Abstract:A gentle and effective method for the photocatalytic dual functionalization of allenes with high regio- and stereoselectivity using a nonmetallic catalyst is described. Inexpensive and easily available sulfinates and TMSN3 were employed as sulfone and azido sources, respectively. The method is characterized by satisfactory substrate compatibility and tolerance toward functional groups. The straightforward initial mechanistic experiments suggested that the reaction could follow a radical pathway. The synthesis of vinylsulfone azide derivatives presented here offers a promising scaffold for the future development of vinyl sulfone-based drugs and functional bioorthogonal reagents.

Abstract:A visible-light-induced highly efficient C(sp3)-H amination of ethers with amides and azoles has been presented under mild conditions via a nitrogen- and carbon-centered radical coupling process. This protocol successfully utilizes 2,3-dichloro-5,6-dicyano-p-benzoquinone (DDQ) and tert-butyl nitrite (TBN) as cocatalysts to deliver the aminated products of ethers under aerobic conditions. Notably, the developed reaction features the corresponding products in good yields (up to 93%) with a wide substrate scope. The mechanistic study indicates that C-N bond formation proceeds via a direct radical cross-coupling process. Preliminary biological activity analysis indicates that the resulting products have good and selective inhibitory activity on osteosarcoma (OS) cell lines and are promising for use as hits for drug discovery.

Abstract:An unprecedented straightforward reductive amidation of chloroalkanes with nitroarenes was readily accomplished by merging iron catalysis with visible light photoredox catalysis. A variety of commercially inexpensive abundant nitroarenes and chloroalkanes was directly transformed into diverse N-aryl amides under environmental benign mild conditions. This protocol was featured as avoidance of reductant and photocatalyst, simple manipulations, low cost, high step economy and good functional group tolerance. Moreover, nitrone as a possible active intermediate was isolated and characterized during the preliminary mechanism investigation, which revealed that successive twofold rearrangements should be involved in the catalytic cycle.

Abstract:We present a successful development of a photo‐induced mono‐bromination method for anilines, which eliminates the requirement for photocatalysts and excess bromine sources. Experimental investigations, complemented by computational analyses, establish that this method operates via the formation of an electron donor‐acceptor (EDA) complex. This innovative approach enables the synthesis of highly regioselective mono‐brominated products across a diverse range of substrates, all achieved under mild reaction conditions.

Abstract:A direct oxidative C-H amidation of heteroarenes with sulfonamides via nitrogen-centered radicals has been achieved. Nitrogen-centered radicals are directly generated from oxidative cleavage of N-H bonds under visible-light photoredox catalysis. Sulfonamides, which are easily accessed, are used as tunable nitrogen sources and bleach (aqueous NaClO solution) is used as the oxidant. A variety of heteroarenes, including indoles, pyrroles and benzofurans, can undergo this amidation with high yields (up to 92 %). These reactions are highly regioselective, and all the products are isolated as single regioisomer.
