Abstract:In this paper, we establish a blow-up criterion for the compressible liquid crystals equations in terms of the gradient of the velocity only, similar to the Beale-Kato-Majda criterion \cite{majda} for ideal incompressible flows and the criterion obtained by Huang and Xin \cite{xin2} for the compressible Navier-Stokes equations.

Abstract:The authors establish a blow-up criterion of the strong solutions to the compressible liquid crystals equations in terms of the gradient of the velocity only,similar to Beale-Kato-Majda criterion for the ideal incompressible flows and the criterion obtained by Huang and Xin for the compressible Navier-Stokes equations.The energy law and a higher order energy inequality will be employed to prove this criterion.The main difficulty comes from the vacuum at the initial time.

Abstract:We prove a blow-up criterion in terms of the upper bound of the density for the strong solution to the 3-D compressible Navier-Stokes equations. The initial vacuum is allowed. The main ingredient of the proof is \textit{a priori} estimate for an important quantity under the assumption that the density is upper bounded, whose divergence can be viewed as the effective viscous flux.

Abstract:We investigate the blowup criterion of the barotropic compressible viscous fluids for the Cauchy problem, Dirichlet problem and Navier-slip boundary condition. The main novelty of this paper is two-fold: First, for the Cauchy problem and Dirichlet problem, we prove that a strong or smooth solution exists globally, provided that the vorticity of velocity satisfies Serrin's condition and the maximum norm of the divergence of the velocity is bounded. Second, for the Navier-slip boundary condition, we show that if both the maximum norm of the vorticity of velocity and the maximum norm of the divergence of velocity are bounded, then the solution exists globally. In particular, this criterion extends the well-known Beale-Kato-Majda's blowup criterion for the 3D incompressible Euler equations (Comm. Math. Phys. 94(1984):61-66) to the 3D barotropic compressible Navier-Stokes equations, and can be regarded as a complement for the work by Huang-Li-Xin (Comm. Math. Phys. 301(2011):23-35). The vacuum is allowed to exist here.

Abstract:This work is devoted to establish an improved blow-up criterion for strong solutions to a three-dimensional compressible non-Newtonian fluid with vacuum. The considered system is the Power Law model in a bounded periodic domain in R^3.We establish a blow-up criterion for the local strong solutions in terms of the L^4(0,T;L^{\infty}({\Omega}))norm of the gradient of the velocity for any power-law index q is greater than 1.

Abstract:In this paper, the full compressible Navier‐Stokes equations with Cattaneo's heat transfer law or revised Maxwell's law are considered. We present a loss of initial smoothness of smooth solutions within a finite time and give an upper bound of such time. It is not required that the initial data has compact support or contains vacuum in any finite regions. Moreover, the blow‐up result has no restriction about the specific heat ratio. The main approach is motivated by previous studies and constructing a differential inequality.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate a blow-up criterion for compressible magnetohydrodynamic equations. It is shown that if density and velocity satisfy (∥ρ∥L∞(0,T;L∞)+∥u∥C([0,T];L3)<∞), then the strong solutions to isentropic magnetohydrodynamic equations can exist globally over [0,T]. Notably, our analysis accommodates the presence of an initial vacuum.

Abstract:We investigate compressible nematic liquid crystal flows in three-dimensional (3D) bounded domains with slip boundary condition for velocity and Neumann boundary condition for orientation field. By applying piecewise-estimate method and delicate analysis based on the effective viscous flux and vorticity, we derive the global existence and uniqueness of strong solutions provided that the initial total energy is suitably small. Our result is an extension of the works of Huang-Wang-Wen (J. Differential Equations 252: 2222-2265, 2012) and Li-Xu-Zhang (J. Math. Fluid Mech. 20: 2105-2145, 2018), where the local strong solutions in three dimensions and the global strong solutions for 3D Cauchy problem were established, respectively. Moreover, it also shows that blow up mechanism for local strong solutions obtained by Huang-Wang-Wen (Arch. Ration. Mech. Anal. 204: 285-311, 2012) cannot occur if the initial total energy is sufficiently small.

Abstract:This paper establishes a blowup criterion for the three-dimensional viscous, compressible, and heat conducting magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) flows. It is essentially shown that for the Cauchy problem and the initial-boundary-value one of the three-dimensional compressible MHD flows with initial density allowed to vanish, the strong or smooth solution exists globally if the density is bounded from above and the velocity satisfies the Serrin's condition. Therefore, if the Serrin norm of the velocity remains bounded, it is not possible for other kinds of singularities (such as vacuum states vanish or vacuum appears in the non-vacuum region or even milder singularities) to form before the density becomes unbounded. This criterion is analogous to the well-known Serrin's blowup criterion for the three-dimensional incompressible Navier-Stokes equations, in particular, it is independent of the temperature and magnetic field and is just the same as that of the barotropic compressible Navier-Stokes equations. As a direct application, it is shown that the same result also holds for the strong or smooth solutions to the three-dimensional full compressible Navier-Stokes system describing the motion of a viscous, compressible, and heat conducting fluid.
