Abstract:Lead halide perovskite-based solar cells have shown a significant improvement in power conversion efficiency, ranging from 3.8% to 25.5%. Lead-based organic-inorganic hybrid perovskites under consideration exhibit promising potential as photovoltaic absorbers, with the aim of replacing APbX3 in halides. In this study, we employ the framework of first-principles density functional theory (DFT) computations to investigate the complex aspects that include the structural features, electronic conductivity, optical properties, elastic constants, and thermodynamic and thermal conductivity attributes of two captivating double perovskite (DP) based compounds, namely, Cs2AgInCl6-CAIC (type I) and Cs2AgSbCl6-CASC (type II) with the GGA-PBE method. The investigation of the electronic configuration, optical characteristics, elastic constants, thermodynamic stability, Raman, and infrared phonons, with a focus on the calculation of entropy, enthalpy, Helmholtz free energy, and specific heat capacity at a constant volume, has been thoroughly determined using the quasi-harmonic approximation approach to examine the thermodynamic attributes of materials. In this connection, it is important to highlight that CAIC and CASC-DP compounds are exhibiting semiconductor properties, characterized by their distinct band gap energies. Specifically, CAIC possesses a direct band gap energy of 1.812 eV, while CASC demonstrates an indirect band gap energy of 0.926 eV. The occurrence of strong covalent bonding within [In/Sb-Cl6]3- octahedra exhibits an ability towards engendering an increased dielectric function, accompanied by an evident refractive index, thereby exerting an influence upon the solid-state optical absorption spectra of the HDP system. Furthermore, it is observed that the CAIC and CASC exhibit intriguingly reduced thermal conductivity, which can be attributed to the notable reduction in their respective Debye temperatures, measuring 182 K and 135 K, respectively. The Raman active modes computed under ambient conditions have been compared with real-world data, showing excellent agreement. The thermal conductivity values of CAIC and CASC-DP compounds exhibit quantum mechanical characteristics, with value of 0.075 and 0.25 Wm-1K-1, respectively, at 300 K. It is foreseen that these outcomes will generate investigations concerning phosphors and diodes that rely on single emitters, with the aim of advancing lighting and display technologies in the forthcoming generations.
