Abstract:In this paper, the authors make use of certain analytical techniques for nonlinear algebraic equation systems in order to give another refinement of the Pólya–Szegö inequality in a triangle, which is associated with one of Chen’s theorems (see Chen (1993) [12] and Chen (2000) [13]). Abstract:In the article we present necessary and sufficient conditions for a function involving the logarithm of the gamma function to be completely monotonic and apply these results to bound the gamma function $\Gamma(x)$, the $n$-th harmonic number $\sum_{k=1}^n\frac1k$, and the factorial $n!$.

Abstract:In 1956 Marguerite Frank and Paul Wolfe proved that a quadratic function which is bounded below on a polyhedron $P$ attains its infimum on $P$. In this work we search for larger classes of sets $F$ with this Frank-and-Wolfe property. We establish the existence of non-polyhedral Frank-and-Wolfe sets, obtain internal characterizations by way of asymptotic properties, and investigate stability of the Frank-and-Wolfe class under various operations.

The new method overcomes the shortcomings of previous studies where a method is only good at a particular region. Abstract:Abstract Using Jensen's inequality and integration by parts, some tight upper bounds are derived on the Gaussian Q‐function. The tightness of the bounds obtained by Jensen's inequality can be improved by increasing the number of exponential terms, and one of them is invertible. A piece‐wise upper bound is obtained and its application in the analysis of the symbol error probability of various modulation schemes in different channel models is shown.

Abstract:The Hasse–Weil bound is a deep result in mathematics and has found wide applications in mathematics, theoretical computer science, information theory etc. In general, the bound is tight and cannot be improved. However, for some special families of curves the bound could be improved substantially. In this paper, we focus on the Hasse–Weil bound for the curve defined by yp−y=f(x) over the finite field Fq, where p is the characteristic of Fq. In 1993, Moreno–Moreno [7] gave an improvement to the Hasse–Weil bound for this family of curves. Recently, Kaufman and Lovett [4, FOCS2011] showed that the Hasse–Weil bound can be improved for this family of curves with f(x)=g(x)+h(x), where g(x) is a polynomial of degree ≪q and h(x) is a sparse polynomial of arbitrary degree but bounded weight degree. The other recent improvement by Rojas-Leon and Wan [9, Math. Ann. 2011] shows that an extra p can be removed for this family of curves if p is very large compared with polynomial degree of f(x) and logp⁡q.
