Abstract:The Shanghai HIgh repetitioN rate XFEL and Extreme light facility (SHINE) requires 77 superconducting quadrupole (SCQ) magnets for the installation in the Cryomodules of the superconducting linear accelerators. Each quadrupole magnet is designed with an integrated field error of ΔBL/BL ≤ 5×10 -4 and an integral field gradient of up to 3 T within the 10 mm-aperture. Correction steering coils are integrated in the quadrupole magnet, capable of providing an integral field greater than 10 Tmm in either the horizontal or the vertical direction for correcting the beam orbit. The quadrupole magnet is housed in the Cryomodule and conduction-cooled to below 4 K by connecting the magnet to a gas-liquid helium pipe via a pure-aluminum conductive sheet. This paper presents the magnetic design, fabrication process and performance test results of the pre-series and engineering SCQ magnets. Both the measured magnetic field strength and the integrated field errors meet the design requirements in either focusing the electron beam or correcting the beam orbit.
