Abstract:Let H be a Hopf algebra over a base field. If H has an ℕ-filtration such that the associated graded ring is connected graded noetherian and has enough normal elements, then H is Gorenstein. This gives a partial solution to a question of Brown and Brown-Goodearl. As a consequence, every quotient Hopf algebra of a generic quantized coordinate ring of a connected semisimple Lie group is Auslander-Gorenstein and Cohen-Macaulay. The last statement answers a question of Goodearl-Zhang.

Abstract:We develop a general theory of Hopf image of a Hopf algebra representation, with the associated concept of inner faithful representation, modelled on the notion of faithful representation of a discrete group. We study several examples, including group algebras, enveloping algebras of Lie algebras, pointed Hopf algebras, function algebras, twistings and cotwistings, and we present a Tannaka duality formulation of the notion of Hopf image.

Abstract:We study the electronic properties of the generalized Fibonacci lattices generated by the inflation rule (A, B) --> (AB(n), A) with n > 1. A unified real-space renormalization-group scheme is presented for calculating the exact local Green's function at any given site. Analysis suggests that there are extended states in these lattices. Furthermore, the appearance of the extended states and the smoothness of the local density of states depends on the system parameters, implying that these exists a state transition phenomenon similar to that of the incommensurate Harper's model.

Abstract:Electronic properties of the generalized Fibonacci lattices are studied using the dynamical system technique, for which the off-diagonal tight-binding model is employed. The matrix and trace maps are obtained and investigated in a unified way. It is found that the energy spectra are Cantor-like and the wavefunctions are critical at many energies. For some systems, it is also shown that there are extended and localized wavefunctions. In addition, according to the degree of spatial extension or localization, two other types of wavefunctions are further distinguished, of which one has the tendency to be extended and the other has the tendency to be localized.

Abstract:This paper gives an explicit isomorphic mapping from the 240 real $\mathbb{R}^{8}$ roots of the $E_8$ Gosset $4_{21}$ 8-polytope to two golden ratio scaled copies of the 120 root $H_4$ 600-cell quaternion 4-polytope using a traceless 8$\times$8 rotation matrix $\mathbb{U}$ with palindromic characteristic polynomial coefficients and a unitary form $e^{\text {i$\mathbb{U}$}}$. It also shows the inverse map from a single $H_4$ 600-cell to $E_8$ using a 4D$\hookrightarrow$8D chiral left$\leftrightarrow$right mapping function, $ \varphi$ scaling, and $\mathbb{U}^{-1}$. This approach shows that there are actually four copies of each 600-cell living within $E_8$ in the form of chiral $H_{4L}$$\oplus$$\varphi H_{4L}$$\oplus$$H_{4R}$$\oplus$$\varphi H_{4R}$ roots. In addition, it demonstrates a quaternion Weyl orbit construction of $H_4$-based 4-polytopes that provides an explicit mapping between $E_8$ and four copies of the tri-rectified Coxeter-Dynkin diagram of $H_4$, namely the 120-cell of order 600. Taking advantage of this property promises to open the door to as yet unexplored $E_8$-based Grand Unified Theories or GUTs.

Geometry of the fixed points loci and discretization of Springer fibers in classical types

Abstract:Consider a simple algebraic group $G$ of classical type and its Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$. Let $(e,h,f) \subset \mathfrak{g}$ be an $\mathfrak{sl}_2$-triple and $Q_e= C_G(e,h,f)$. The torus $T_e$ that comes from the $\mathfrak{sl}_2$-triple acts on the Springer fiber $\mathcal{B}_e$. Let $\mathcal{B}_e^{gr}$ denote the fixed point loci of $\mathcal{B}_e$ under this torus action. Our main geometric result is that when the partition of $e$ has up to $4$ rows, the derived category $D^b(\mathcal{B}_e^{gr})$ admits a complete exceptional collection that is compatible with the $Q_e$-action. The objects in this collection give us a finite set $Y_e$ that is naturally equipped with a $Q_e$-centrally extended structure. We prove that the set $Y_e$ constructed in this way coincides with a finite set that has appeared in various contexts in representation theory. For example, a direct summand $J_c$ of the asymptotic Hecke algebra is isomorphic to $K_0(Sh^{Q_e}(Y_e\times Y_e)$. The left cells in the two-sided cell $c$ corresponding to the adjoint orbit of $e$ are in bijection with the $Q_e$-orbits in $Y_e$. Our main numerical result is an algorithm to compute the multiplicities of the $Q_e$-centrally extended orbits that appear in $Y_e$.

Abstract:By constructing concrete complex-oriented maps we show that the eight-fold of the generator of the third integral cohomology of the spin groups Spin(7) and Spin(8) is in the image of the Thom morphism from complex cobordism to singular cohomology, while the generator itself is not in the image. We thereby give a geometric construction for a nontrivial class in the kernel of the differential Thom morphism of Hopkins and Singer for the Lie groups Spin(7) and Spin(8). The construction exploits the special symmetries of the octonions.

Abstract:Generalized permutahedra are a family of polytopes with a rich combinatorial structure and strong connections to optimization. We prove that they are the universal family of polyhedra with a certain Hopf algebraic structure. Their antipode is remarkably simple: the antipode of a polytope is the alternating sum of its faces. Our construction provides a unifying framework to organize numerous combinatorial structures, including graphs, matroids, posets, set partitions, linear graphs, hypergraphs, simplicial complexes, building sets, and simple graphs. We highlight three applications: 1. We obtain uniform proofs of numerous old and new results about the Hopf algebraic and combinatorial structures of these families. In particular, we give the optimal formula for the antipode of graphs, posets, matroids, hypergraphs, and building sets, and we answer questions of Humpert--Martin and Rota. 2. We show that the reciprocity theorems of Stanley and Billera--Jia--Reiner on chromatic polynomials of graphs, order polynomials of posets, and BJR-polynomials of matroids are instances of the same reciprocity theorem for generalized permutahedra. 3. We explain why the formulas for the multiplicative and compositional inverses of power series are governed by the face structure of permutahedra and associahedra, respectively, answering a question of Loday. Along the way, we offer a combinatorial user's guide to Hopf monoids.

Abstract:We present the lattice structure of Feynman diagram renormalization in physical QFTs from the viewpoint of Dyson-Schwinger-Equations and the core Hopf algebra of Feynman diagrams. The lattice structure encapsules the nestedness of diagrams. This structure can be used to give explicit expressions for the counterterms in zero-dimensional QFTs using the lattice-Moebius function. Different applications for the tadpole-free quotient, in which all appearing elements correspond to semimodular lattices, are discussed.

Abstract:The Littelmann path moel gives a realization of the crystals of integrable representations of symmetrizable Kac-Moody Lie algebras. Recent work of Gaussent-Littelmann and others has demonstrated a connection between this model and the geometry of the loop Grassmannian. The alcove walk model is a version of the path model which is intimately connected to the combinatorics of the affine Hecke algebra. In this paper we define a refined alcove walk model which encodes the points of the affine flag variety. We show that this combinatorial indexing naturally indexes the "cells" in generalized Mirkovic-Vilonen intersections.

Abstract:Abstract We conduct a systematic study of the Ehrhart theory of certain slices of rectangular prisms. Our polytopes are generalizations of the hypersimplex and are contained in the larger class of polypositroids introduced by Lam and Postnikov; moreover, they coincide with polymatroids satisfying the strong exchange property up to an affinity. We give a combinatorial formula for all the Ehrhart coefficients in terms of the number of weighted permutations satisfying certain compatibility properties. This result proves that all these polytopes are Ehrhart positive. Additionally, via an extension of a result by Early and Kim, we give a combinatorial interpretation for all the coefficients of the $h^*$ -polynomial. All of our results provide a combinatorial understanding of the Hilbert functions and the h -vectors of all algebras of Veronese type, a problem that had remained elusive up to this point. A variety of applications are discussed, including expressions for the volumes of these slices of prisms as weighted combinations of Eulerian numbers; some extensions of Laplace’s result on the combinatorial interpretation of the volume of the hypersimplex; a multivariate generalization of the flag Eulerian numbers and refinements; and a short proof of the Ehrhart positivity of the independence polytope of all uniform matroids.

Exceptional Lattice Green's Functions

Abstract:The three exceptional lattices, $E_6$, $E_7$, and $E_8$, have attracted much attention due to their anomalously dense and symmetric structures which are of critical importance in modern theoretical physics. Here, we study the electronic band structure of a single spinless quantum particle hopping between their nearest-neighbor lattice points in the tight-binding limit. Using Markov chain Monte Carlo methods, we numerically sample their lattice Green's functions, densities of states, and random walk return probabilities. We find and tabulate a plethora of Van Hove singularities in the densities of states, including degenerate ones in $E_6$ and $E_7$. Finally, we use brute force enumeration to count the number of distinct closed walks of length up to eight, which gives the first eight moments of the densities of states.
Non-Compact Hopf Maps and Fuzzy Ultra-Hyperboloids

Abstract:Fuzzy hyperboloids naturally emerge in the geometries of D-branes, twistor theory, and higher spin theories. In this work, we perform a systematic study of higher dimensional fuzzy hyperboloids (ultra-hyperboloids) based on non-compact Hopf maps. Two types of non-compact Hopf maps; split-type and hybrid-type, are introduced from the cousins of division algebras. We construct arbitrary even-dimensional fuzzy ultra-hyperboloids by applying the Schwinger operator formalism and indefinite Clifford algebras. It is shown that fuzzy hyperboloids, $H_F^{2p,2q}$, are represented by the coset, $H_F^{2p,2q}\simeq SO(2p,2q+1)/U(p,q)$, and exhibit two types of generalized dimensional hierarchy; hyperbolic-type (for $q\neq 0$) and hybrid-type (for $q=0$). Fuzzy hyperboloids can be expressed as fibre-bundle of fuzzy fibre over hyperbolic basemanifold. Such bundle structure of fuzzy hyperboloid gives rise to non-compact monopole gauge field. Physical realization of fuzzy hyperboloids is argued in the context of lowest Landau level physics.

Abstract:We establish several foundational results regarding the Grothendieck-Springer affine fibration. More precisely, we prove some constructibility results on the affine Grothendieck-Springer sheaf and its coinvariants, enrich it with a group of symmetries, analog to the situation of Hitchin fibration, prove some perversity statements once we take some derived coinvariants and construct some specialization morphisms for the homology of affine Springer fibers. Along the way, we prove some homotopy result on l-adic complexes that can also be applied to Hitchin fibration.

Abstract:We describe a bigraded cocommutative Hopf algebra structure on the weight zero compactly supported rational cohomology of the moduli space of principally polarized abelian varieties. By relating the primitives for the coproduct to graph cohomology, we deduce that $\dim H^{2g+k}_c(\mathcal{A}_g)$ grows at least exponentially with $g$ for $k = 0$ and for all but finitely many positive integers $k$. Our proof relies on a new result of independent interest; we use a filtered variant of the Waldhausen construction to show that Quillen's spectral sequence abutting to the cohomology of $BK(\mathbb{Z})$ is a spectral sequence of Hopf algebras. From the same construction, we also deduce that $\dim H^{\binom{n}{2} - n - k}(\mathrm{SL}_n(\mathbb{Z}))$ grows at least exponentially with $n$, for $k = -1$ and for all but finitely many non-negative integers $k$.

Abstract:This paper is part of a series that describes the Fibonacci icosagrid quasicrystal (FIG) and its relation to the E8 root lattice. The FIG was originally constructed to represent the intersection points of an icosahedrally symmetric collection of planar grids in three dimensions, with the grid spacing of each following a Fibonacci chain. It was found to be closely related to a five-fold compound of 3D sections taken from the 4D Elser–Sloane quasicrystal (ESQC), which is derived via a cut-and-project process from E8. More recently, a direct cut-and-project from E8 has been found which yields the FIG (presented in another paper of this series). The present paper focuses not on the full quasicrystal, but on the relationship between the root polytope of E8 (Gosset's 421 polytope) and the core polyhedron generated in the FIG, a compound of 20 tetrahedra referred to simply as a 20-Group. In particular, the H3 symmetry of the FIG can be seen as a five-fold or "golden" composition of tetrahedral symmetry (referring to the characteristic appearance of the golden ratio). This is shown to mirror a connection between tetrahedral and five-fold symmetries present in the 421. Indeed, the rotations that connect tetrahedra contained within the 421 are shown to induce, in a certain natural way, the tetrahedron orientations in the 20-Group.

Abstract:Given a lattice polytope $P$ and a prime $p$, we define a function from the set of primitive symplectic $p$-adic lattices to the rationals that extracts the $\ell$th coefficient of the Ehrhart polynomial of $P$ relative to the given lattice. Inspired by work of Gunnells and Rodriguez-Villegas in type $\mathsf{A}$, we show that these functions are eigenfunctions of a suitably defined action of the spherical symplectic Hecke algebra. Although they depend significantly on the polytope $P$, their eigenvalues are independent of $P$ and expressed as polynomials in $p$. We define local zeta functions that enumerate the values of these Hecke eigenfunctions on the vertices of the affine Bruhat--Tits buildings associated with $p$-adic symplectic groups. We compute these zeta functions by enumerating $p$-adic lattices by their elementary divisors and, simultaneously, one Hermite parameter. We report on a general functional equation satisfied by these local zeta functions, confirming a conjecture of Vankov.
