Abstract:The difficulties in the construction of Pingtan strait hi-rail bridge come from its large scale, long life cycle, diverse ocean environment with deep water, strong wind, exposed granite and heavy sea water corrosion. In view of the different geological conditions and water depth, detailed classification of trestle bridge is employed and researches and analyses are conducted to define design parameters so as to provide references for the design of the substructure of such trestle bridges in similar water areas.

Abstract:Owing to the harsh natural conditions and complex geology at the site of the Pingtan Straits Rail‐cum‐Road Bridge ,the foundations of the bridge were decided to be constructed by the scheme of the construction platforms by the aid of the long trestle so that the construction of the foundations over the sea could be shifted onto the trestle and platforms .In regard of the design dif‐ficulties of the trestle ,the load combination and design principles for the trestle were formulated and the structure of the trestle was hence designed according to the different water depth and geo‐logical conditions .The trestle is totally 7 .49 km long and 8 .5 m wide .In the area of the water depth ≤35 m ,the foundations of the trestle are the steel pipe piles w hile in the area of the 35 m<water depth≤45 m ,the foundations are the structures of the "jackets+ support piles".For the trestle over the area of the water depth ≤18 m ,the span arrangement of the trestle is 9 m+15 m , the superstructure of the part of the trestle is the Bailey truss and the diameters of the steel pipe pipes are 1 .2 m .For the trestle over the area of the water depth >18 m ,the span arrangement of the trestle is 12 m+32 (28) m or 12 m+36 m .The superstructure of the part of the trestle is the T russ No .1 used for the permanent bridge and the diameters of the steel pipe pipes are 1 .5 ,2 and 2 .4 m .To provide solution to the durability of the trestle in the marine environment ,the corrosion protection of the combined sacrificial protection layers of the steel pipe pile walls and the exterior coating of the piles was designed .

Abstract:Pingtan Strait combined highway and railway bridge is the first cross-sea hi/rail bridge in China.In the sea area where the bridge is located with strong wind,high waves,deep water,rip current and apparent tides.In addition,the rock surface inclination fluctuates greatly,exposed rock/hard rock spreads extensively,meteorological,hydrological and geological conditions are all very complicated,especially in the sea area where the bridge is located with huge wave-current force,and all these make the design and construction of the bridge substructure unexpectedly difficult.In order to solve the wind/wave action and ship impacting force action when navigation is proceeding,multi-innovative technologies are adopted during foundation design and construction of three large-span navigable cable-stayed bridges,and drilled piles of 4.5 m diameter are used for the first time.Type KTY 5000 power head drilling machine and relevant pile-driving equipment are studied and developed to solve the problems in drilled piles construction in complicated sea areas.Construction platforms supported by jackets frames are built in some deep water exposed rock areas to overcome the wave force action.In order to adapt to the unique environment in the bridge location,dumb-bell type high pile caps are used on the main tower pier caps of the three large-span cable-stayed bridges to allow the cap top above high tide level.During cap construction,the main body anti-collision structure is integrated with construction cofferdam and the permanent structure is combined with the temporary structure,which not only save materials,but also reduce construction safety risks.The large scale collision protection box cofferdam is manufactured completely in plant and handled wholly to fulfill modular and standardized construction.Innovative technology of concreting without bottom cover is applied in dumb-bell type cap beam construction.

Abstract:Along with the quick development of the material,mathematics and mechanics science in the period from the 18th to the 19th centuries,the modern bridges in the period manifested themselves the varieties of new types.A collection of long span elevated railway bridges,suspension bridges and steel bridges mainly used with iron and steel materials and supported by the principles of the modern mechanics were gradually developed and came to maturity.In this paper,through the presentation of some typical modern bridges or the bridges that have milestone significance,the major achievements of the development of the bridges in the world,particularly the bridges in Euro-American countries,are described.These bridges have left the world valuable cultural heritage that are worth to be studied by the Chinese bridge designers and engineers and with reference to the bridges,it is expected that more bridges that have distinctive features can be designed and the still better future of bridges can be created.

Abstract:The Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macao Bridge (HZMB) located at the Pearl River Estuary on the south coast of China, links Hong Kong in the east with Zhuhai-Macao in the west with a total length of 55 km; It is the longest sea-crossing made of artificial island, immersed tunnel and steel bridge in the world, and was opened to traffic in October 2018. The environment where HZMB located is almost the most severe subtropical marine corrosive environments in China, the durability, maintenance and operation are undoubtedly amongst the major work of this project. In the view of the prominence of this bridge, it is a huge challenge for the engineers to achieve this. This paper describes the durability and integrated structure health monitoring system of HZMB.

The authors ask how a reasonable bridge load carrying system can be designed. Abstract:In recent years, the combined application of BIM and GIS technologies has demonstrated significant advantages in rail transit construction. As a crucial component, bridges are characterized by high complexity and diversity, thereby necessitating higher demands and standards for the integration of BIM and GIS technologies. Currently, some scholars both domestically and internationally have explored the application value and methods of BIM+GIS technologies at various stages of bridge engineering. This paper provides a comprehensive review of the application of BIM+GIS technologies throughout the entire lifecycle of bridge engineering (including design, construction, management, etc.), while also analyzing the advantages and existing challenges of BIM+GIS technologies in bridge construction.
Development and Application of Temperature Measurement System for Urban Bridges

Abstract:In recent years, with the rapid urbanization process and increased accidents of bridge damage and collapse, the research of bridge health monitoring and early-warning technology for the public safety has been promoted. Temperature load is one of the main loads to incur the deformation and the variation of stress of bridges. So temperature measurement is an important component of health monitoring for urban bridges. In this paper, a smart temperature measurement system is described which takes advantage of FBG sensor performance characteristics to improve the bridge temperature measurement. At present, the system has been integrated and applied in the project of main roads bridge Online Safety Monitoring Management System in Hangzhou (Phase II), a web-based urban bridge cluster monitoring system have been established since 2007. According to a tied arch bridge case studies, the one-year measurement data shows that the system not only can accurately collect the bridge temperature information and variety, but also successfully improve the performance benefits such as reduced measurement uncertainty, increased robustness, and failure prediction and detection.

Abstract:Based on the Internet of Things (IOT), the monitoring and conservation system design of historic bridge is carried out by integrating the modern bridge health monitoring, sensing technology and information technology. The basic framework of the system, the monitoring methods of the relative physical parameters and available sensor types for selecting are described. It may be served as the digital platform of the monitoring, assessment and conservation system design of historic bridge. It has a significantly scientific meaning and application value for realizing long-distance monitoring and conservation of historic bridge. Also, it is a new management model of culture heritage conservation.

Abstract:In order to know the safeties of large-span bridges, monitoring their real-time displacement and recording their fatigue history are very important. With the development of Global Position System (GPS) and computer science, the GPS of navigation satellites now can be used for the real-time monitoring of large-span bridge. The GPS monitoring system, which is developed by Tsinghua University, is introduced in this paper. It can be divided into two parts. One is the real-time displacement monitoring system. The other is the real-time displacement display system. This paper describes the principle, survey method and equipment needed for such system. Then, the test results of this system, which were carried on Tsing-ma Bridge of Hong Kong and Humen Bridge of Guangdong, are presented, too. The practical application shows that this system has such advantages as real-time, distinctness, and on influence to the traffic.

Abstract:To fulfill the navigation development plan of the Hu-Jia-Shen Channel,which is located in the eastern coast of China,it is necessary to upgrade its width and clearance height.Qifeng Bridge,an arch bridge over the channel,is required to be raised by 2.5 m using integral lifting methods.In this paper,the operation principles of the hydraulic jack system,the composition of the supporting structures as well as the lifting process of the bridge are introduced.For safety purposes,a 3D finite element method(FEM) model of the bridge and supporting system is established to analyze the characteristics of contact and stress distribution.The stress of superstructure and supporting structures are also monitored.

Abstract:The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB) has been recognized as the eighth wonder of the 21 st century. This research has used a quantitative approach through a questionnaire. A regression analysis has been conducted on HZMB users and tourists from GBA, to explore their different traveling behavior in terms of transport patterns and potential contextual factors influencing their perception and behavior. Findings illustrated that the HZMB has provided added convenience to tourists and encouraged visits to tourism attractions in the GBA cities. The research findings induce holistic significance to the area of sustainable tourism from the perspectives of regional integration and the development of transport infrastructure.

Abstract:Abstract with the development of economy and the reform of cities, the bridge engineering in China has entered a period of rapid development. By 2009, the number of highway bridges in China has exceeded that of the rest of the world. According to the statistics of 2014, the number of roads and bridges in China is 757100, and its extension meters reach 42.5789 million. The emergence of BIM technology has brought a new experience to China’s construction industry. Compared with the traditional CAD, the most significant change in BIM technology is to change building information from two-dimensional to three-dimensional. At the same time, BIM visualization, synergy and automation help building participants to do a lot of work better and more conveniently. Because of the continuous expansion of bridge engineering in China, bridge engineering has gradually become more complex and diverse, which has also brought problems to many industries. The research on BIM in our country is still in some surface stages. There are deeper things worth digging into.

Abstract:Even though large-scale projects, such as sea-crossing bridges and tunnels, have complex structures and service conditions, the structural health monitoring (SHM) system can comprehensively monitor the stress situation and damage evolution law in the entire construction and service process of such structures. Based on the background of the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macao Bridge, this study systematically introduces the overall goal and framework of the SHM system, monitoring content, and sensor information. Moreover, the structural health condition evaluation methods and data analysis methods are presented in detail. Then, on the basis of a multilayer data storage system, a fault-tolerant data center platform design, an open integrated supervision platform design, and other measures, a set of reliable and advanced large-scale software systems are built to achieve the SHM system for the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macao Bridge. Finally, the wind characteristics around the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macao Bridge and some of the monitored structural responses from the Super Typhoon Mangkhut in 2018 are shown, which verified that the SHM system can accurately and reliably monitor and feedback the environmental load and structural response of the principal parts of the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macao Bridge under complicated service environment.
