Abstract:Iodohydroxylation reaction of allenyl phenyl sulfoxides with I-2 can smoothly proceed to generate (E)-2-iodo-3-hydroxy-1-alkenyl sulfoxides with excellent regio- and stereoselectivity in high or excellent yields. The configuration of E-2a was determined by the X-ray diffraction study.

Abstract:Z-selectivity was observed for iodohydroxylation of Se-substituted allenes with I2 and H2O, which is opposite to that of 1,2-allenyl sulfoxides. With n-hexane as the co-solvent Z-iodoamination leading to N-(3-organoseleno-2-iodo-2(Z)-propenyl)acetamide was observed. A brief rational for the stereoselectivity of this reaction is provided.

Abstract:The iodohydroxylation of 1,2-allenyl sulfoxides with 1, in the presence of BnSH affords 3-hydroxy-2-iodo-2(E)-alkenyl Sulfides in good yields and selectivities. The stereochemistry for the products of this transformation is opposite to what was obtained from the iodohydroxylation of 1,2-allenyl Sulfides. Abstract:A highly regioselective iodosulfonylation of allenes in the presence of CuI and 1,10-phenanthroline has been developed for the synthesis of various useful ( E)-α-iodomethyl vinylsulfones in moderate to excellent yields. This practical reaction is fast, operationally simple, and in particular, proceeds under very mild conditions to afford the target products with high regio- and stereoselectivity. The selectivity was illustrated by a conceptual DFT analysis.

Abstract:The iodohydroxylation of 1,2-allenyl sulfoxides with iodine in the presence of benzyl thiol afforded 3-hydroxy-2-iodo-2(E)-alkenyl sulfides in good yields and high regio- and stereoselectivities. In this reaction it was observed that the sulfoxide functionality was reduced to sulfide and the water in the reaction mixture plays an important role for the stereoselectivity observed. A mechanism involving the attack of benzyl thiol at the positively charged sulfur atom in the five-membered intermediate 2 has been proposed.

Abstract:In this paper, an efficient way to synthesize 2-(1'(Z)-iodoalkenyl)tetrahydrofurans from 4,5-alkadienols and 12 was developed. The reaction of the 4,5-allenols with a substituent in the 3-position afforded the trans-2,3-disubstituted tetrahydrofurans with very high diastereoselectivity. However, when the axially optically active 4,5-allenol was treated with 12 in n-hexane, the efficiency for chirality transfer was low. This problem was circumvented by conducting the reaction in CH2Cl2 at room temperature and applying N-iodosuccinimide as the electrophilic reagent; however, the Z/E ratio for the products is much lower. Highly optically active Z-products may be prepared via the kinetic resolution via a Sonogashira coupling reaction with propargyl alcohol.

Abstract:It was observed that the halohydroxylation of 1,2-allenyl sulfides or selenides with Br-2 (CuBr2 or NBS) or I-2 and water demonstrated a fairly good regioselectivity (i.e., the C=C bond that is remote from the S or Se atom was halohydroxylated with the halogen atom connecting to the middle carbon atom and the hydroxyl group connecting to the non-S terminal carbon or Se-substituted terminal carbon atom of the allene moiety), leading to the synthesis of synthetically important 3-organosulfur or seleno-2-haloallylic alcohols. The stereoselectivity depends on the nature of X+ and S or Se, showing a Z-selectivity with the matched Lewis acid-base pair.
