Abstract:Variation of seepage free surface with time is analyzed by finite element method that can perform the coupled analysis of soil mass deformation and pore water pressure dissipation,and the influence of variation of seepage free surface on excess pore water pressure,soil water potential and foundation pit deformations are also further investigated.It is indicated that excess pore water pressure and soil water potential will decrease when variation of seepage free surface outside the foundation pit is considered.Variation of seepage free surface causes the decrease of water pressure and the increase of effective stress outside the foundation pit,and also causes the decrease of the water head difference between the inside and outside of the foundation pit,and thus further results in the decrease of retaining structure horizontal displacement and pit base heave and the increase of ground surface settlement.

Abstract:Durability analysis of sea dam foundation is an important problem which distressed people all the time, especially in eastern Linhai area, where with continuous alternation of salty and fresh water, high humidity, long time of high temperature, and adverse circumstances. In present paper Linhai sea dam foundation is studied from three sides as a typical case, which is the designed water-cement ratio, carbonation depth of concrete, thickness of protective course for concrete. The anti-corrosion measures and some suggestion are set forth. In addition the effect of inundation on the stability of sea dam is studied. The studied result may be used as a basic for the engineering design of sea dam in the future. © 2004 Taylor & Francis Group, London,.
Analysis of Stability Against Upheaval of Deep Excavation by Upper Bound Method with a Consideration of Confined Water

Abstract:Based on the assumption of the Prandtl soil slip failure models and the consideration of the effect of confined water,the upper-bound limit analysis theory is adopted to establish the analysis method of the basal stability against upheaval and check formula.With the proposed formulas,the effects of the confined water head,the thickness of the impermeable soil layer and the depth of the retaining wall on the stability coefficient are discussed.Calculation results indicate that it is necessary to consider the effect of the confined water on the stability against upheaval of deep excavation,and the safety factor would be smaller with the increase of the confined water head.The comparison demonstrates the applicability of the method.The results provide a reasonable calculation method for the design of foundation pit subjected to confined water in soft clay.

Abstract:As the design modification resulted in abnormal condition that foundation pit of podium is deeper than that of main building, otherwise, construction period of podium is delayer relatively, so as to avoid the non-uniform settlement of main building for excavation reason, the major quality defects of basement were analyzed by means of research statistics on basement in similar projects. Construction control factors such as ground-water lowering of annex, water penetration around basement of main building and water supplement for soil layer of foundation were determined, and corresponding technologies such as installing precipitation wells in podium, water jetting hole in basement of main building, anti-seepage shear wall between two building and strengthening settlement monitoring for main building, the expected results were achieved by adopting these measures finally.

Abstract:Main types of the pier,abutment and foundation in substructure of RC or PC bridges in China were summarized respectively.It was pointed out that the main diseases in substructure of concrete bridges were differential settlement of foundations,insufficient carrying capacity,durability diseases of reinforced concrete,cracking of concrete pier columns,bent caps and abutments etc..In allusion to the concrete pier,abutment and foundation,the causes and mechanisms of these diseases were analyzed from the design,construction,maintenance and operation of bridges.The relevant maintenance and strengthening methods were also discussed,such as the foundation enlargement method,adding pile method and artificial foundation reinforcement method for concrete and RC pier or abutment foundation;the method of RC columns reinforced by reinforced concrete hoop or FRP for piers,the reinforcement method of pasting steel strips or plates,the method of external prestressed reinforcement and additional support method,etc.for RC bent caps;the method of reducing load,the method of reducing filling height by adding approach spans,the support beam method and the reinforcement method of installing auxiliary retaining wall,etc.for RC abutments.

Abstract:In this paper the major types of piers, abutment and foundation in substructure of RC or PC bridges in China are summarized. The main types of defects occurring in substructure of concrete bridges including uneven settlement of foundation, lower carrying capacity, durability defects of reinforced concrete and cracking of concrete pier columns as well as abutments and cap beams have been pointed out. In addition to the concrete pier, abutment and foundation, the causes and mechanisms of these defects were analyzed from different points of view such as design, construction, maintenance and operation management. The relevant maintenance and strengthening methods were discussed and put forward, such as the foundation enlargement method, adding pile method and artificial foundation reinforcement method for concrete and RC pier or abutment foundation, the method of RC pier columns reinforced by RC hoop or FRP for piers, the reinforcement method of pasting steel strip or plate, the method reinforced by external prestressed tendons and additional support columns method for RC cap beams, the method of reducing load, the method of reducing fill height by adding numbers of approach spans, the support beam method and the method reinforced by auxiliary retaining wall for RC abutments. It is possible to recover the function of the RC or PC bridges and enhance their durability and load carrying capacity by employing corresponding maintenance and strengthening measures. At the same time, vehicle overload should be strictly limited according to the structural safety matters.

Abstract:Abstract Prefabricated building construction has strong environmental protection characteristics and also shows high application advantages in terms of construction cost and construction efficiency. It plays a good role in promoting the construction technology level. However, in the process of prefabricated building construction, there still exists some inevitable quality defects, which have a large impact on the overall quality of the construction project. It is not conducive to the scientific development of the construction industry. Therefore, effective measures must be taken for the prefabricated assembly. The quality problems in building construction are prevented, so that the quality of building construction is effectively guaranteed. This paper analyzes the common quality problems in prefabricated building construction and puts forward some specific measures according to the actual situation, hoping to provide an effective reference for the prevention of common quality problems in prefabricated building construction.

Abstract:Considering the influence of the bracing structure,the limit analysis FEM is employed to establish the linear equations using plastic flow constraints,velocity discontinuous constraints and velocity boundary conditions with nodes velocities,plastic strain rates and non-negative variables as the unknown qualities.Based on the theory of energy balance,the objective function is established and the linear program is used to solve the linear equation.The influence of the un-drained strength and the depth of the retaining wall on the stability coefficient are discussed.Numerical results indicate that the safety factor would be larger with the increaseing depth of the bracing structure.The comparison demonstrates the applicability of the proposed method.The model proposed in this paper provides an effective tool for the design of foundation pit in soft clay.

Abstract:By integrally considering the interaction effects of superstructure and foundation,a limit analysis of box foundation is conducted,using the principle of virtual work together with a cruciform flexible damage model and a dual parabola foundation pressure model.From the analysis,a set of design formulas are proposed.In order to verify the validity of the proposed formulas,limit analysis of two realistic box foundations is carried out.Comparing with the actual measurements,the proposed formulas are proved to be rational and reliable.The limit analysis of the box foundation involves an simple calculations,and can be employed with several damage models.
