Abstract:Arsenious and sulphur-bearing micro-disseminated gold ore is a kind of typical refractory Carlin-Type. The gold in Carlin-Type gold ore grains is distributed finely, existing as invisible or submicroscopic gold, encapsulated in arsenopyrite and pyrite. The technical difficulty of treatment Carlin-Type gold ore lies in how to release the fine gold wrapped in pyrite and arsenopyrite. In this study, the oxidation roasting pre-treatment technique was used to treat the Carlin-Type gold ore. This included a two-stage roasting process: the arsenic was removed in first roasting process, and the sulphur was removed in second roasting process. The thermodynamic of roasting process was analyzed, and the mineral phase evolution of the roasting process was investigated by using XRD, SEM and EDS. Finally, a central composite experimental design was used to investigate the relationship between the independent (the second stage roasting temperature, sodium cyanide dosage, and leaching time) variables and the responses (leaching efficiency), with possible interactions between the independent variables and their effects on the leaching efficiency. The results suggest that for the first roasting temperature at 550 °C, and the second roasting at temperature 700 °C with air flow 2.5 L/min, the sodium cyanide dosage is 1.75 kg/t and leaching time is 27 h, a good leaching efficiency is obtained with 83.85%.

Abstract:According to the refractory lead-zinc ore properties with high pyrite, the experimental studies were conducted on floatation reagent conditions and closed circuit tests for comprehensive recovering of all types useful minerals. In comparison to the test results of different process flowsheets and different types of flotation reagents, adopting prior flotation lead (Pb)—Zn selective flotation (reagent removal and regrinding of rough concentrate)—S-selective flotation with Zn-tailings. The closed circuit tests were achieved: the grade of lead concentrate was 50.55% with a recovery of 92.25%; The grade of zinc concentrate was 40.12% with a recovery of 85.82%; The grade of sulfur was 48.58% with a recovery of 56.59%; The tailings grades of lead, zinc and sulfur were 0.27%, 0.31%, 3.90% respectively.

Abstract:The resource utilization of cyanide tailings has significant environmental and economic benefits. The efficient recovery of gold from low-grade cyanide tailings containing 1.71 g/t Au was performed by a chlorination roasting–flotation process. The effects of roasting temperature, calcium chloride, internal coke, external coke, copper sulfide concentrate, and kaolin on the recovery rate of concentrate, gold grade, and sorting efficiency were investigated. The optimized process parameters were as follows: 16 wt% calcium chloride dihydrate, 6 wt% internal carbon, 1 wt% external carbon, 9 wt% copper sulfide concentrate, 2 wt% kaolin, and roasting temperature of 730 °C. The sorting rate, gold grade, and recovery rate of gold concentrate can reach 88.48%, 33.46 g/t, and 76.7%, respectively, and the gold grade of tailings was as low as 0.17 g/t. In the matte phase, gold can be enriched in the form of gold grains. Therefore, through chlorination roasting, the trapped gold can be released and deposited on the surface of the matte phase due to the transformation from hematite to magnetite. The gold-deposited metal sulfide can be effectively recycled through flotation. These results have potential guiding significance for the efficient recovery of gold from cyanide tailings.

Study on Flotation of a Refractory Copper-zinc Polymetallic Sulfide Ore

Abstract:A refractory copper-zinc polymetallic sulfide ore in China has the characteristics of close symbiosis,high content of secondary copper sulfide,making the separation of copper and zinc difficult.According to this characteristics,adopting the combination of T9 and ZnSO4 as the inhibitor of zinc and Z-80 with strong selection and good selectivity as collector of copper,selective flotation experiment of inhibiting zinc and flotating copper was conducted,realizing the separation of copper and zinc.Through closed-circuit experiment the copper concentrate with the grade of 30.08% and the recovery of 92.98% and the zinc concentrate with the grade of 52.85% and the recovery of 84.89% were obtained respectively.The separation index is satisfactory.

Abstract:Gold tailings are secondary resources, however, a suitable method to extract the remaining gold has not yet been found. Thus, this study investigated that a gold tailings was pretreated with ammonium bifluoride, which promoted recovery of the remaining gold from the tailings. Ammonium bifluoride affecting the leaching effect may be due to the synergistic effect of fluorine and hydrogen ions. The mechanism was researched with the help of scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDS), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analyses. The results indicated that ammonium bifluoride interacted with the silica-bearing mineral in the tailings, which made the surface of the tailings become rougher and more cracks, and thus provided some channels for leaching reagent and exposed the occluded gold, largely facilitating gold dissolution. The preferable pre-treatment conditions were shown as NH4HF2 concentration = 0.7 mol/L, liquid to solid ratio = 5, the temperature = 25 °C, and the time = 4 h. The gold extraction efficiency increased by 48.45 % under the optimized pre-treatment conditions. Additionally, ammonium bifluoride proved to be an environmentally friendly, efficient, and low-costed pre-treatment reagent, being well-suited for promoting gold extraction from gold tailings.

Abstract:Currently, in the development of the raw materials base of the gold mining industry, there is a tendency to reduce the quality of the initial mineral raw materials due to the depletion of reserves of rich gold-bearing ores. The article discusses the technology of extraction of refractory gold-bearing concentrates based on low-temperature leaching of pyrite concentrate. A decrease in the parameters of the autoclave oxidation of sulfide minerals, such as pyrite and arsenopyrite, leads to the incomplete extraction of gold into the solution and, consequently, its losses during subsequent cyanidation. As a possible option for a more complete extraction of gold using low-temperature oxidation technology, a method of flotation separation of elemental sulfur from leaching cakes is proposed. According to the basic process flow chart, the flotation process designed for gold extraction is carried out after autoclave oxidation, but before cyanidation. A series of experiments were carried out with varying reagent conditions and the dependence of gold losses on the extraction of elemental sulfur in the flotation tailings was established. As determining factors, pH and solid content in the initial pulp were considered. The paper justifies the separation of elemental sulfur from autoclave cake to enriched sulfur concentrate. The cake flotation modes after autoclave oxidative leaching of pyrite concentrate are investigated. The distribution of elemental sulfur and gold by flotation products makes it possible to conduct the tailings cyanidation process with acceptable indicators.

Sustainable Development of Mountain Territories

Abstract:At the present stage of development of the mineral resource base of precious metals, the wider involvement of refractory ores and technogenic products in the mineral processing is playing a very important role. It is due to these types of mineral resources the main Russian and foreign companies plan to get the increase in the production of gold and other precious metals. Refractory ores are characterized by low content and uneven distribution of valuable components, emulsion dissemination of gold, complex material composition, flotation active silicate and carbonaceous rock components. The main technologies for their processing include combined schemes that provide intensive preliminary preparation of ore, fine and ultrafine grinding. Creation of effective reagents for flotation of fine classes of noble metals, selective depression of gold-free sulfides, like pyrite, pyrrhotite, arsenopyrite, and rock minerals is one of the recognized innovative solutions for intensifying the enrichment process of this type of raw material. The studies performed at IPKON RAS in the framework of the scientific school of Academician V.A. Chanturiya helped to develop and substantiate the novel selective reagents-collectors of dithiocarbamate type (DEDTCm, OPDTC, DBDTC, MDTC) and herbal modifiers that possess complexing properties in relation to noble metals and provide an increase in the recovery of valuable components of gold by 5-7%. A set of analytical methods - scanning electron (LEO 1420VP, Carl Zeiss) and laser microscopy (KEYNCE VK-9700, Shimadzu), X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy (ARL ADVANT’X), ICP –MS (Agilent 725 ICP-OES, Agilent Technologies), X-ray diffractometry (DRON-2.0, XRD 7000, Shimadzu), potentiometry, titrimetric analysis, methods of mathematical statistics helped to study the adsorption layer of the reagents on natural minerals and model sulfides with micro- and nanosized gold. Using an original technique for quantitative assessment of the reagent coating by image analysis (SLM), the surface area of the mineral occupied by the reagent was calculated. A method for selective flotation of gold-containing sulfides using OPDTC and oak bark extract has been developed and tested in the separation of the collective gold-arsenic concentrate of the Olympiada deposit. It showed the possibility of obtaining a gold-pyrite concentrate with an arsenic content of less than 2%. The prospect of using plant modifiers for gold recovery during flotation of complex ores has been substantiated.

Abstract:This article takes the flotation tailings of a high sulfur lead-zinc mine in Inner Mongolia as the research object. XRD and BPMA automatic process mineralogical analysis systems are used to analyze the mineral composition of the tailings, and experimental research is conducted on the comprehensive recovery of pyrite through activated flotation. The results showed that using concentrated sulfuric acid as an activator, ethyl xanthate and isoamyl xanthate as a combination collector, and adopting a flotation process of "one coarse, one sweep, and two fine", a concentrate product with a yield of 9.31% and a sulfur grade of 37.78% can be obtained, and the sulfur recovery rate in the concentrate can reach 77.13%; The comprehensive recovery and utilization of sulfur in the original flotation tailings have been achieved.

Abstract:The properties of gold adsorption and desorption of R-519 resin in hydrochloric acid solution were studied by static method.The study results indicate that the gold adsorption process of this resin accords with Boyd liquid film diffusion mode and the adsorption rate decreases with the increase of hydrochloric acid concentration.The adsorption equilibrium obeys Freundish adsorption isothermal equation and the higher the temperature,the more beneficial it will be to the adsorption.Acidic thiourea has a good effect when used as an eluting reagent.

Abstract:Integrated with ore properties,the effects of grinding fineness,collector agents and process flowsheet on the flotation of a copper-lead-zinc sulfide ore in Xizang were investigated,through which the processing parameters were determined.Adopting a closed-circuit flowsheet including one stage of roughing,one stage of cleaning and two stages of scavenging,with a grinding fineness of-0.074 mm range as around 67.00%,and using a combined collector of ethyl xanthate and diethyldithiocarbamate,a bulk concentrate with copper,lead and zinc grade of 13.81%,16.74% and 22.41% respectively,and the corresponding recovery of 95.47%,93.85% and 94.04%,respectively,was prepared.

Abstract:This study was conducted on a micro-fine refractory gold concentrate with high levels of arsenic and sulfur, and main focus on being the roasting pre-treatment conditions and leaching conditions of the gold concentrate. Additionally, the potential reason and reaction mechanism of the roasting process were discussed, utilizing scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDS), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), and X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (XRF). Satisfactory results were obtained when the gold concentrate was roasted for 2 h at 500 °C followed by 3 h at 650 °C. The reason responsible for rapid gold leaching from this type of ore lied in that the coating containing sulfur and arsenic around micro-fine gold particles was largely removed via roasting. Relatively lower cyanide consumption resulted from that (a) sulfur and arsenic in the ore were effectively removed with two-stage roasting and (b) the leach time required was extremely short. Notably, the good gold extraction of over 80 % and lower cyanide consumption of 0.82 kg/t were attained within only 0.5 h, and short leach time produced less inevitable ions content in the slurry, which is of great significance for subsequent purification processes and saving energy.

Abstract:<p>Oxygen pressure alkaline self-leaching of gold is an environmentally friendly and smokeless leaching process. But the insoluble iron oxide generated will precipitate on the surface of parent minerals, thus reducing the oxidation reaction and gold leaching efficiency. Simultaneously, due to the different pH requirements of pyrite oxidation and gold leaching, the pH must be strictly controlled to achieve the maximum efficiency. In this work, dissolution effect and buffering effect of sodium carbonate in the gold self-leaching process were carried out. As the addition of sodium carbonate, soluble iron-carbonate complexes would be formed to remove passivation layer and expose fresh surface of pyrite, resulting in improvement pyrite oxidation rate. Meanwhile, the buffering capacity of sodium carbonate can avoid the thiosulfate decomposition and improve the concentration of thiosulfate. The maximum gold extraction efficiency of gold-bearing flotation concentrate could achieve 91.56% under the following condition: a concentration of sodium hydroxide, sodium carbonate and sodium carboxymethyl cellulose at 0.6 M, 0.3 M and 100 mg/dm<sup>3</sup>, respectively; stirring speed at 800 rpm; temperature at 308.15 K; oxygen pressure at 0.5 Mpa; leaching time of 18 h and a liquid-solid ratio of 5:1.</p>

Abstract:A lead -zinc mine in Yunnan produces annually 100 000 t of flotation tailings.Flotation tail-ings contains iron 8.72%,sulfur 0.94%,phosphorus 0.14% and other impurities.Direct storage of tailings pile can lead to increase mine cost pressures and waste of resources.The rough concentrate was obtained by using weak magnetic -intensity magnetic separation -flotation desulfurization joint process, where in the flotation process uses a thick and sweep process.H2 SO4 and MHH -1 are mixed as activa-ting agent of pyrite.Experimental studies showed that,qualified iron concentrate could be obtained by a joint process of weak magnetic separation -strong magnetic separation -flotation desulfurization,which the Fe content is 58.02%,the impurities content of sulfur,phosphorus are respectively 0.20% and 0.09%,and comprehensive recovery rate is 70.81%.

Abstract:This study comprehensively investigated arsenic's enrichment, distribution, and characteristics in tailings. XRD and SEM-EDS characterized the phase and morphology of tailings from various smelting processes. At the same time, the embedding characteristics of arsenic in the ore phase were analyzed by EPMA. The differences between arsenic's leading ore phase carriers in different recovery processes were found. It was discussed that this phenomenon would be related to the element-binding ability and the precipitation priority of the ore phase. The occurrence state of arsenic was discussed by sequential chemical extraction experiments. The proportion of leachable arsenic is higher than the low-risk limit, whatever which smelting method is adopted, which leads to high environmental risk. In the experiment of comparing the leaching toxicity of tailings by different leaching methods, the arsenic concentration in the leaching solution of tailings recovered by the flotation method exceeds the specified safety range. Although the tailings after reduction smelting did not show high leaching toxicity, a large number of accumulations also would not represent absolute safety.

Abstract:The flotation tests and XPS analyses on galena,sphalerite and pyrite have been carried out in a collecting-depressing-reactivating system（hereafter referred as the CDR system）.In this system,sulfide minerals were first collected and activated by the collector,and then depressed strongly by Ca（OH）2 in the strong alkaline solution,and finally reactivated by H2SO4.The flotation tests of pure minerals show that in this system the flotation behaviors of sphalerite and pyrite present irreversible characteristics along with the change of pulp potential.Furthermore,through the CDR system,considerable differences in the flotabilities between galena and sphalerite/pyrite are also observed.The XPS analysis results for galena,sphalerite and pyrite in a CDR system show that in the strong alkaline solution,some of the collectors,that have been already adsorbed on the mineral surface in the collecting process,are desorbed by Ca（OH）2.The XPS analysis results also show that in H2SO4 reactivating process,the surface hydroxides of galena are desorbed again by H2SO4 and replaced by diethyl dithiocarbamate,but those of sphalerite and pyrite are not desorbed.This flotation system may be applied to the bulk-differential flotation process of sulfur-bearing low-grade lead-zinc ores.
