Abstract:Due to easy operation, low costs, environmental friendliness, and minimal (little) traffic disruptions, material transport (delivery) through slurry pipe systems have achieved a lot of attention in recent years. A pipe bend is one of the prominent parts of the slurry pipe system, which faces erosive wear due to the significant effect of particulate velocity, particle size, particle concentration, etc., which ultimately leads to the failure of the slurry pipe flow system. Utilizing ANSYS 20R1 with Fluent as the solver, the present CFD work has examined the erosion wear rate through pipe bend caused by transporting silica sand particles slurry. The erosive rate of solid spherical particles in the pipe bend with particle diameters of 125 μm, 250 μm, 375 μm, and 500 μm and a mass density of 2650 Kg/m 3 was monitored using the discrete phase method. The erosive wear rates in pipe bend were also examined at different particulate concentrations ranging from 5 to 10 % at different ranges of velocities from 1 to 10 m/s. The Eulerian-Lagrangian model coupled with the Standard k-epsilon turbulence model was utilized in the study. The Generic Erosive Model was used to calculate the erosion wear rate of pipe bend due to the flow of solid–liquid slurry. The presented CFD erosive model can be used in industrial flow applications to predict the erosive wear rate of pipe bend brought by solid–liquid slurry flow due to fine and coarse particles.
