution. For each height $n$, we compute the entire homotopy fixed point spectral sequence for $E_n$ with its $C_2$-action given by the formal inverse. We study, as the height varies, the Hurewicz images of the stable homotopy groups of spheres in the homotopy of these $C_2$-fixed points.

Abstract:In 1933, Karol Borsuk asked whether each bounded set in the $n$-dimensional Euclidean space can be divided into $n$+1 parts of smaller diameter. Because it would not make sense otherwise, one usually assumes that he just forgot to require that the whole set contains at least two points. The hypothesis that the answer to that question is positive became famous under the name \emph{Borsuk's conjecture}. Counterexamples are known for any $n\ge 64$, since 2013. Let $\Lambda$ be the (original, unscaled) Leech lattice, a now very well-known infinite discrete vector set in the 24-dimensional Euclidean space. The smallest norm of nonzero vectors in $\Lambda$ is $\sqrt{32}$. Let $M$ be the set of the 196560 vectors in $\Lambda$ having this norm. For each $x \in M$, $-x$ is in $M$. Let $H$ be the set of all subsets of $M$ that for each $x$ in $M$ contain either $x$ or $-x$. Each element of $H$ has the same diameter $d = \sqrt{96}$. For dimensions $n<24$ one can analogously construct respective $M_n$ and $H_n$ from laminated $n$-dimensional sublattices $\Lambda_n$ of $\Lambda$. For uniformity, let $\Lambda_{24}=\Lambda$, $M_{24} = M$ and $H_{24} = H$. If $M_n$ is divisible into at most $n+1$ parts of diameter below $d$ then this applies to all elements of $H_n$, too. I have checked that this is the case for all $n \le 21$. For $n$ from 22 to 24, the minimum number of parts of diameter below $d$ that I was able to divide $M_n$ into are 25, 29 and 35, resp. The source package of this article contains a data file encoding an element of $H_{24}=H$ that I can not divide into less than 30 parts of smaller diameter.

Abstract:Lickorish's method for constructing topological invariants of 3 - manifolds is generalized to the quantum supergroup setting. An invariant is obtained by applying this method to the Kauffman polynomial arising from the vector representation of Uq(osp(1|2)). A transparent proof is also given showing that this invariant is equivalent to the Uq(osp(1|2)) invariant obtained in an earlier publication.
From Young's Lattice to Coinvariants

Abstract:Inspired by Vershik and Okounkov's inductive and Lie-theoretic approach to the representation theory of the symmetric group, we extend their point of view to reducible $S_n$-modules. Using induced representations along Young's lattice, we define an orthonormal weight basis for the regular representation of $S_n$ and use its rigidity to exhibit dualities between the left and right actions of $S_n$ and between restriction and induction of representations. We also show our weight basis is equivalent to the basis of matrix units corresponding to Young's seminormal form. We then realize $\mathbb{C}[S_n]$ in a subspace of the polynomial ring $R[z_1, \ldots , z_n]$. The induced weight decomposition allows us to map this subspace of polynomials to the ring of coinvariants, similar to the work of Ariki, Terasoma, and Yamada on higher Specht polynomials but perhaps a bit more intrinsic as we work in terms of an orthonormal basis. Our construction makes explicit the connection between the charge statistic on standard tableaux (which corresponds to degree in the coinvariant ring) and the action of adjacent transpositions on weight vectors in the seminormal representation of $S_n$. It also exposes the inductive structure of $S_n$ hidden in the coinvariant ring. All our constructions are elementary, and we are curious about their geometric meaning.

Ocneanu Algebra of Seams: Critical Unitary $E_6$ RSOS Lattice Model

Abstract:We consider the $A$ series and exceptional $E_6$ Restricted Solid-On-Solid lattice models as prototypical examples of the critical Yang-Baxter integrable two-dimensional $A$-$D$-$E$ lattice models. We focus on type I theories which are characterized by the existence of an extended chiral symmetry in the continuum scaling limit. Starting with the commuting family of column transfer matrices on the torus, we build matrix representations of the Ocneanu graph fusion algebra as integrable seams for arbitrary finite-size lattices with the structure constants specified by Petkova and Zuber. This commutative seam algebra contains the Verlinde, fused adjacency and graph fusion algebras as subalgebras. Our matrix representation of the Ocneanu algebra encapsulates the quantum symmetry of the commuting family of transfer matrices. In the continuum scaling limit, the integrable seams realize the topological defects of the associated conformal field theory and the known toric matrices encode the twisted conformal partition functions.

Subalgebras of Octonion Algebras

Abstract:For an arbitrary octonion algebra, we determine all subalgebras. It turns out that every subalgebra of dimension less than four is associative, while every subalgebra of dimension greater than four is not associative. In any split octonion algebra, there are both associative and non-associative subalgebras of dimension four. Except for one-dimensional subalgebras spanned by idempotents, any two isomorphic subalgebras are in the same orbit under automorphisms.

Abstract:Within the relativistic PWIA, spin observables have been recalculated for quasielastic ($\vec p,\vec p '$) and ($\vec p,\vec n$) reactions on a $^{40}$Ca target. The incident proton energy ranges from 135 to 300 MeV while the transferred momentum is kept fixed at 1.97 fm^{-1}. In the present calculations, new Horowitz-Love--Franey relativistic NN amplitudes have been generated in order to yield improved and more quantitative spin observable values than before. The sensitivities of the various spin observables to the NN interaction parameters, such as (1) the presence of the surrounding nuclear medium, (2) a pseudoscalar versus a pseudovector interaction term, and (3) exchange effects, point to spin observables which should preferably be measured at certain laboratory proton energies, in order to test current nuclear models. This study also shows that nuclear medium effects become more important at lower proton energies ($\leq$ 200 MeV). A comparison to the limited available data indicates that the relativistic parametrization of the NN scattering amplitudes in terms of only the five Fermi invariants (the SVPAT form) is questionable.

Abstract:Formulas previously presented for the Casson-Walker invariant are generalized to Lescop's extension. These formulas in terms of linking numbers and surgery coefficients compute the change in Lescop's invariant under crossing changes in a framed link presenting a 3-manifold. This leads us to revisit an old formula for a coefficient of the Conway polynomial. Finally we compute Lescop's invariant of several lens spaces and deduce some values for Dedekind sums.

Abstract:We discuss the octonionic regular functions and the octonionic regular operator on the octonionic Heisenberg group. This is the octonionic version of CR function theory in the theory of several complex variables and regular function theory on the quaternionic Heisenberg group. By identifying the octonionic algebra with $\mathbb{R }^{8}$, we can write the octonionic regular operator and the associated Laplacian operator as real $(8\times 8)$-matrix differential operators. Then we use the group Fourier transform on the octonionic Heisenberg group to analyze the associated Laplacian operator and to construct its kernel. This kernel is exactly the Szegö kernel of the orthonormal projection from the space of $L^{2}$ functions to the space of $L^{2}$ regular functions on the octonionic Heisenberg group.
Rationality of Lorentzian Lattice CFTs And The Associated Modular Tensor Category

Abstract:We classify the irreducible modules of a rational Lorentzian lattice vertex operator algebra (LLVOA) based on an even, self-dual Lorentzian lattice $\Lambda\subset\mathbb{R}^{m,n}$ of signature $(m,n)$. We show that the set of isomorphism classes of irreducible modules of the LLVOA are in one-to-one correspondence with the equivalence classes $\Lambda_0^\circ/\Lambda_0$ for a certain subset $\Lambda_0^\circ\subset\mathbb{R}^{m,n}$ and a full rank sublattice $\Lambda_0\subset\Lambda$. We also classify the intertwining operators between the modules and calculate the fusion rules. We then describe the standard construction of modular tensor category (MTC) associated to rational LLCFTs. We explicitly construct the modular data and braiding and fusing matrices for the MTC. As a concrete example, we show that the LLCFT based on a certain even, self-dual Lorentzian lattice of signature $(m, n)$, with $m$ even, realizes the $D(m \bmod 8)$ level 1 Kac-Moody MTC.

Abstract:We present a Veronese formulation of the octonionic and split-octonionic projective and hyperbolic planes. This formulation of the incidence planes highlights the relationship between the Veronese vectors and the rank-1 elements of the Albert algebras over octonions and split-octonions, yielding to a clear formulation of the relationship with the real forms of the Lie groups arising as collineation groups of these planes. The Veronesean representation also provides a novel and minimal construction of the same octonionic and split-octonionic planes, by exploiting two symmetric composition algebras: the Okubo algebra and the paraoctonionic algebra. Besides the intrinsic mathematical relevance of this construction of the real forms of the Cayley-Moufang plane, we expect this approach to have implications in all mathematical physics related with exceptional Lie Groups of type $G_{2},F_{4}$ and $E_{6}$.

Abstract:The Leech lattice is a magical structure in twentyfour-dimensional Euclidean space E24 that was inspired by Golay’s error-correcting code G24. The magic of the Leech lattice led Conway to the discovery of the three sporadic simple groups: Co1, Co2, and Co3. Also magically, the Leech lattice provides the optimal kissing configuration for the 24-dimensional unit ball as well as the densest lattice ball packing in E24. Data in digital systems are typically stored, transmitted, and processed in binary codewords. If a single codeword is in error, the message is garbled or the computation spoiled. Starting in the 1940s, scientists searched for coding systems that could detect and even correct errors.
