Abstract:The robust D stability analysis problem for a class of singular systems is considered in this paper. With the introduction of some free matrices, a new necessary and sufficient condition for a singular system to be D stable is proposed in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). This result is extended to the singular systems with polytopic uncertainties and a sufficient condition is obtained for the uncertain singular systems to be robust D stable using the parameter-dependent Lyapunov function method. Numerical example shows the effectiveness of the obtained approach. © 2011 ISSN 1881-803X.

Abstract:In this paper we establish the stability of Jensen's functional equation on some classes of groups. We prove that Jensen equation is stable on noncommutative groups such as metabelian groups and $T(2, K)$, where $K$ is an arbitrary commutative field with characteristic different from two. We also prove that any group $A$ can be embedded into some group $G$ such that the Jensen functional equation is stable on $G$.

Abstract:We show that a large family of groups is uniformly stable relative to unitary groups equipped with submultiplicative norms, such as the operator, Frobenius, and Schatten $p$-norms. These include lamplighters $\Gamma \wr \Lambda$ where $\Lambda$ is infinite and amenable, as well as several groups of dynamical origin such as the classical Thompson groups $F, F', T$ and $V$. We prove this by means of vanishing results in asymptotic cohomology, a theory introduced by the second author, Glebsky, Lubotzky and Monod, which is suitable for studying uniform stability. Along the way, we prove some foundational results in asymptotic cohomology, and use them to prove some hereditary features of Ulam stability. We further discuss metric approximation properties of such groups, taking values in unitary or symmetric groups.

Abstract:We show some preservation results of amenably extending strongly Ulam stable groups under mild decay assumptions, including quantitative preservation of asymptotic bounds under the assumption that the modulus of stability is Hölder continuous of exponent $s>\frac 1 2$ at 0, utilizing some simplistic integral estimates. Additionally, we show some partial results around inductive preservation of modulus bounds in infinite dimensions using these integral estimates as well as strong quantitative preservation in the finite dimensional case, implying the existence of $\mathfrak{U}$ uniformly stable existential closures among groups with sufficiently large Lipschitz estimates of any countable group.

Abstract:We study stability of metric approximations of countable groups with respect to groups endowed with ultrametrics, the main case study being a $p$-adic analogue of Ulam stability, where we take $\mathrm{GL}_n(\mathbb{Z}_p)$ as approximating groups instead of $\mathrm{U}(n)$. For finitely presented groups, the ultrametric nature implies equivalence of the pointwise and uniform stability problems, and the profinite one implies that the corresponding approximation property is equivalent to residual finiteness. Moreover, a group is uniformly stable if and only if its largest residually finite quotient is. We provide several examples of uniformly stable groups, including finite groups, virtually free groups, some groups acting on rooted trees, and certain lamplighter and (Generalized) Baumslag--Solitar groups. We construct a finitely generated group that is not uniformly stable. Finally, we prove and apply a (bounded) cohomological criterion for stability of a finitely presented group.

Abstract:By adopting the direct method and fixed point method, we prove that the Hyers-Ulam stability of the following additive-quadratic functional equation \begin{equation} f(x+y, z+w)+f(x-y, z-w)-2 f(x, z)-2 f(x, w)=0 \end{equation} in $\beta$-homogeneous $F$-spaces and quasi-Banach spaces. There are some differences that we consider the target space with the $\beta$-homogeneous norm and quasi-norm. Overcoming the $\beta$-homogeneous norm and quasi-norm bottlenecks, we get some new results.

Abstract:We give estimates of the remainder terms for several conformally-invariant Sobolev-type inequalities on the Heisenberg group. By considering the variations of associated functionals, we give a stability for two dual inequalities: The fractional Sobolev (FS) and Hardy-Littlewood-Sobolev (HLS) inequalities, in terms of distance to the submanifold of extremizers. Then we compare their remainder terms to improve the inequalities in another way. We also compare, in the limit case, the remainder terms of Beckner-Onofri (BO) inequality and its dual logarithmic Hardy-Littlewood-Sobolev (Log-HLS) inequality. Besides, we also list without proof some results for other groups of Iwasawa-type. Our results generalize earlier works on Euclidean spaces of Chen et al. (2013) and Dolbeault and Jankowiak (2014) onto some groups of Heisenberg-type. We worked for "almost" all fractions especially for comparing results, and the stability of HLS is also absolutely new, even for Euclidean case.

Abstract:Using the error bound results established in the present paper for approximate solutions, we study the stability issues when perturbed by possibly nonaffine smooth maps E for the abstract inequality system F >=(K) 0 defined by a (possible nonclosed) convex cone K and a Frechet differentiable function F satisfying the (extended) weak gamma-condition. We provide some sufficient conditions, in terms of the information at a solution x(0), for ensuring the lower semicontinuity and/or the Lipschitz-like continuity at x(0) of the solution mapping for the perturbed system F + E >=(K) 0 with smooth perturbation E. Explicit upper bounds of the Lipschitz-like moduli are also provided.

Abstract:The problem of delay-dependent robust exponential stability is investigated for uncertain singular systems with stale delay. In terms of linear matrix inequality (LMI) approach, some improved delay-dependent conditions are presented to ensure the considered system to be regular, impulse free and exponentially stable via an augmented Lyapunov functional and tighter integral inequalities. Numerical examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness and the benefits of the proposed methods.

Abstract:Extending the thoroughly studied theory of group stability, we study Ulam stability type problems for associative and Lie algebras; namely, we investigate obstacles to rank-approximation of almost solutions by exact solutions for systems of polynomial equations. This leads to a rich theory of stable associative and Lie algebras, with connections to linear soficity, amenability, growth, and group stability. We develop rank-stability and instability tests, examine the effect of algebraic constructions on rank-stability, and prove that while finite-dimensional associative algebras are rank-stable, `most' finite-dimensional Lie algebras are not.
