Abstract:Based on the Chen-Mobius lattice inversion and a series of pseudopotential total-energy curves, a different method is presented to derive the ab initio interionic pair potentials for B1-type ionic crystals. Comparing with the experimental data, the static properties of B1- and B2-type NaCl are well reproduced by the interionic potentials. Moreover, the phase stability of B1-NaCl has been described by the energy minimizations from the global deformed and disturbed states. The molecular-dynamics simulations for the molten NaCl indicate that the calculated mean-square displacements, radial distribution function, and diffusion coefficients gain good agreements with the experimental results. It can be concluded that the inversion pair potentials are valid over a wide range of interionic separations for describing the structural properties of B1-type ionic crystals.

Lattice Inversion for Interionic Pair Potentials

Abstract:The ab initio total energies of alkali chloride crystals in B1 (rock salt), B2 (CsCl-type), B3 (zinc blende) and P4/mmm structures are calculated by ultrasoft pseudopotential method in this paper. Based on the different combinations of these total energies, the effective charges on ions are determined for long-range Coulomb interaction, and the short-range potential curves are obtained by the lattice inversion method. As the test for the quality of potentials, the static properties of ACl in the rock salt phase are calculated. The results are in good agreement with the experimental data. And the calculated lattice energies for ACl in wurtzite, CuAu, NiAs, and litharge structures are consistent with the predictions of pseudopotential calculations. In terms of the molecular dynamics simulations, the temperature dependences of volume, bulk modulus, and elastic constants are also investigated from room temperature to 800 K, the results are in good agreement with the experimental values. This indicates that the new interionic potentials are valid over a wide range of interionic separations and coordination numbers.

Abstract:Using Chen–Möbius inversion, we derive the interionic pair potentials from pseudopotential total-energy curves of the CaO crystals in B1, B3 and two P4/mmm virtual structures. Based on these potentials, the static properties of CaO in the rocksalt phase are calculated. Moreover, the phase stability of B1–CaO has been described by the energy minimizations from the disordered to the ordered states. Furthermore, the pressure-induced phase transition, phonon dispersion curves and properties of (CaO)n clusters have also been investigated. Compared with experimental data, most of our results indicate that the present calculated potentials are effective for studying properties of CaO ionic crystal.

Abstract:Based on the Chen-Mobius inversion, the interionic pair potentials are derived from the pseudopotential total energies of NaCl crystals in B1, B3, and two P4/mmm structures. Based on the pair potentials, the geometries and binding energies of the most stable neutral and charged clusters have been obtained by the energy minimizations. The cluster relative stability has also been discussed by analyzing the binding energies and the energies required to remove one NaCl molecule from clusters. The results show the good agreement with the calculations by previous empirical potentials and ab initio method. This indicates that the present inversion interionic pair potentials are valid over a fair wide range to cover both neutral and charged sodium chloride clusters (NaCl)(n), NanCln-1+, and (NaCl)(n)Cl-. Abstract:An error in the previous paper “Electro-optic coefficients r13 and r33 of singly Er3+-doped and In3+/Er3+-codoped LiNbO3 crystals” [J. Phys. Chem. Solids 100 (2017) 101–106] is corrected. The electro-optic coefficients γ33 and γ13 that were measured by applying a DC voltage to the crystal via the Al films coated onto the crystal surfaces are the unclamped instead of clamped coefficients.

Abstract:Based on the pseudopotential total energies of KCl polymorphism, the new interionic potentials have been derived by lattice inversion techniques. The static properties of Bl- and B2-type KCl are calculated to be consistent with the experiments. Then the intermediate states on the B1-B2 transition paths are predicted via the energy minimization at 30 GPa. With the predicted structures, the corresponding band structures and optical properties are also described in terms of the linear muffin-tin orbital atomic-sphere-approximation (LMTO-ASA) method.
