Abstract:The influence of temperature on the electron property of anodic corrosion film formed on lead in a 4.5 mol/L H(2)SO(4) solution, was investigated by using linear sweep voltammetry, A.C. voltammetry, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and Mott-Schottky plot methods. The results showed that the film resistance and film porosity increased, but the transfer resistance decreased with increasing the solution temperature. The EIS results implied that the film growth was controlled by a solid-phase mechanism and the Mott-Schottky curve revealed that the film exhibited an n-type semiconductive character, and the donor density decreased with the increment of the solution temperature.

Abstract:The influences of temperature, chloride ions and chromium element on the electronic property of passive film formed on carbon steel in NaHCO3/Na2CO3 buffer solution are investigated by capacitance measurement and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The results show that the passive film appears n-type semiconductive character; with increasing the solution temperature, the addition of chromium into carbon steel and increasing the concentration of chloride ions, the slopes of Mott–Schottky plots decrease, which indicates the increment of the defect density in the passive film. EIS results show that the transfer impedance R1 and the diffusion impedance W decrease with increasing the solution temperature, with the addition of chromium into carbon steel and with increasing the chloride ions concentration. It can be concluded that the corrosion protection effect of passive film on the substrate decreases with increasing the solution temperature, adding chromium into carbon steel and increasing chloride ions concentration.

Abstract:To evaluate the influence of the ZnO buffer layer thickness on structural, electrical and optical properties of ZnO: Al (AZO)/ZnO bi-layer films, a series of AZO/ZnO films were deposited on the quartz substrates by electron beam evaporation. X-ray diffraction measurement shows that the crystal quality of the films is improved with the increase of the film thickness. The electrical properties results show that the resistivity decreases initial and then increases. However, optical transmittance of all the films is >80% regardless of the buffer layer thickness in the visible region. The results illustrate that the insertion of ZnO buffer layer can improve the film performance. © (2012) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

Abstract:The calcium-containing active material of secondary alkaline zinc electrodes was prepared by a chemical coprecipitation method and characterized by scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and X-ray diffractometry(XRD). Their electrochemical performance was tested by the Galvanstatic charge-discharge method. The experimental results show that the sample synthesized at pH = 11.15 has a typical calcium zincate crystal. The zinc electrode using this sample as active material shows higher discharge capacity, more negative discharge plateau potential and longer cycle lifetime.

Abstract:The influence of solution pH and buffer system on the degradation behaviour of pure Zn was investigated and in vitro methodology that can better simulate in vivo corrosion was explored. Electrochemical approaches and immersion tests were performed in buffered pseudo-physiological solutions. It revealed that solution pH affected the degradation and can be adjusted by Tris-HCl, HEPES and NaHCO3/CO2. The pH-control ability and associated influence of three buffer systems varied in NaCl solution and SBF, owing to the introduction of different inorganic ions. Tris-HCl and NaHCO3/CO2 buffered SBF were recommended for future evaluation of biodegradation behaviour of Zn and its alloys.

Abstract:Electrochemical measurements were employed to study the effect of temperature on the electrochemical corrosion of Zn-30Sn in neutral 0.5 M NaCl solution. The corrosion products were characterized by SEM and EDXA. OCP and potentiodynamic polarization results indicate that the increased temperature would negatively shift OCP and Ecorr values of Zn-30Sn, increase the icorr from 6.76 μA/cm2 to 24.97 μA/cm2, deteriorate the corrosion resistance thermodynamically and kinetically. EIS result also illustrates that increasing the temperature will decrease the total resistance value. Microstructure observations demonstrate that the surface corrosion layer with higher temperature forms a more coarse plate-like microstructure, providing less protection to the substrate.

Abstract:This review concentrates on corrosion properties that expose to zinc by various alkaline media. The assumption has been advanced that zinc corrodes electrochemically in the first stage of exposition, but the chemical corrosion prevails after a longer time. Different types of electrolyte had been tested on zinc such as sodium chloride, sodium hydroxide and potassium hydroxide. Each of alkaline media can produced corrosion product such as zinc hydroxide chloride, zinc hydroxide carbonate, zinc oxide, and zinc hydroxide. The production of corrosion products is depending on the carbon dioxide content that introduced to the air. Potassium hydroxide is the highest and active alkaline where it contains the highest ionic conductivity potassium ions, K+ after hydronium, H3O+ among the cations and hydroxide, OH ? has the highest ionic conductivity among the anions.

Abstract:The co-precipitation approach was used to synthesize zinc oxide (ZnO) nanopowders with varying pH values of the starting solution. The structural, optical, and morphological features of ZnO nanopowders synthesized were investigated. The hexagonal structure is confirmed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns, which show a minor shift in crystallite size and strain values with pH. Raman Spectra showed the characteristic peaks of wurtzite structure with strong E2 high vibrational mode. FTIR confirms the ZnO functional groups, and there is a change in the wave number position of groups, which is analyzed with the Zn–O bond length studies of XRD patterns. Field emission scanning electron microscopy studies confirm the change in morphological properties from nanoflakes to spherical and then mixed morphology with increased pH value. The band gap energy of all the samples is measured using the UV–Vis spectra, and it is around 3.20 eV; a very minute change in the band gap is observed with the pH value. Defects and rate of recombination of electron and hole pair were analyzed using photoluminescence spectra and the concentration of defects and recombination is explained using the deconvolution peak analysis. It slightly changes with the pH value. The room-temperature magnetic hysteresis loops confirm the ferromagnetic nature of the samples and with an increase of pH, the required magnetic field to saturate the loop is more. The change in the magnetic properties is explained based on the defects in the samples. The observed results confirmed that the pH value influences the structural, morphological, and magnetic properties, and there is not much difference in the optical properties. This implies that manipulating process parameters allows the preparation of pure ZnO with varied morphological nanostructures, potentially improving its optical and sensing capabilities.

Abstract:The corrosion behavior of pure aluminum in inhibited and uninhibited 4 MKOH was investigated by means of hydrogen collection, polarization curve measurement and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The results showed that the corrosion of pure aluminum was greatly inhibited by the addition of ZnO and dimethyl amine epoxy propane (designated as DE). EIS and EDAX analyses revealed that ZnO produces its effect by depositing on the aluminum surface, which increases the overpotential of hydrogen evolution. It was also found that the addition of DE could greatly improve the deposition of zinc layers.

Abstract:The passivation behavior of CuxZn (x=10, 20, 30 and 40 wt. %) alloys and their individual metal components was studied in borate buffer, pH 9.2, by a combination of electrochemical measurements and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). In general, the shape of cyclic voltammograms of all four alloys resembles that of copper more than that of zinc metal. With increasing zinc content, however, several features originating from the zinc component appear. The composition of the passive film on electrochemically oxidized samples was determined by XPS spectra combined with X-ray induced Auger spectra. The passive film formed on Cu-10Zn alloy consists of Cu2O and CuO/Cu(OH)2, together with a small amount of ZnO which cannot be detected electrochemically but only by XPS analysis. In the case of Cu-40Zn alloy the formation of ZnO is preferred in the passive film and substantially delays and reduces the formation of copper oxides. The ratio of Cu2O to ZnO, in addition to their thickness, was calculated as a function of potential by deconvolution of the Auger spectra. These values were in reasonable agreement with those deduced from electrochemical reduction curves. © 2003 The Electrochemical Society. All rights reserved.

Abstract:Al-doped ZnO (AZO) transparent conducting films were successfully prepared on glass substrates by RF magnetron sputtering at different substrate temperatures in Ar and H 2 + Ar sputtering ambient. The effects of substrate temperature on the effectiveness of hydrogen incorporation in Al-doped ZnO films were investigated. The microstructural, electrical and optical properties of AZO films were systematically analyzed by surface profiler, X-ray diffractometry, scanning electron microscope, four-point probe measurement and UV/vis spectrophotometer. The XRD patterns and SEM pictures indicate that the crystallinity of AZO thin films was markedly improved with hydrogen incorporation at low substrate temperature, while the improvement of crystallinity was not an obvious change at high substrate temperature. The results also indicate that hydrogen incorporation has the stronger effectiveness on the transparent conductive properties of AZO films with the substrate temperature decreasing. The resistivity of the films decreases, especially for lower substrate temperatures, due to the incorporation of hydrogen atoms. These results suggest that substrate temperature should be controlled to the lower level to effectively reduce resistivity without detriment to transmittance of AZO thin films when hydrogen is incorporated. © 2012 Elsevier Ltd. Abstract:The effect of Pb excess on the crystallization and ferroelectric property in Pb(Zr0.3Ti0.7)O3 (PZT) thin films has been investigated. The Pb loss due to atomic interdiffusion and volatilization during thermal annealing has an impact on PZT stoichiometric composition, perovskite structure, and thus ferroelectric properties. The electrical characterization shows that the fatigue is closely correlated with the appropriate Pb content and temperature. With the aid of the fatigue model of concurrent pinning and depinning of domain walls under a repetitive bipolar pulse, we extract pinning and depinning coefficient dependences of the Pb excess and temperature.

Abstract:AZO (Al-doped ZnO) film is a transparent conductive film that offers a simple preparation process, low cost, non-toxicity, and excellent stability. It serves as a high-quality material extensively used in liquid crystal displays, solar cells, and other fields. In this study, AZO thin films were prepared on a PET substrate with an Al 2 O 3 buffer layer using the magnetron sputtering method. The deposition parameters were optimized through the Taguchi method and Grey Correlation Analysis. The results demonstrate that the optimal deposition parameters for achieving superior photoelectric properties during the fabrication of AZO films are 100 W (radio frequency power), 1.0 Pa (sputtering pressure), 20 min (coating time), and 20 °C (substrate temperature). Furthermore, the incorporation of an Al 2 O 3 buffer layer enhances the quality of AZO film on PET substrate. This investigation successfully deposited uniform and highly efficient AZO thin films onto flexible PET substrates at low temperatures, thereby expanding their potential applications in flexible electronics.

Abstract:The effect of Sn content on properties of anodic film formed on PbSn alloys in sulfuric acid solution was investigated using linear sweeping voltage (LSV), cyclic voltammetry (CV), and a.c. voltammetry (ACV), based on the Mott-Schottky analysis. The results revealed that the addition of Sn into lead alloys can promote the corrosion resistance property and could decrease the impedance of anodic film; these results were more remarkable with enhancing the Sn content. The over potential of oxygen evolution on lead alloys enhanced with the increase of Sn content. The Mott-Schottky analysis indicated that the passive film appeared an n-type semiconductor, and the donor density of passive film increased with increasing Sn content. The increased vacancies in the passive film with Sn content increasing could illustrate this trend.

Abstract:The electronic properties of passive film formed on nickel in bicarbonate/carbonate buffer solution were studied by electrochemical impedance spectra (EIS) and Mott-Schottky plot. The film composition was analyzed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The results showed that passive film exhibited p-type semi-conductive character, and the acceptor density (NA) decreased with increasing potential, prolonging time, decreasing temperature, increasing pH value and decreasing chloride/sulfur ions concentration. The transfer resistance and film resistance increased with the above factors changing. XPS results showed that passive film was composed of NiO and a little amount of Ni2O3.
Corrosion Behaviour of Ti–Nb–Sn Shape Memory Alloys in Different Simulated Body Solutions

Abstract:The corrosion resistance of Ti–Nb–Sn alloys in the 0.9% NaCl physiological and Hank's solutions with different pH values (2.4, 5.4, 7.4) at 37°C were investigated by means of open circuit potential (OCP), Tafel and anodic polarization techniques. The compositions of the passive films were analysed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The OCP was found to stabilize within several hours for Ti–Nb–Sn alloys in the Hank's solution but continued to increase in the 0.9% NaCl solution. Tafel results indicated that the corrosion current densities were in the magnitude of below 1μA/cm2. Anodic polarization curves demonstrated a wide passive region. XPS analysis results revealed that the passive film mainly consisted of TiO2, Nb2O5 and SnO2. These observations suggest that Ti–Nb–Sn alloys have a large potential for biomedical applications.
Corrosion Behavior of Pure Zinc and Its Alloy under Thin Electrolyte Layer

Abstract:The corrosion behavior of zinc and its alloy under thin electrolyte layers (TEL) in 0.1M NaCl solution was investigated by cathodic polarization curves and EIS. There was only one phase in pure zinc while zinc alloy consisted of eutectic phase and primary phase. Corrosion rate of zinc alloy was faster than that of pure zinc due to the effect of the micro-galvanic couples between the primary phase and the eutectic phase. The results indicated that corrosion rate of zinc alloy was greatly enhanced under TEL than that in bulk solution. Pure zinc exhibited minimum corrosion resistance as TEL decreased to 198 mu m. Zinc and its alloy exhibited localized corrosion under TEL while it was more uniform in bulk solution. There were two capacitive loops in high frequency (HF) and middle frequency (MF) respectively, with finite length diffusion in low frequency (LF) presented in EIS. For pure zinc under TEL below 300 mu m an additional inductive loop presented in MF-LF. The corrosion products and morphology were respectively examined by X-ray diffraction (XRD), FTIR (Fourier Transform Infra Red) and SEM-EDS. FTIR micro spectroscopy results indicated that the component of the corrosion products was similar at different section of the specimen surface but different in content.

Abstract:Zinc oxide thin films are becoming increasingly popular for their wide range of properties and the ability to deposit these films on organic substrates for applications such as biotemplating, OLEDs, or deposition on fabrics for functionalization purposes including power generation from the flexing and deformation of wearable textiles. However, since many fabrics and other organic substrates can not survive the typically high temperatures of thin film growth, it is important to characterize and understand the dependence of the properties of these films as a function of temperature deposition and subsequent thermal treatments. We report on the properties of zinc oxide thin films grown by Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) and the dependence of, surface roughness, film stress, surface energy and crystalline structure on deposition temperature.

Abstract:Zinc oxide (ZnO) had been interested today because of their unique and good properties in electronic devices. ZnO nanostructured was synthesized via hydrothermal method by varied the pH value from 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11. The effect of different pH values from 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11 was changed the morphological, structure and optical properties. The samples characterized with Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and Ultraviolet- Visible (UV-Vis) spectroscopy. SEM is to observe the morphology images of ZnO nanostructure grains. XRD revealed the detail information on the crystallographic structure and phase formation of the materials. Lastly, UV-vis spectroscopy is to measure the band gap of optical semiconductor. From SEM result, it had shown that the hexagonal nanorods was obtained at pH 7 and pH 11 whereas nanorods is obtain at pH 8, 9 and 10. XRD revealed that the ZnO nanostructure exhibits the hexagonal wurtzite structure and the average crystallite size of ZnO nanoparticle was calculated. UV-Vis spectroscopy shows the absorption of ZnO and band determination from Tauc Plot relation plotter using UV-vis. The resulted show the pH values affect the nanostructure growth of zinc oxide semiconductor properties.
Electronic Properties of Passive Films Formed on G3 and G30 Nickel-Based Alloys in Bicarbonate/Carbonate Buffer Solution

Abstract:The electronic properties of passive films formed on G3 and 030 alloys in bicarbonate/carbonate buffer solution were comparatively studied by electrochemical impedance spectra(EIS) and Mott-Schottky analysis, the chemical composition of the passive film formed on G3 alloy was detected by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The results show that passive film on G3 alloy had better protection than that on G30 alloy. The transfer resistance, film resistance and diffusion resistance of the passive films on both alloys increased with increasing formation potential, prolonging formation time, increasing pH value, decreasing formation temperature, and decreasing chloride and sulphide ions concentration. Mott-Schottky plot reveals that the passive films on the two alloys show a p-n semi-conductive character. XPS analysis indicates that the passive film on G3 alloy was composed of an inner Cr oxide and an outer Fe, Mo/Ni oxides.
