Abstract:The original article was published with an incorrect crystal model for the rod-like perovskite nanocrystals ( ﬁ gure 3(b)). Upon further analysis, it was found that the XRD data of the nanorods should be indexed to those of hexagonal PbI 2 nanocrystals, which belong to the space group P-3m1(164) with lattice parameters a = b = 4.56 Å, c = 6.98 Å, and α = β = 90 o , γ = 120 o . The optical absorption edge of the nanorods also matches the reported band gap of PbI 2 nanocrystals. With these results, it is concluded that the nanorod is in fact hexagonal PbI 2 nanocrystals instead of CH 3 NH 3 PbI 3 . The similar EDX spectrum of the nanorod sample to those of the CH 3 NH 3 PbI 3 nanoparticles is probably due to organic residues or a small proportion of CH 3 NH 3 PbI 3 phase in the nanorod sample. Abstract Hybrid organolead halide perovskites (CH 3 NH 3 PbI 3 ) with polymorphic structures have been successfully synthesized by controlling their solubility in solvents with different polarities. Crystal formation stages of the perovskites have been demonstrated for the ﬁ rst time. Shape changes of such perovskites are accompanied by transition in their crystal structures and variation of optical properties. Herein, a new trigonal phase for CH 3 NH 3 PbI 3 has been observed with a rod-like morphology. Photoemission study indicates a signi ﬁ cant red shift in the perovskite nanoparticles, compared to that of the rod-like nanocrystals. This solvent-controlled formation of polymorphic phases provide an additional approach for controlling the optical properties of CH 3 NH 3 PbI 3 for various optoelectronic applications.
