Abstract:Diesel engines generate a large number of particulate matter (PM) emissions under. cold start condition, and aftertreatment systems do not operate effectively due to low temperatures during cold start conditions. However, the burner can generate high-temperature gas capable of activating the catalyst. In this study, the combustion and temperature characteristics of an aftertreatment diesel burner were investigated under different injection parameters. Subsequently, the characteristics of the burner outlet temperature were compared, and the factors influencing their differences under cold start and warm-up conditions were revealed. Results show that there is a significant difference in burner outlet temperatures between cold start and warm-up conditions. The highest outlet temperature occurs when the air-fuel ratio (AFR) is 3.78 during cold start conditions, whereas it is only 2.83 during warm-up conditions. It is worth noting that the injection frequency has a more significant effect on the burner outlet temperatures compared to the duty cycle. The maximum difference in center temperatures is approximately 45 degrees C for different injection frequencies, whereas it is only about 25 degrees C for different duty cycles. Additionally, the burner combustion was more effective at an injection frequency of 5 Hz and a duty cycle of 20 % under warm-up conditions. These findings not only show the variation in burner combustion characteristics under the conditions of cold-start and warm-up, but also allows the particulate filter to operate in optimal conditions in these two situations. These findings effectively avoid the DPF damage during regeneration and provide guidance for the design of fuel injection control strategies for burners DPF regeneration systems.
