Abstract:This paper mainly introduces the implementation method of a high PPI transparent Micro‐LED display. By optimizing the pixel layout, proposing an innovative substrate array structure and process method, and introducing a high brightness uniformity driving scheme, a 8.07” high PPI transparent Micro‐LED display is produced while maintaining high PPI, while also considering high transmittance and high brightness, which proposes a new technology carrier for Micro‐LED transparent display applications.

Abstract:In this paper, we presented a active matrix Mini LED full color display with high transmittance over 60%. A 8‐inch display with RGB Mini‐LED with IGZO TFT backplane was demonstrated, which is 46 PPI pixel resolution and 256 grayscales and the pixel pitch is less than 0.55mm. It is the first time to realized the full color display based on RGB Mini‐LEDs and chip on glass with top gate structure IGZO TFT backplane. We believe that it is a good breakthrough and demonstration for developing large‐size Micro LED backplane and displays.

Abstract:Mini-and micro-light-emitting diodes (mini/micro-LEDs) are an ideal technology platform for display and bioelectronic applications. For mini/micro-LEDs based on III-V semiconductors, the requirements for high-quality epitaxy and mass transfer are demanding, raising barriers for production yields and costs. Perovskite LEDs (PeLEDs) are an emerging alternative to conventional LEDs. However, the options for creating non-epitaxial mini/micro-LEDs by miniaturizing the pixel areas of PeLEDs are limited. Here, we demonstrate efficient single-pixel PeLEDs with active areas from 500 x 200 mu m(2) to 100 x 200 mu m(2), showing external quantum efficiencies of up to 9.1%. Key to this demonstration is 2-fold. First, a nanometer-thin lithium fluoride (LiF) interlayer allows surface tension relief within the microscopic device structure, enabling robust integration of high-efficiency PeLED architectures with self-aligned photolithography. Second, preparing uniform and highly luminescent perovskite layers are critical as the active area enters the micrometer regime. Our work paves the way toward next-generation microPeLED applications.
Large Scale Transparency-Adjustable Mini-Led Display with Recoverable Color Gamut by a Highly Transparent Electrochromic Shutter

Abstract:In this work, a 25 inch (400 × 500 mm) transparency-adjustable mini-LED (TA-MLED) display is constructed of a transparent mini-LED (T-MLED) screen and an electrochromic (EC) shutter. The shutter shows a high transmittance of 86.5% with imperceptible color shift, enabling a perfect vision experience for see-through application. Furthermore, the response speed of the shutter is accelerated by optimal designs in splicing and driving. The coloring time is 55 s, and bleaching time is 36 s. Transmittance of the TA-MLED could be modulated from 3% to 60%. The transparency-adjustable property extends availability of the see-through display screens under strong light irradiations. The T-MLED's color gamut in CIE 1976 shrinks from 145.1% sRGB to 3.6% sRGB with 5161 cd/m2 of backside illumination, and is significantly enhanced to 83.5% sRGB with the active EC shutter.
Extremely high pixel density color conversion micro-LED displays with high efficiency and wide color gamut coverage

Abstract:With the vigorous development of display technology, micro light-emitting diode (Micro-LED) display has become the most potential technology in the future. Its characteristics include high resolution, long life, wide color gamut, high contrast, fast response, small pixel size and low power consumption. The technical bottleneck of Micro-LED display is the mass transfer, so we use semiconductor lithography process to replace it for much lower cost and higher production speed. We propose color conversion technology to achieve higher efficiency and light intensity than mass transfer. In this study, we used a waterproof and viscous organic material Polyvinyl Butyral Resin (PVB) as the main material to synthesize rare-earth-free color conversion luminescent materials, which contain 4-(dicyanomethylene)-2-tert-butyl-6- (1,1,7,7-tetramethyljulolidin-4-yl-vinyl)-4H-pyran (DCJTB) for red light and 3-(2-Benzothiazolyl)-7-(diethylamino) coumarin (Coumarin 6) for green light with very high quantum yield (~90%). Through semiconductor process technology, we have realized the fabrication of extremely small size 4μm × 4μm display arrays. The single-color pixel density can reach 5080 pixels per inch (PPI), and the full-color pixel density reaches up to 2540 PPI, with a display color gamut covering approximately 92.3% of the digital cinema initiatives - protocol 3 (DCI-P3) standard. This research achievement offers a promising technique for manufacturing the next generation of Micro-LED displays with extremely high PPI. These advancements in display technology bring tremendous potential for various applications, ranging from consumer electronics products to augmented reality and beyond.

In this study, we successfully fabricated an 8‐inch flexible mini‐LED display using an IGZO TFT backplane. Being cooperated with colorless polyimide (CPI) as substrate, the thickness of the mini‐LED panel is less than 0.2mm, and the transmittance is over 60%. The world's first 8‐inch, full color, flexible mini‐LED with IGZO‐TFT backplane is demonstrated.

Abstract:A large transparent liquid crystal display (LCD) prototype with ultrahigh transmittance and good see-through property is demonstrated in this paper. The transmittance reaches more than 20% by introducing the RGBW pixel arrangement, a thin color filter process, a large aperture ratio design, as well as antireflective polarizer film. The see-through image quality is also greatly improved by suppressing the blurring by using domain reduction pixel design. All these approaches are applicable for large LCD panel products, and we expect broad applications of large transparent LCDs in the near future.

Abstract:In our work, we achieved the 1.63‐inch 403‐PPI full‐color active‐matrix Micro‐LED display based on LTPS backplane, which possesses the property of >600 nits brightness, >120% NTSC, and >1,500,000:1 contrast ratio. At present, it is the highest PPI product of LTPS based Micro‐LED display in the world.

Abstract:In order to satisfy the special demand of AR products for ultra‐high luminescence and high resolution full‐color silicon‐based OLED micro displays, a silicon‐based OLED micro display with resolution of more than 4000 ppi (0.36 inch with 1280×720) and a luminescence of more than 5000 nit is investigated. First, the design scheme of high‐resolution silicon‐based OLED driver is introduced. Based on the scheme of strong microcavity effect OLED device, the structure of red, green and blue monochrome luminescence enhancement is verified, and the current efficiency reaches 60 cd A ‐1 , 95 cd A ‐1 and 6 cd A ‐1 , respectively. Finally, the development of HD036 chip is finished, and the high luminescence full‐color silicon‐based OLED micro display device with ppi more than 4000, luminescence more than 5000 nit, and color gamut more than 85% is achieved. The effect of virtual reality overlay display is achieved by the verification of AR machine.

Abstract:This work discusses a super thin Mini‐LED direct back light for upscale liquid crystal displays. In this manuscript, it is that Mini‐LED light is reflected between a gradient reflected pattern combined with Mini‐LED driving lines and back reflector of back light unit. The optical length is therefore enlarged in limited distance, which means that the diffusor plate and optical distance can be removed. Meanwhile, light from a red, a green and a blue Mini‐LED is mixing to generate white for display, replacing a 0.3–0.5mm thick color changing film, such as quantum dot enhancement film. The total thickness of this designed Mini‐LED back light is about 1.595mm when Mini‐LED pitch is 4.75mm. The measured uniformity and optical efficiency are verified as designs above 90% and 45%. Additionally, this direct back light can realize high‐dynamic range to improving display quality with lower power consumption. This work not only improves display quanlity in limited thickness, but also extends lifetime of liquid crystal display in coming future.

Abstract:Reflectivity, one of the most key specifications for display, is pursued to be extreme low to match the name of ultimate display for micro-LEDs. Conventionally, black light shield film is fabricated by photolithographic process before or after the micro- LED chips being mass transferred to the driver substrate to meet this requirement. In this study, we report a novel black light shield film material by a simple and effective graphical process to achieve ultra-low reflectivity with little influence on the light output of LED chips to dispense with complicated lithography process, which can fill the gap between the LED chips and the eutectic layer at the bottom of the LED chips, and expose the top of the micro-LED chips simultaneously. The black light shield film was directly adhered to the micro-LED substrate by heating, vacuum and press. Whole surface ashing process was then carried out to remove the excess black light shield film on the surface of the micro-LED substrate. By optimizing the thickness of removed black film, the surface of the micro-LED chips could be exposed while other places were still covered with black light shield film. A full-color Micro-LED display with 114 PPI resolution and size of 1.98-inch was successfully fabricated and showed superb performance with 1.16% reflectivity.

Abstract:Aiming at the next‐generation displays, high‐resolution quantum dot light‐emitting diodes (QLEDs) with high efficiency and transparency are highly desired. However, there is limited study involving the improvements of QLED pixel resolution, efficiency, and transparency simultaneously, which undoubtedly restrict the practical applications of QLED for next‐generation displays. Here, the strategy of electrostatic force‐induced deposition (EF‐ID) is proposed by introducing alternating polyethyleneimine (PEI) and fluorosilane patterns to synergistically improve the pixel accuracy and transmittance of QD patterns. More importantly, the leakage current induced by the void spaces between pixels that is usually reported for high‐resolution QLEDs is greatly suppressed by substrate‐assisted insulating fluorosilane patterns. Finally, high‐performance QLEDs with high resolution ranging from 1104 to 3031 pixels per inch (PPI) and a high efficiency of 15.6% are achieved, among the best performances of high resolution QLEDs. Notably, the high resolution QD pixels greatly enhance the transmittance of the QD patterns, thus prompting an impressive transmittance of 90.7% for the transparent QLEDs (2116 PPI), which represents the highest transmittance of transparent QLED devices. Consequently, this work contributes an effective and general approach for high‐resolution QLEDs with high efficiency and transparency. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved

Abstract:This report discusses a glass based ultra‐thin Red, Green and Blue Mini‐LED direct back light for high‐end professional liquid crystal displays. In this work, a gradient reflected pattern combined Mini‐LED driving lines reflect light scattering between the patterns and back reflector of back light unit, and therefore enlarge Mini‐LED optical length. A group of a red, green and red Mini‐LED is using to generate white for display, replacing a 0.3–0.5mm thick color changing film. The total thickness of Mini‐LED direct back light is reduced to 1.595mm when the Mini‐LED pitch is about 4.75mm. This direct back light can realize high‐dynamic range to improving display quality without cost consumption and then extend lifetime liquid crystal display lifetime in coming decent years.

Abstract:<p>Mini‐LED and micro‐LED are expected to be the next‐generation display by virtue of their diverse applications. In this study, an 8‐inch flexible mini‐LED display was fabricated using an indium–gallium–zinc oxide (IGZO) thin‐film transistor (TFT) backplane that adopted a top‐gate structure, with a pixel pitch of 0.55 mm and a resolution of 320 x 160, 46 PPI. With colorless polyimide (CPI) as the substrate, the mini‐LED panel has a thickness of less than 0.2 mm, and a transmittance is over 60%. Abstract:GaN-based Micro-LED has become a research hotspot as a novel display technology due to its numerous unique advantages. Especially in augmented reality and smart glasses applications, Micro-LED display chip with high transparency possesses unparalleled opportunities. In this work, GaN-based transparent single-color Micro-LED display chip based on double-side polished sapphire substrate was designed with a single pixel size of $20\,\,\mu \text{m}\times 20\,\,\mu \text{m}$ , and a resolution of 254 pixel per inch (PPI). The transparency reaches 80% among the whole display area ~ 0.18 inch, and the luminance of display chip can reach up to 25000 nits. It demonstrates a broad application prospects in augmented reality, smart glasses, and etc., providing promising vista for the development of “Metaverse” in the future.

Abstract:This paper proposed a prototype of flexible 7.1 inch full color micro‐LED display. The resolution is 320RGB×270 and pixel pitch is 0.432mm. Top‐gate IGZO backplane is suitable for flexible micro‐LED display with its high stability and good TFT characteristics. We adopted elastomer stamp transfer technology to transfer red, green, and blue micro‐LEDs to substrate. The micro‐LED size is 35um×25um and the luminance of the prototype can reach beyond 500nits.

The photoelectric performance of Micro‐LED devices far exceeds that of OLED and other existing display components. Many characteristic changes occur after miniaturization of devices, which cannot be explained by traditional classical models.

Abstract:This work addresses the design and verification of an outdoor 55‐inch 4K‐resolution and high‐brightness liquid crystal display (LCD) product. The new pixel design is able to increase the module transmittance to as high as 6.24%. The amorphous silicon (a‐Si) thin film transistor (TFT) has excellent light‐ and temperature‐stability. The gate drive circuit has been improved to reduce the operating temperature by 5~7 â„ƒ. The brightness of the display is up to 4056 nits, which is the brightest known 55‐inch 4K‐resolution display product.

Abstract:Group III–V semiconductor‐based microscale light‐emitting diode (micro‐LED) displays are recognized as one of the most promising display technologies with superhigh brightness and resolution, strong contrast, and superlarge color gamut but currently suffer from low efficiency, low production yield, and high cost. Here, it is proposed to realize cost‐effective and full‐color micro‐LED displays by using microscale perovskite quantum dot LEDs (micro‐PeLEDs) as emitters. Bright and uniform red‐, green‐, and blue‐emitting (RGB) micro‐PeLED arrays with each pixel size as small as 45 µm are fabricated by in situ inkjet printing a perovskite quantum dot (PeQD) emissive layer in the structure of indium tin oxide/poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene)‐poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS)/poly(9‐vinylcarbazole) (PVK)/sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS)/PeQD/1,3,5‐tris(1‐phenyl‐1H‐benzimidazol‐2‐yl)benzene (TPBi)/LiF/Al. These RGB micro‐PeLED arrays display an external quantum efficiency of 0.832%, 0.419%, and 0.052% for red, green, and blue colors, a resolution of 210 PPI, and a wide color gamut (135% of the National Television Standards Committee standard). The authors further demonstrate flexible and full‐color active‐matrix micro‐PeLED displays, which have potential applications in future ultrahigh‐definition displays, light communication, and artificial intelligence. Microscale perovskite quantum dot light‐emitting diodes (micro‐PeLEDs) are fabricated through an “interface engineering‐inkjet printing‐plasma etching” strategy using perovskite quantum dot arrays as the emissive layer for full‐color displays with the advantages of low cost, free massive transfer, high resolution, and suitability for large‐area or flexible displays. This provides a new approach for the development of micro‐LEDs.

Abstract:A full-color micro-LED display can be achieved by red, green, and blue (RGB) chips or by a blue/ultraviolet (UV) micro-LED array to pump downconverters. The latter helps relieve the burden of epitaxial growth of tri-color micro-LED chips. However, such a color-converted micro-LED system usually suffers from color crosstalk and low efficiency due to limited optical density of color converters. With funnel-tube array and reflective coating on its inner surface, the crosstalk is eliminated, and the optical efficiency can be improved by more than two times. In addition, the ambient contrast ratio is also improved because of higher light intensity. The color gamut of this device is approximately 92% of DCI-P3 standard.
