Abstract:We show that the total number of non-torsion integral points on the elliptic curves $\mathcal{E}_D:y^2=x^3-D^2x$, where $D$ ranges over positive squarefree integers less than $N$, is $O( N(\log N)^{-1/4+\epsilon})$. The proof involves a discriminant-lowering procedure on integral binary quartic forms and an application of Heath-Brown's method on estimating the average size of the $2$-Selmer group of the curves in this family.

Abstract:This is an exposition of a class of problems and results on the number of integral points close to plane curves. We give a detailed proof of a theorem of Huxley and Sargos, following the account of Bordellès. Along the way we correct an oversight in the proof, changing some of the explicit values of the constants in the theorem.

Abstract:In this paper, based on an ideal of Tian, we establish a new sufficient condition for a positive integer to be a congruent number in terms of Legendre symbols of prime factors of the positive integer. Our criterion generalizes previous criterions of Heegner, and Birch--Stephens, Monsky, and Tian, and conjecturally provides a list of positive density of congruent numbers. Our method of proving our criterion is to give formulae for the analytic Tate--Shafarevich number in terms of the so-called genus periods and genus points. These formulae are derived from the Waldspurger formula and the generalized Gross--Zagier formula of Yuan-Zhang-Zhang.

Abstract:We study integral plane curves meeting at a single unibranch point and show that such curves must satisfy two equivalent conditions. A numeric condition: the local invariants of the curves at the contact point must be arithmetically related. A geometric condition: the tropical curves that we associate to the contact point must be isomorphic. Moreover, we prove closed formulas for the delta-invariant of a unibranch singularity, and for the dimension of the loci of curves with an assigned unibranch point. Our work is motivated by interest in the Lang exceptional set.

Abstract:We extend work of Heath-Brown and Salberger, based on the determinant method, to provide a uniform upper bound for the number of integral points of bounded height on an affine surface, which are subject to a polynomial congruence condition. This is applied to get a new uniform bound for points on diagonal quadric surfaces, and to a problem about the representation of integers as a sum of four unlike powers.

Abstract:In this paper we use an elementary approach by using numerical semigroups (specifically, those with two generators) to give a formula for the number of integral points inside a right-angled triangle with rational vertices. This is the basic case for computing the number of integral points inside a rational (not necessarily convex) polygon.

Abstract:Due to the orbifold singularities, the intersection numbers on the moduli space of curves $\bar{\sM}_{g,n}$ are in general rational numbers rather than integers. We study the properties of the denominators of these intersection numbers and their relationship with the orders of automorphism groups of stable curves. In particular, we prove a conjecture of Itzykson and Zuber. We also present a conjectural multinomial type numerical property for Hodge integrals.

Abstract:By introducing a new point of view in Algebraic Topology relating elliptic curves in $\mathbb{R}^2$ and suitable bordism groups, the congruent number problem is solved showing that the Tunnell's theorem is also sufficient. This could be considered also an indirect proof that the Birch Swinnerton-Dyer conjecture is true.

Abstract:Several discrete geometry problems are closely related to the arithmetic theory of elliptic curves defined on the rational fields ℚ. In this paper we consider the θ-congruent number for θ=π/3 and 2π/3 and tiling number n. For the case that n⩾ 2 is square-free odd integer, we determine all n such that the Selmer rank of elliptic curve E_n,π/3: y^2=x(x-n)(x+3n) or/and E_n,2π/3: y^2=x(x+n)(x-3n) is zero. From this, we provide several series of non θ-congruent numbers for θ=π/3 and 2π/3, and non tiling numbers n with arbitrary many of prime divisors.

Abstract:Under relatively mild and natural conditions, we establish an integral period relations for the (real or imaginary) quadratic base change of an elliptic cusp form. This answers a conjecture of Hida regarding the {\it congruence number} controlling the congruences between this base change and other eigenforms which are not base change. As a corollary, we establish the Bloch-Kato conjecture for adjoint modular Galois representations twisted by an even quadratic character. In the odd case, we formulate a conjecture linking the degree two topological period attached to the base change Bianchi modular form, the cotangent complex of the corresponding Hecke algebra and the archimedean regulator attached to some Beilinson-Flach element.
