Abstract:A method to increase the module efficiency, is the separation of silicon solar cells prior to interconnection. The lower currents per cell lead to lower string currents and less resistive losses. This is also the case in silicon heterojunction (SHJ) cell and module technology. One of the methods to separate is by laser scribing and mechanical cleaving (LSMC). It was known that not mechanical cleaving but laser scribing is a major source of losses during the solar cell separation process. Therefore, the SHJ solar cell separation optimization should focus on the laser scribing process to pursue better performance. Most reported works employed experiments to study the laser scribing influence on solar cell performance, but unfortunately, they suffer from expensive devices, complicated operations, and accuracy uncertainty. To our knowledge, we first designed a finite element model of femtosecond laser scribing on the SHJ solar cells. This numerical model has been proven by experiments and shows its function in numerically evaluating the solar cell performance during laser scribing. Based on the model, we analyze the reasons for the effect of femtosecond laser scribing on the performance of solar cell and explain the phenomenon of a significant reduction in short-circuit current density ( J sc ). Therefore, our numerical femtosecond laser scribing model can be a useful guide for SHJ solar cell separation.
