Abstract:In this paper, we give discreteness criteria of subgroups of the special linear group on ℚ p or ℂ p in two and higher dimensions. Jørgensen’s inequality gives a necessary condition for a non-elementary group of Möbius transformations to be discrete. We give a version of Jørgensen’s inequality for SL( m ,ℂ p ).

Abstract:In this paper, we prove a sum set estimate and the exact sum set theorem for unimodular Kac algebras. Combining the characterization of minimizers of the Donoso-Stark uncertainty principle and the Hirschman-Beckner uncertainty principle, we characterize the extremal pairs of Young's inequality and extremal operators of the Hausdorff-Young inequality for unimodular Kac algebras.

Abstract:We define the optimal constant $Y ( p_1 , p_2 ; G )$ of Young's convolution inequality as \begin{align} Y ( p_1 , p_2 ; G ) := \sup \{ \| \phi_1 * ( \phi_2 \Delta^{1 / p_1'} ) \|_p \mid \phi_1 , \phi_2 \colon G \to \mathbb{C} , \; \| \phi_1 \|_{p_1} = \| \phi_2 \|_{p_2} = 1 \} \end{align} for a locally compact group $G$ and $1 \leq p_1 , p_2 , p \leq \infty$ with $1 / p_1 + 1 / p_2 = 1 + 1 / p$. Here $p'$ is the Hölder conjugate of $p$, $\| \cdot \|_{ p }$ is the $L^p$-norm on a left Haar measure, and $\Delta \colon G \to \mathbb{R}_{> 0}$ is the modular function. The main result of this paper is that $Y ( p_1 , p_2 ; G ) \leq Y ( p_1 , p_2 ; H )$ for any closed subgroup $H \subset G$. It follows from this inequality that $Y ( p_1 , p_2 ; G ) \leq Y ( p_1 , p_2 ; \mathbb{R} )^{ \dim G - r ( G ) }$ for any connected Lie group $G$ such that the center of the semisimple part is a finite group such as connected linear Lie groups and connected solvable Lie groups, where $r ( G )$ is the dimension of the maximal compact subgroups of $G$.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove the Donoho–Stark uncertainty principle for locally compact quantum groups and characterize the minimizer which are bi-shifts of group-like projections. We also prove the Hirschman–Beckner uncertainty principle for compact quantum groups and discrete quantum groups. Furthermore, we show Hardy's uncertainty principle for locally compact quantum groups in terms of bi-shifts of group-like projections.

Abstract:General extensions of an inequality due to Rogozin, concerning the essential supremum of a convolution of probability density functions on the real line, are obtained. While a weak version of the inequality is proved in the very general context of Polish $\sigma$-compact groups, particular attention is paid to the group $\mathbb{R}^d$, where the result can combined with rearrangement inequalities for certain linear images for a strong generalization. As a consequence, we obtain a unification and sharpening of both the $\infty$-Renyi entropy power inequality for sums of independent random vectors, due to Bobkov and Chistyakov, and the bounds on marginals of projections of product measures due to Rudelson and Vershynin (matching and extending the sharp improvement of Livshyts, Paouris and Pivovarov). The proof is elementary and relies on a characterization of extreme points of a class of probability measures in the general setting of Polish measure spaces, as well as the development of a generalization of Ball's cube slicing bounds for products of $d$-dimensional Euclidean balls (where the "co-dimension 1" case had been recently settled by Brzezinski).

Abstract:In this work, we will introduce and study the notion of local randomness for compact metric groups. We prove a mixing inequality as well as a product result for locally random groups under an additional dimension condition on the volume of small balls and provide several examples of such groups. In particular, this leads to new examples of groups satisfying such a mixing inequality. In the same context, we will develop a Littlewood-Paley decomposition and explore its connection to the existence of the spectral gap for random walks. Moreover, under the dimension condition alone, we will prove a multi-scale entropy gain result `a la Bourgain-Gamburd and Tao.

Some super-Poincaré inequalities for gaussian-like measures on stratified Lie groups

Abstract:We continue the $U$-bound program initiated in [J. Funct. Anal. 258, 814-851 (2010)] and prove super-Poincaré inequalities for a class of subelliptic probability measures defined on Métivier groups, the main ingredient in the proof being a Hardy-type inequality. In doing so, we recover and extend some previous results from the probabilistic viewpoint.

Abstract:In this paper we complete in several aspects the picture of locally compact quantum groups. First of all we give a definition of a locally compact quantum group in the von Neumann algebraic setting and show how to deduce from it a $C^*$-algebraic quantum group. Further we prove several results about locally compact quantum groups which are important for applications, but were not yet settled in our paper [8]. We prove a serious strengthening of the left invariance of the Haar weight, and we give several formulas connecting the locally compact quantum group with its dual. Loosely speaking we show how the antipode of the locally compact quantum group determines the modular group and modular conjugation of the dual locally compact quantum group.

Abstract:In this paper, we give an analogue of Jorgensen's inequality for non-elementary groups of isometries of quaternionic hyperbolic space generated by two elements, one of which is elliptic. As an application, we obtain an analogue of Jorgensen's inequality in 2-dimensional Mobius group of the above case.

Abstract:In this paper, we review some recent works on sharp fractional inequalities on nilpotent Lie groups, studying their sharp constants, extremizers, stability and other improvements. We also prove a new sharp subcritical inequality in Section sub . The conformal symmetry, compactness, spectral estimates and flow methods are discussed. We remark that a positivity-type restriction on the singular exponent is required in cases for groups with high dimensional centres, which brings extra difficulty.

Abstract:We study noncommutative maximal inequalities and ergodic theorems for group actions on von Neumann algebras. Consider a locally compact group G of polynomial growth with a symmetric compact subset V. Let alpha be a continuous action of G on a von Neumann algebra M by trace-preserving automorphisms. We then show that the operators defined by A(n)x = 1/m(V-n) integral(Vn) alpha(g)xdm(g), x is an element of L-p(M), n is an element of N, 1 <= p <= infinity, are of weak type (1, 1) and of strong type (p, p) for 1 < p < infinity. Consequently, the sequence (A(n)x)(n >= 1) converges almost uniformly for x is an element of L-p(M) for 1 <= p < infinity. Also, we establish the noncommutative maximal and individual ergodic theorems associated with more general doubling conditions, and we prove the corresponding results for general actions on one fixed noncommutative Lp-space which are beyond the class of Dunford-Schwartz operators considered previously by Junge and Xu. As key ingredients, we also obtain the Hardy-Littlewood maximal inequality on metric spaces with doubling measures in the operator-valued setting. After the groundbreaking work of Junge and Xu on the noncommutative Dunford-Schwartz maximal ergodic inequalities, this is the first time that more general maximal inequalities are proved beyond Junge and Xu's setting. Our approach is based on quantum probabilistic methods as well as random-walk theory.
Remainder Terms for Several Inequalities on Some Groups of Heisenberg-type

Abstract:We give estimates of the remainder terms for several conformally-invariant Sobolev-type inequalities on the Heisenberg group. By considering the variations of associated functionals, we give a stability for two dual inequalities: The fractional Sobolev (FS) and Hardy-Littlewood-Sobolev (HLS) inequalities, in terms of distance to the submanifold of extremizers. Then we compare their remainder terms to improve the inequalities in another way. We also compare, in the limit case, the remainder terms of Beckner-Onofri (BO) inequality and its dual logarithmic Hardy-Littlewood-Sobolev (Log-HLS) inequality. Besides, we also list without proof some results for other groups of Iwasawa-type. Our results generalize earlier works on Euclidean spaces of Chen et al. (2013) and Dolbeault and Jankowiak (2014) onto some groups of Heisenberg-type. We worked for "almost" all fractions especially for comparing results, and the stability of HLS is also absolutely new, even for Euclidean case.

Abstract:In this paper, we present a new proof for a well-known inequality, conjectured by Zassenhaus in 1947 and proved independently by Groemer in 1960 and Oler in 1961. The inequality gives an upper bound for the number of nonoverlapping unit discs whose centers can be packed into a compact convex region, and recently obtains a lot of applications in study of sensor networks.

Abstract:We prove universal inequalities for Laplacian eigenvalues with Dirichlet boundary conditions on subsets of certain discrete groups. The study of universal inequalities on Riemannian manifolds was initiated by Weyl, Polya, Yau, and others. Here we focus on a version by Cheng and Yang. Specifically, we prove Yang-type universal inequalities for Cayley graphs of finitely generated amenable groups, as well as for the d-regular tree (simple random walk on the free group).

Abstract:As a sequel to our recent work on Casselman--Shahidi's holomorphicity conjecture on half-normalized intertwining operators for quasi-split classical groups, we modify our method, based on a lemma of Heiermann--Opdam, to prove certain cases of the conjecture for groups of exceptional type uniformly. One main ingredient, established here, is to find an algorithm to produce reduced decompositions of co-rank one relative longest Weyl elements, in terms of certain "small" counterparts.

Abstract:The study of Khintchin inequalities has a long history in abstract harmonic analysis. While there is almost no possibility of non-trivial Khintchine inequality for central Fourier series on compact connected semisimple Lie groups, we demonstrate a strong contrast within the framework of compact quantum groups. Specifically, we establish a Khintchine inequality with operator coefficients for arbitrary central Fourier series in a large class of non-Kac compact quantum groups. The main examples include the Drinfeld-Jimbo $q$-deformations $G_q$, the free orthogonal quantum groups $O_F^+$, and the quantum automorphism group $G_{aut}(B,\psi)$ with a $\delta$-form $\psi$.
