Abstract:This study employed bamboo as the raw material and employed the sodium chlorite method to remove most of the chromogenic groups in bamboo. The low-temperature reactive dyes were then utilized as the dyeing agents in combination with the one-bath method to dye the decolorized bamboo bundles. The dyed bamboo bundles were subsequently twisted into bamboo fiber bundles with high flexibility. The effects of various factors, including dye concentration, dyeing promoter concentration, and fixing agent concentration, on the dyeing properties, mechanical properties, and other properties of the twisted bamboo bundles were investigated using a tensile test, dyeing rate test, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy. The results indicate that the macroscopic bamboo fibers prepared by the top-down method have excellent dyeability. The dyeing treatment not only improves the aesthetics of bamboo fibers but also improves their mechanical properties to a certain extent. When the concentration of dye is 1.0% (o.w.f.), the concentration of dye promoter is 30 g/L, and the concentration of color fixing agent is 10 g/L, the comprehensive mechanical properties of the dyed bamboo fiber bundles are the best. At this time, the tensile strength is 95.1 MPa, 2.45 times that of undyed bamboo fiber bundles. XPS analysis results show that the relative content of C-O-C in the fiber is significantly increased compared with that before dyeing, which indicates that the formed dye fiber covalent bond can strengthen the cross-linking between fibers, thus improving its tensile performance. The covalent bond is stable, and the dyed fiber bundle can retain its mechanical strength even after high temperature soaping.

Abstract:Through the detection and analysis of the solution by zeta potential, absorbency and digital photos, the alkaline pretreatment and surface treatment of different reagents were investigated on the effects of the dispersion properties of carbon fiber. The physical strength and volume resistivity of paper consist of carbon fiber and plant fiber pulp. The results showed that alkaline pretreatment could improve the dispersion of carbon fiber to a certain extent, Tween-80 and CPAM reagents could further significantly increase the dispersion and tensile index and electrical conductivity of carbon fiber paper. However, their dispersion mechanism were different. Tween-80 realized the fiber dispersion by reducing the solid-liquid surface tension and improving the wetting ability of water on the fiber; and CPAM formed a large three-dimensional network to prevent the movement and clusterging of carbon fiber together, and to improve the dispersion of the carbon fiber in the pulp.

Abstract:In recent years, carbon quantum dots (CQDs) have been employed in the functionalization research of fiber-based materials due to their distinctive physicochemical properties. We used citric acid and urea as precursors and combined with hydrothermal method to prepare green and non-toxic carbon quantum dots (NCQDs), which were loaded into four-color twisted bamboo fiber bundles and possessed photoluminescence effect by simple impregnation method. Based on the verification of the structure and fluorescence properties of NCQDs, the fluorescent twisted bamboo fiber tows were comparatively analyzed for their chemical composition, microscopic morphology, mechanical properties, color difference, and thermal stability. The results showed that the four groups of fluorescent twisted bamboo fiber tows emitted uniform and bright blue fluorescent effects under UV light irradiation, and increased the tensile strength by 19.77% ~ 39.27% and the sexual modulus by 66.11% ~ 88.78% compared with the original twisted bamboo fiber tows. The impregnated carbon quantum dot solution enhances the functionality of the fiber bundle while enriching the color expression. It is expected to be a potential application material in the fields of smart marking, fluorescent anti-counterfeiting, interior decoration, and home textile industry.

Abstract:The polylactic acid fiber was dyed by selected disperse dyes.The influence of auxiliary on diffusion coefficient D was determined by measuring the dye-uptake and half-dyeing time,and proved by Hill equation,and therefore the dyeing dynamics of PLA fiber was researched.The results showed that half-dyeing time,was prolonged in the presence of three kinds of dyeing auxiliaries at 105 ℃,which meant to lower the dyeing rate and dye uptake.After adding the nonionic surfactants 524 and anionic dispersing agent JS-N,dyeing velocity coefficient K would reduce and half-dyeing time would notably increase.Increasing in diffusion coefficient D with leveler 2011 was beneficial to the dye uptake.

Abstract:A series of blue crosslinking dyes EDCD, DTCD, TPCD, PVAmCD and PAAmCD were synthesized by the reaction of 1,4-dihydroxyanthraquinone with ethylenediamine, diethylenetriamine, tetraethylethylenediamine, polyvinylamine and polyallyl amine. These crosslinking dyes can be classified into two kinds, i.e. small crosslinking dyes and polymeric crosslinking dyes. These dyes were crosslinked to cotton via covalent bond by a new crosslinker NSC prepared from 4,5-diamino-2,7-naphthalenedisulphonate and cyanuric chloride. The effects of crosslinking dyeing conditions, such as NSC concentration, curing temperature and pH of crosslinking bath on the dye fixation were investigated in detail. At optimum conditions, the fixations of EDCD, DTCD, TPCD, PVAmCD and PAAmCD using NSC as a crosslinker on cotton were 91.2%, 95.6%, 99.1%, 99.4% and 99.2%, respectively. The wrinkle recovery of crosslinking dyeing was also studied. These results indicated that the polymeric crosslinking dyes showed better performance than the small ones.

Abstract:The dyeing properties of the polylactic acid (PLA) fiber with four different disperse dyes was studied. In the disperse dyeing process, differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) analysis was applied to test and analyze the changes of the glass-transition and melting temperature of the dyed and pure PLA fiber. The results indicated that not only the structure of the dispersed dyes and the dyeing conditions affected the dyeing performance of PLA fiber, but also the degree of the crystallinity of PLA fiber contributed to the final dyeing results. Moreover, the transformation of such crystallinity during the disperse dyeing process should be taken into account when the dyeing temperature was studied.

Abstract:The rates of dye-uptake of 6 different dyes,such as C.I.Disperse Blue 56,were determined.Factors influencing the stability of C.I.Disperse Blue 56 were studied systematically.Weight average particle size(Dw) and weight specific surface area(Sw) were measured.The average particle size of DyStar Dianix Yellow XF was about 0.85 μm determined by JL9200 laser particle size instrument.Results showed that particle size obeys normal distribution,the size of 85% dye particles was smaller than 0.98 μm.By contrast,the particle size of two domestic dyes was larger than 1.6 μm and the cumulative average particle size was between 8 and 10 μm on the whole,which was 9 times as big as average particle size of the imported dye and the distribution was inhomogeneous.The grinding condition was selected and a stable homogeneous disperse dye solution was obtained by studying the relations between disperse dye particle size and dyeing performance.The average exhaustion rate increased 7% by using fineness improved disperse dye.

Abstract:Three reactive dyes, with bisbenzimidazole as the chromophore and bischlorotriazine as the active group, were synthesized and characterized. The photophysical properties of the dyes were discerned by UV-vis absorption, emission, and density functional theory calculations. All the dyes exhibited two absorption bands in the UV-vis region. The main band at 270 nm was attributed to the intramolecular pi-pi* transition, whereas the absorption at 360 nm was assigned to the pi-pi* mixed intramolecular charge transfer transitions. As the planarity of the benzimidazole components was enhanced, the energy gap of these dyes decreased, which caused a redshift. The relationship between the structure and dyeing properties of the dyes was also studied from the perspective of dyeing depth and fastness. The results showed that these dyes can be dyed on silk effectively, the dyeing depths were in the range of 0.08 similar to 35 under salt-free conditions and the dry/wet rubbing fastness of these dyes could reach grades 4-5. In summary, these reactive dyes could be potential dyes for salt-free dyeing applications.

Abstract:A new orange homobifunctional triazine reactive dye was synthesized, using the dichlorotriazine reactive dye with the same chromophore. The homobifunctional and dichlorotriazine dyes were evaluated on textile and paper. The degree of exhaustion, fixation, and the fastness properties of dyed cotton samples of washing, acidic and alkaline perspiration, dry and wet rubbing were assessed. Dyes were used in the composition of offset printing paper with a fiber content of bleached softwood and hardwood pulp in a ratio of 1:1. The paper was sized with alkyl ketene dimer and natural calcium carbonate was used as a filler. The main strength and hydrophobic properties of the dyed papers were examined. The optical properties — L*, a*, b*, C*, and h* from the CIE Lab color space of the resulting paper and textile samples have been examined. As a result of the studies carried out it was found out that with both reactive dyes, paper and textile samples with similar color shades, uniform coloring, and stable color were obtained. With respect to the complex of the examined strength, capillary, and optical properties, better results were obtained with homobifunctional reactive triazine dye.

Abstract:Bamboo fiber is gaining the curious attention of researchers as well as the fashion and apparel industries as an alternative to the cotton fiber. Bamboo fabric besides having prodigious characteristics, possess several limitations i. e. high-cost, poor spin-ability, a significant reduction in strength under wet conditions etc. The present study is focused to address the problems associated with the bamboo fiber to make it user and environment-friendly. An isocyanate based compound, HDI (blocked hexamethylene diisocyanate) was chemically crosslinked with bamboo fabric to enhance its dyeability and fastness properties without compromising on its thermal stability and tensile strength. The dyeing properties, levelness, thermal stability, absorbency, and tensile and tear strength measurements of the HDI- based bamboo fabric were compared with the untreated fabrics. The HDI -based bamboo fabric dyed with commercial reactive dyes exhibited up to 10% and 9% increase in exhaustion and total percent fixation, respectively. Whereas the modified fabrics dyed with lab-synthesized reactive dyes displayed 12–14% and 10% increase in fixation and total percent fixation, respectively. Furthermore, the HDI- based bamboo fabrics possessed better dyeing levelness compared to the untreated fabrics. Light and rubbing fastness of some of the modified fabrics increased significantly. Absorbency of the treated bamboo fabrics decreased while no significant change in the thermal stability and tensile strength of the treated fabrics was noticed after HDI treatment.

Abstract:Three unreported cationic reactive dyes based on azobenzene were synthesized using a novel synthetic route. Synthesized dyestuffs containing three primary color dyes were characterized by FTIR, H-NMR, LC-MS, Element Analysis and UV-vis spectroscopic techniques. The absorption spectra of dyes were measured in three solvents with different polarities. The dyeing and color fastness properties of three cationic reactive dyes on wool, acrylic and wool/acrylic blend fabrics were determined. The optimum pH for wool and acrylic fabrics were 6 and 5, respectively. Effect of temperature, time on dyeing properties and color fastness properties on wool fabric showed the same tendency with acrylic fabric. The K/S value of wool fabric dyed with three dyes was similar to that of acrylic fabric when both fabrics were dyed simultaneously in the same dyebath using low dye concentration. Wool/acrylic blend fabric dyed with three cationic reactive dyes using onebath one-step method achieved good union dyeing property and excellent color fastness.

Abstract:A series of novel reactive dyes D1-D3 based on vinamidinium salt were designed and synthesized. Bis(monochlorotriazine) was introduced as the reactive group and sodium sulfonate was the water-soluble group. Their photophysical properties were studied systematacially. The strong and sharp ground-state absorption peak in the 250-320 nm range in the UV-vis absorption spectrum of the aqueous solution could be attributed to the 1 pi-pi* transition by the parent structure of the dyes, and the relatively broad absorption peak in the range of 300-650 nm could be attributed to the 1 pi-pi* mixed intramolecular charge transfer. By applying this series of reactive dyes to the dyeing of four fabrics (silk, cotton, polyester/cotton blends, and polyester), the dyeing depths were in the range of 5.2-28.6 under salt-free conditions. The results show that D3 with higher planarity can increase the dyeing depth. At length, fastening tests on dyed cotton fabrics and silk showed that this series of reactive dyes had a color fastness between grades 3 and 5 for abrasion and soap-washing. Experimental and Theoretical Study of Madder-Associated Dyestuffs on Silk: Adsorption of Kinetics, Thermodynamics and Molecular Docking

Abstract:In this work, dyed samples were self-prepared from two methods including madder dyeing and mordant dyeing by madder combined with Al 3+ at different temperatures, and their kinetics and isothermal adsorption were both discussed. Weber–Morris diffusion model and Freundlich model were found to be more suitable in dyeing for kinetics and thermodynamics. Through SEM, FTIR and fastness tests, the dyeing performances were displayed and the possible structure between madder dyes and the complex with Al 3+ were illustrated. By molecular docking, madder dyes showed combination with glutamic acid predominantly. After introducing metal ion, the shortage of hydrogen bonds length was observed. It was initially employed to elucidate the potential binding modes between dyes and proteinaceous fibers. Overall, through experimental dyeing and curve fitting, this study provided insights into the dyeing mechanism of madder-associated dyestuffs on silk. Moreover, molecular docking elucidated the dyeing mechanism further, highlighting that the presence of metal ion enhances the firmness of the staining. The elucidation of dyeing mechanism not only provided valuable theoretical support for color restoration but also shed light on the practically modify of methods in obtaining ideal color. These results could serve as inspiration for conservators to maintain the vibrancy and longevity of dyed silks. 本工作采用茜草染色和茜草与Al 3+ 在不同温度下进行媒染剂染色两种方法制备了染色样品,并对其动力学和等温吸附进行了讨论. Abstract:Abstract This study aims to investigate the influence of tie-dye techniques on the durability and aesthetic appeal of textiles. To address the issues of textile damage and visual aesthetics during usage, researchers conducted comparative experiments using five tie-dye fabric techniques and a wax-resist technique. The experimental results revealed that textiles processed through the folding and clamping dye method exhibited notable resistance to breakage in terms of durability. Textiles treated with the stitch and bind dye method demonstrated significant advantages over other processing methods in terms of colorfastness, fabric luster, and visual attractiveness. The study findings indicate a positive impact of tie-dye techniques on the durability and aesthetic appeal of textiles. By employing tie-dye techniques, the durability of the textiles remained uncompromised while enhancing their aesthetic appeal. This technique is suitable for everyday use, and it also improves the visual quality of textiles, making them more competitive in the market. Therefore, tie-dye techniques offer an effective and promising improvement method for the textile industry, with wide potential applications in practical production.

Abstract:Textile Research Journal, Ahead of Print. To explore the color diversity and performance of functional submicron cotton fabric dyed with ecological natural dyes, three types of natural dyes sappanwood, madder, and gardenia and orchid, were used to dye the fabric. The optimal dyeing conditions for sappanwood were found to be an insulation temperature of 95°C, a dyeing bath pH of 5.5, and a dyeing time of 60 min, resulting in the highest apparent color value (K/S). For madder, the optimal conditions were an insulation temperature of 90°C, a dyeing bath pH value of 6, and a dyeing time of 60 min. Similarly, for gardenia and orchid, the optimal conditions were an insulation temperature of 90°C, a dyeing bath pH value of 5, and a dyeing time of 60 min. Based on these preferred dyeing processes, the K/S value, color characteristic value, color fastness, and biodegradability of the three natural dyes were compared and analyzed with synthetic dyes. The results showed that natural dyeing resulted in higher brightness (L* values), lower color depth (C* values), lower red-green (a*) and yellow-blue (b*) values, similar hues, and lower K/S values compared to synthetic dyeing. The color fastness of the natural dyes was slightly lower than that of chemical dyes by 0.5 grade. Additionally, the average breaking strength, elongation at break, tearing strength, and bursting strength of the fabric increased by 9.34%, 5.69%, 9.75%, and 7.31%, respectively. Furthermore, the biodegradability of the natural dyes was over 93%, significantly higher than that of synthetic dyes. These findings provide a theoretical basis for the production of eco-friendly dyeing of functional submicron cotton fabrics and their textile color applicability.

Abstract:Two new homobifunctional triazine reactive dyes, derivatives of H acid and anthraquinone, containing a fragment of 4,4′-diaminostilbene-2,2′-disulfonic acid have been synthesized. They and their dichlorotriazine dye intermediates were evaluated for applicability on textiles and paper. The degree of exhaustion and fixation of the dyes and the fastness properties of dyed cotton samples of washing, acidic and alkaline perspiration, dry and wet rubbing, and light fastness were assessed. Offset printing paper composition, consisting of bleached softwood and hardwood cellulose fibers in a ratio of 1:1, was dyed with the investigated reactive dyes. The hydrophobicity of the paper was increased by the addition of alkyl ketene dimer. Natural calcium carbonate was used as a filler. The main mechanical and hydrophobic properties of the dyed papers were examined. The color coordinates of the examined paper and textile samples were determined using the CIE Lab color space. The photostability of the dyes in water solution was studied. It was found that the introduction of a fragment of 4,4′-diaminostilbene-2,2′-disulfonic acid in the dye molecule increases the photostability by 10%. As a conclusion of the studies, it was found that both reactive dyes could have applications in textile and paper production. Better results were obtained for the homobifunctional triazine reactive dyes.

Abstract:The one-step dyeing and finishing of tussah fiber have advantages of short process, high efficiency, and energy and water saving. Additionally, to upgrade the functionalities of tussah silk fiber using natural chemicals with environmental benefits can increase its applicability. In this work, the combined application of plant extracts and acid dyes was presented for simultaneously imparting colorful shades, antioxidant activity, antibacterial activity, and UV protection capability to tussah silk. The stability of tannic acid, baicalin, and their mixtures with acid dyes was first discussed, and the colors and functionalities of dyed and finished tussah silk were evaluated. Tannic acid had less effect on the colors of dyed tussah silk. C.I. Acid Blue 113 was not stable in hot baicalin solution, and its pre-heated mixture with baicalin dyed tussah silk to dull red hue rather than blue hue. The bright blue and green colors of tussah silk were obtained by dyeing with anthraquinone and triarylmethane dyes, but their hues were affected by baicalin due to the light yellow color of baicalin and the matching of colors. Tannic acid exhibited better antibacterial property than baicalin on tussah silk, while baicalin had better antioxidant and UV protection capability than tannic acid. This work demonstrates that the one-step dyeing and finishing of tussah silk with acid dyes and plant extracts are feasible. However, special attention should be paid to the color changes of individual dyes for pale dyeing.

Effects of Thermal Treatment on the Mechanical Properties of Bamboo Fiber Bundles

Abstract:Bamboo is known as a typical kind of functional gradient natural composite. In this paper, fiber bundles were extracted manually from various parts of the stem in the radial direction, namely the outer, middle, and inner parts. After heat treatment, the mechanical properties of the fiber bundles were studied, including the tensile strength, elastic modulus, and fracture modes. The micromechanical properties of the fiber cell walls were also analyzed. The results showed that the mean tensile strength of the bamboo fiber bundles decreased from 423.29 to 191.61 MPa and the modulus of elasticity increased from 21.29 GPa to 27.43 GPa with the increase in temperature. The elastic modulus and hardness of the fiber cell walls showed a positive correlation with temperature, with the modulus of elasticity and the hardness increasing from 15.96 to 18.70 GPa and 0.36 to 0.47 GPa, respectively. From the outside to the inside of the bamboo stems, the tensile strength and elastic modulus showed a slight decrease. The fracture behavior of the fiber bundles near the outside approximates ductile fracture, while that of the bundles near to the inside tend to be a brittle fracture. The fracture surfaces of the bamboo bundles and the single fibers became smoother after heat treatment. The results show that bamboo fiber bundles distributed near the outside are most suitable for industrial development under heat treatment at 180 °C. Therefore, this study can provide a reasonable scientific basis for the selective utilization, functional optimization, and bionic utilization of bamboo materials, which has very important theoretical and practical significance.
