Abstract:An oxazoline aminoisopropylpyridine (OAP) was designed and synthesized for cobalt-catalyzed asymmetric hydroboration of sterically hindered styrenes. A unique dual-stereocontrol phenomenon was observed using a rigid OIP-CoCI, complex or a flexible OAP with CoCl2 as precatalysts, respectively. The reaction could be easily carried out on a gram scale to afford chiral alkylboronic esters which could be converted into diverse C-X (X = C, N, O) bond cross-coupling products. The mechanistically distinct pathways were proposed on the basis of deuterium experiments.

Abstract:A highly stereoselective iodolactonization of alkylidenecyclopropyl esters with iodine or N-iodosuccinimide (NIS) in aqueous CH3CN to afford 4,5-trans-1,5-cis-3-oxabicyclo-[3.1.0]hexane-2ones is described. The reaction is very general, accommodating a wide range of substituents. A plausible mechanism that explains the essential role of water in this reaction is proposed.

Abstract:The reactions of 4-mono- or 4-unsubstituted 2,3-alkadienamides with CuX2 afforded 5-hydroxypyrTol-2(5H)-ones via the sequential lactamization and gamma-hydroxylation process in aqueous THF while those of 4,4-disubstituted 2,3-alkadienamides with CuX2 in THF afforded iminolactones in high yields. Iodoiminolactonization and iodolactamization/gamma-hydroxylation were achieved by the corresponding reaction with I-2 in THF at rt. The structures of the products depend on the steric hindrance at the 4-position of the starting allenamides. Relatively electron-rich allenes afforded the corresponding products in much higher yields under milder reaction conditions implying the intramolecular electrophilic nature of the cyclization reaction. Abstract:A highly regioselective synthesis of 15-20-membered macrocycles via Pd(0)-catalyzed coupling cyclization of allenes bearing a carbon or nitrogen nucleophilic functionality and organic iodides is reported. After oxidative addition and carbopalladation, anti--allyl palladium intermediates were formed, which was followed by the exclusive intramolecular nucleophilic attack at the terminal carbon atom of the allene moiety to afford products with yields ranging from 44-92% and E/Z ratios of up to 97/3.
