Abstract:The as-cast alloy Mg-2.5Zn-2.0Y-xZr (x = 0, 0.3, 0.6, 0.9 wt%) was alloyed in this investigation. The homogenized as-cast alloy is then rolled, with a single-pass deformation of less than 5% and a cumulative deformation of less than 30%, and the homogeneous alloy rolled to a thickness of 5 mm. The microstructure, mechanical characteristics, corrosion behavior, and biocompatibility of Mg-Zn-Y-xZr alloy were investigated in this work. The microstructure was examined with an optical microscope. Uniaxial stretching determines the mechanical characteristics. The immersion test was performed to assess the rolled alloy's corrosion resistance in Hank's solution. Electrochemical experiments were used to investigate the corrosion behavior. Biocompatibility was evaluated using osteoblast-like SaOS2 cells. The experimental findings reveal that all rolled Mg-2.5Zn-2.0Y-xZr alloys have good ductility and excellent mechanical strength. The rolled alloy's elongation reduces as the zirconium concentration increases. Their tensile strength improve initially with zirconium concentration and afterward does not drop. Each alloy has a high level of biocompatibility. The Mg-2.5Zn-2.0Y-0.6Zr rolled alloy has the maximum mechanical strength, with UTS of 253 Mpa and YS of 83 Mpa. The corrosion resistance of the Mg-2.5Zn-2.0Y-0.6Zr rolled alloy is the best. The hydrogen generation rate is 1.95 ml per (cm2·day), while the corrosion rate is 4.45 mm per year. With its good characteristics, the rolled Mg-2.5Zn-2.0Y-0.6Zr alloy has a lot of promise for use in biological materials.
