Abstract:In this paper, the full compressible Navier‐Stokes equations with Cattaneo's heat transfer law or revised Maxwell's law are considered. We present a loss of initial smoothness of smooth solutions within a finite time and give an upper bound of such time. It is not required that the initial data has compact support or contains vacuum in any finite regions. Moreover, the blow‐up result has no restriction about the specific heat ratio. The main approach is motivated by previous studies and constructing a differential inequality.

Abstract:Numerical simulation and theoretical investigation of fluid flow and heat transfer in porous media/fluid coupled areas have been widely studied in recent years. Few researches are focused on compressible gas flow in porous media/fluid coupled areas. The unified governing equations for the fluid and porous media are used to describe the compressible flow in porous media/fluid coupled areas. A method to decide the source terms for flow in porous media is also presented. As an example, a detailed numerical simulation of compressible gas flow in a straight round pipe with porous media/fluid coupled areas and backward-facing and forward-facing steps are carried out and the computational results coincide with the experimental data.

Abstract:The authors establish a blow-up criterion of the strong solutions to the compressible liquid crystals equations in terms of the gradient of the velocity only,similar to Beale-Kato-Majda criterion for the ideal incompressible flows and the criterion obtained by Huang and Xin for the compressible Navier-Stokes equations.The energy law and a higher order energy inequality will be employed to prove this criterion.The main difficulty comes from the vacuum at the initial time.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the blow-up and/or global existence of the following porous medium equation with variable source power, u t =Δ u m + u p ( x ) , in Ω×(0, T ), where Ω is either a bounded domain or the whole space R N , and p ( x ) is a positive and continuous bounded function defined in Ω satisfying 0 p - =inf p ( x )≤ p ( x )≤ p + =sup p ( x ) p ( x ) and the structure of spatial domain Ω. Roughly speaking, for the Cauchy problem, if p ( x )≤1, uniqueness of the solutions might not hold, and all nontrivial solutions exist globally. If p + > m , there are blow-up solutions. If 1 p ( x )≤ m +2/ N , every nontrivial solution blows up. If p ( x )> m +2/ N , there exist nontrivial global solutions. When p - m +2/ N , the examples we constructed suggest that for some p ( x ) all nontrivial solutions blow up and for others there exist global solutions. The situation is totally different in bounded domains. There is only one critical exponent p = m , while there are three factors, p ( x ); m and properties of the domain, interacting with each other. If p + > m , there are blow-up solutions as in R N . If p + m , all solutions exist globally in time. If p ( x )> m or the domain is small enough, there are global solutions. The most interesting part is that for some p ( x ) satisfying p - m p + , we find the Fujita phenomenon in the bounded domain.

Abstract:It is shown that the one-dimensional or two-dimensional radially symmetric isothermal compressible Navier-Stokes system has no non-trivial global smooth solutions if the initial density is compactly supported. Abstract:We show the existence of global weak solutions to the three-dimensional compressible primitive equations of atmospheric dynamics with degenerate viscosities. In analogy with the case of the compressible Navier-Stokes equations, the weak solutions satisfy the basic energy inequality, the Bresh-Desjardins entropy inequality and the Mellet-Vasseur estimate. These estimates play an important role in establishing the compactness of the vertical velocity of the approximating solutions, and therefore are essential to recover the vertical velocity in the weak solutions.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the positive solution of nonlinear nonlocal porous medium equation ut−Δum = aup ∝Ω uqdx with homogeneous Dirichlet boundary condition and positive initial value u0(x), where m > 1, p, q ≥ 0. Under appropriate hypotheses, we establish the local existence and uniqueness of a positive classical solution, and obtain that the solution either exists globally or blows up in finite time by utilizing sub and super solution techniques. Furthermore, we yield the blow-up rate, i.e., there exist two positive constants C1, C2 such that where p+q > m > 1, T∗ is the blow-up time of u(x,t).

Abstract:The present paper investigates the global stability of large solutions to the compressible Navier–Stokes equations in the whole space. Our main results and innovations can be stated as follows: Under the assumption that the density ρ (t,x) verifies ρ (0,x)≥ c>0 and sup _t≥ 0‖ρ (t)‖ _C^α≤ M with α arbitrarily small, we establish a new approach for the convergence of the solutions to its associated equilibrium with an explicit decay rate which is the same as that for the heat equation. The main idea of the proof relies on the basic energy identity, techniques from blow-up criterion and a new estimate for the low frequency part of the solutions. We prove the global-in-time stability for the equations, i.e, any perturbed solutions will remain close to the reference solutions if initially they are close to one another. This implies that the set of the smooth and bounded solutions is open. Inspired by Paicu and Zhang (J Funct Anal 262(8):3556–3584, 2012 ), we construct global large solutions to the equations with a class of initial data which are in L^p type critical spaces and far away from equilibrium. Here, “large solutions” means that the vertical component of the incompressible part of the velocity could be arbitrarily large.

Abstract:The compressible Navier-Stokes-Smoluchowski equations under investigation concern the behavior of the mixture of fluid and particles at a macroscopic scale. We devote to the existence of the global classical solution near the stationary solution based on the energy method under weaker conditions imposed on the external potential compared with Chen et al. (Global existence and time–decay estimates of solutions to the compressible Navier-Stokes-Smoluchowski equations, Discrete Contin. Dyn. Syst. 36 (2016), no. 10, 5287–5307). Under further assumptions that the stationary solution ( ρ s ( x ) , 0 , 0 ) T is in a small neighborhood of the constant state ( ρ ̄ , 0 , 0 ) T at infinity, we also obtain the time decay rates of the solution by the combination of the energy method and the linear L p - L q decay estimates.

Abstract:We consider the initial-boundary value problem for the system of equations describing the flow of compressible isothermal mixture of arbitrary large number of components. The system consists of the compressible Navier-Stokes equations and a subsystem of diffusion equations for the species. The subsystems are coupled by the form of the pressure and the strong cross-diffusion effects in the diffusion fluxes of the species. Assuming the existence of solutions to the symmetrized and linearized equations, proven in [35], we derive the estimates for the nonlinear equations and prove the local-in-time existence and maximal $L_p-L_q$ regularity of solutions.

Abstract:This paper considers an initial-boundary value problem of compressible Navier-Stokes equations with a supersonic physical boundary in two dimensions.Given a constant equilibrium state(ρ~*,O),the authors construct the global existence of solutions.By using weighted energy estimates,it is shown that the solution converges to the equilibrium state with an exponential rate when the perturbations are sufficiently small.

Abstract:This paper studies the global well-posedness of classical solutions to the isentropic compressible Navier-Stokes equations in 3D domains D under non-slip boundary conditions. D will separate into the inner and boundary parts along a free surface: In the inner part, the density is allowed to vanish and the gradient of it grows with an exponential rate when vacuum appears initially; while in the boundary part, no vacuum forms and the higher order derivatives of the density remain uniformly bounded. We utilize the Lagrangian coordinates introduced by Christodoulou-Lindblad to study such dichotomy.
