Abstract:Due to serious limitation of fresh water resources using unconventional water resources like greywater is unavoidable. Considering the high amount of water needed for making concrete, in this research, synthetic and real greywater samples were prepared, and pH, Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), chloride (Cl − ), and sulfate (SO 4 2− ) were evaluated in quality of greywater. Greywaters were used in eco-friendly concrete mixing to investigate the appropriate quality of greywater. The maximum appropriate range of COD, TDS, and sulfate based on the concrete performance index was 119, 411, and 134 mg/L, respectively, and the permissible Water Quality Index was over 67.5. The outputs of tests conducted on samples containing various types of greywater showed a decrease in mechanical performance, unlike durability properties. The results revealed that the quality of concrete mainly depends on the quality of greywater according to the Pearson coefficients. The Pearson coefficient is generally greater than 0.4, revealing a strong correlation between greywater quality variables and concrete characteristics. Using the combination of greywater with potable water commonly indicated better performance than greywater alone. Based on the results, the reuse of greywater can decrease freshwater consumption, but supplementary tests should be performed.
