Abstract:The hypothesis of necrotizing sialometaplasia should be considered due to the history of dental procedures in the maxillary region 3 months previously. This is an uncommon, self-limiting inflammatory condition that locally destroys the salivary glands, leading to a painful crateriform ulcer.1 One of the possible causative factors may be tissue ischemia due to anesthetic infiltration for dental procedures. However, in general, this lesion resolves spontaneously within 6 weeks.2 In this case, an incisional biopsy is necessary to confirm the inflammatory nature of the lesion or exclude other malignant conditions.
