Abstract:Texture evolution and grain rotation behaviors of an equiatomic CoCrNi medium entropy alloy were studied by using an electron backscatter diffraction via the tensile testing interrupted at different strains. Dislocation slip was found to dominate the entire deformation process, resulting in the increase of dislocation density and micro-strain with continuous straining. The initial near-random distributed annealing texture eventually stabilizes at orientations of {111} planes, which parallels to the rolling direction. Detailed analyses on the orientation evolvement reveal that the grain rotation paths are [213]→[212]→[111] from macro-scale texture average, and [314]→[213]→[112]→[111] for micro-scale individual grains. The decrease of average grain boundary orientation derived from dislocation accumulation promotes lattice rotation in the region close to grain boundaries. The dislocation density decreases gradually from the boundary to grain interior, leading to a constant work hardening ability of individual coarse grains with a dislocation-free region in the center. These in-depth analyses combining texture evolutions and deformation mechanisms could provide reliable guidance and effective data support for the designation of high-end engineering materials and failure analysis.
