Abstract:Based on a comparison of the education system and education philosophy in schools of electronic information in German and Chinese universities of science and engineering,the essay analyzes the difference of present education system in evaluation system,management system,practice and application.By making full use of the successful teaching experience in Germany,the present author puts forward some suggestions on teaching system,philosophy and other aspects,shedding light on domestic educational reform of the specialty,and a new educational system which takes students as the main body.

Abstract:U.S.News & World Report ranking of graduate schools is an important part of its university ranking. Indexes,data sources and the statistical method of graduate schools ranking are based on the characters of graduate schools,which are scientific and operable;Graduate schools ranking appearance in China is late and the ranking methodology is from other countries.Though we also focus on the characters of graduate schools in China, ranking indexes,data sources and the characters of different graduate schools are inferior to the methodology of U.S.News & World Report ranking of graduate schools.Consequently,we should focus on the relationship between the particularity of graduate schools and the ranking methodology in order to achieve the localization of ranking methodology.

Abstract:With the pushing forward of higher education globalization,international university evaluation is showing its role of practical orientation increasingly.“Academic Ranking of World University”,“World University Ranking” and “International University Innovative Competence Ranking” are very influential in China.Each evaluation objective,norm and parameter designing has their characteristics.Some of the evaluation results are the same and others are different.With the development of higher education globalization,international university evaluation is important reference value and realistic significance because it can offer information about school running for different groups.The future international university evaluation should gradually sum up the experience and continuously perfect evaluation theory so as to promote university construction.

Abstract:Pressured by globalization and the increasing demand for public organisations to be accountable, efficient and transparent, university rankings have become an important tool for assessing the quality of higher education institutions. It is therefore important to carefully assess exactly what these rankings measure. In this paper, the three major global university rankings, The Academic Ranking of World Universities, The Times Higher Education and the Quacquarelli Symonds World University Rankings, are studied. After a description of the ranking methodologies, it is shown that university rankings are stable over time but that there is variation between the three rankings. Furthermore, using Principal Component Analysis and Exploratory Factor Analysis, we show that the variables used to construct the rankings primarily measure two underlying factors: a universities reputation and its research performance. By correlating these factors and plotting regional aggregates of universities on the two factors, differences between the rankings are made visible. Last, we elaborate how the results from these analysis can be viewed in light of often voiced critiques of the ranking process. This indicates that the variables used by the rankings might not capture the concepts they claim to measure. Doing so the study provides evidence of the ambiguous nature of university ranking's quantification of university performance.

Abstract:The intention of this article is to introduce the indicator,methodology and the overall and the faculty level results of the World High Impact University Ranking in Australia.Specially,we also introduce the ranking results of Chinese university,and then compare these with the results of the Shanghai Jiao Tong University-Academic Ranking of Worldwide Universities(SJTU-ARWU),Times Higher Education Supplement World University Ranking(THES),and The U.S.News World Report's World's Best Universities Rankings.The preliminary conclusions indicate that the methodology is simple and transparent in formulation,and based solely on measurable outputs.The assessment criteria are relevant,objective and timely.The methodology produces scores that are easily understood and physically meaningful,provides separate assessments for the different faculties,and produces a balanced overall assessment by equally accounting for all faculties.In particular,the assessment of universities at the faculty level can provide useful indications into faculty specific research impact,while the overall index appears to provide reasonable indications of all round research impact,at least for the so called comprehensive universities.

Abstract:Although many methods have been designed for ranking universities, there is no suitable system that focuses on the ranking of countries based on the performance of their universities. The overall ranking of the universities in a region can indicate the growth of interests in science among the people of that land. This paper introduces a novel ranking mechanism based on the rankings of universities. Firstly, we introduce and discuss two new rankings of countries, based on the rank of their universities. Secondly, we create rankings of countries according to the selected method, based on the top 12000 universities in <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://webometrics.info" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a> (January 2012) and compare rankings of countries in 4 editions (January 2012 to July 2013). Firstly, we introduce two new methods of ranking countries based on their university rankings, Weighted Ranking (WR) and Average Ranking (AR). Secondly, we discuss how the introduced ranking systems, perform in ranking countries based on the two years of data. Thirdly, we choose QS (<a class="link-external link-http" href="http://www.topuniversities.com" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a>) and <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://webometrics.info" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a> as two different classification systems for comparing rankings of countries, based on the top 500 universities in these rankings. Results indicate that the methodology can be used to show the quality of the whole universities of each country used to compare rankings of countries in practice compare to other countries in the world.

Abstract:National and international rankings of institutional performance are playing a growing role in contemporary higher education. It is critical that researchers develop pragmatic, educationally sensitive and methodologically informed approaches for managing this aspect of higher education. This paper compares three approaches for modelling key indicators which underpin a national evaluation of university education in Australia: rankings of aggregate institutional performance; comparisons of institutional change over time; and performance variations within fields of education. The results show that simple institution-level aggregations are misleading, and that contemporary analytical methods must be used to account for the influence of fields of education. More broadly, the findings expose the need for a more robust methodological development of university rankings.

Abstract:University rankings are a convenient argument,because the higher education institutions are not equivalent to univer-sities.These rankings feature at different angles,based on various indicators,and the results are also different,but they are common that the research is used as a core indicator.Under the driving of rankings,many higher education systems around the world get the impulse to build a few world-class universities,and even more serious is leading to the "academic arms race".And it result in many adverse consequences,such as convergence of universities,waste of educational resources,dislocation of knowledge and social needs.Ellen Hazelkorn keenly points out the defects of current rankings based on the perspective of university's entrepreneurship transition and strategic development of higher education,and sets the idea of focusing on creating a world-class(university) system rather than building a number of world-class universities.There is an important value to establish the scientific concept of development and cor-rect the blind impulse of educating for all kinds of higher education institutions.

Abstract:Under the background of global economy,higher education is becoming a market,which is oriented to market demand.University-Ranking is convenient for consumers to get more transparent and effective information as well as compare them.With the fierce competition of knowledge economy and globalization development,university-ranking developed into global ranking.This paper introduces three global university rankings which are widely spread at present——Academic Ranking of World Universities,QS World University Rankings,THE World University Rankings.By analyzing the differences between university-ranking and university-assessment,it expounds the former as a "trademark" or "brand" of the market.Moreover,global university ranking is beneficial for the higher education quality assurance,but inappropriate index design and the blind chase of "world class universities" may result in misleading or impeding for strategic development of each country's higher education quality.

Abstract:Global university rankings have reshaped the landscape of higher education (HE) across various parts of the globe. The intensified competition stirred by these rankings has significantly affected academic lifestyles. The quest for global university rankings has also inevitably increased the degree of homogenisation amongst universities. Given the negative impact of global university rankings on university development, these rankings have been criticised as game playing, whilst some countries and institutions are beginning to withdraw themselves from the competition. This article sets out against the above context to review Chinese government's response to the challenges and its policy changes. Findings suggest policy responses occur very differently in different areas. Instead of simply following the rules and criteria set by global university rankings, China is trying to set its own criteria. This article contributes to the theoretical and practical understanding of China's responses to the global rankings.

Abstract:The dramatic increase in the number of students enrolled in higher education programs outside their country of citizenship during the last half-century has created a huge demand for study abroad-related information circulation. Nonetheless, media nowadays attempts to break information barriers by gathering and processing data from multiple sources, mainly focusing on university academic competency. Although important, academic competency cannot represent international students’ overall quality of life when spending their time in unfamiliar foreign cities. This research is designed to provide solutions to the problem from another perspective Utilizing the Multiple Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) method to evaluate international study destinations through various dimensions comprehensively. The research integrates various aspects such as economic development, culture inclusiveness, and personal safety into account. It then adopts the Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) to obtain a detailed index for each destination in the rank. Our work-Global Ranking of Study Destination (GRSD) by cities, is accomplished to contribute to the international student community. With a ranking system that considers vital facets of life in certain cities, prospective international students can make assessments and decisions better for their future.

Abstract:Abstract Purpose Building on Leydesdorff, Bornmann, and Mingers (2019), we elaborate the differences between Tsinghua and Zhejiang University as an empirical example. We address the question of whether differences are statistically significant in the rankings of Chinese universities. We propose methods for measuring statistical significance among different universities within or among countries. Design/methodology/approach Based on z -testing and overlapping confidence intervals, and using data about 205 Chinese universities included in the Leiden Rankings 2020, we argue that three main groups of Chinese research universities can be distinguished (low, middle, and high). Findings When the sample of 205 Chinese universities is merged with the 197 US universities included in Leiden Rankings 2020, the results similarly indicate three main groups: low, middle, and high. Using this data (Leiden Rankings and Web of Science), the z -scores of the Chinese universities are significantly below those of the US universities albeit with some overlap. Research limitations We show empirically that differences in ranking may be due to changes in the data, the models, or the modeling effects on the data. The scientometric groupings are not always stable when we use different methods. Practical implications Differences among universities can be tested for their statistical significance. The statistics relativize the values of decimals in the rankings. One can operate with a scheme of low/middle/high in policy debates and leave the more fine-grained rankings of individual universities to operational management and local settings. Originality/value In the discussion about the rankings of universities, the question of whether differences are statistically significant, has, in our opinion, insufficiently been addressed in research evaluations.
