Abstract:In this work, a macro–micro Finite Element-Phase Field (FE-PF) model is proposed to simulate the heat transfer and dendrite growth during the arc deposition of IN718 alloys. Macroscopic heat transfers are simulated using the macroscopic FE model. According to the simulated temperature profile, nonlinear temperature gradient G and solidification rate R are calculated. Microscopic dendritic growth in the molten pool is simulated using the microscopic PF model with G and R. Morphologies of simulated columnar grains are dendritic. Primary dendrite arm spacing (PDAS) changes slightly in different layers due to similar cooling rates G × R. Laves phases form in the interdendritic area owing to the segregation. Simulated morphologies of Laves phases show a strong dependence on the dendritic morphologies. The simulation results are in good agreement with the experimental results.
