Abstract:In this paper, we studied the geometry, stability, electronic and magnetic properties of the new magic Fe oxide clusters. For magic Fe9O6, the equilibrium geometries are determined to be a C-2v symmetry, where the skeleton composed of 9 metal atoms also has C-2v symmetry, different from the equilibrium structures of pure transition metal cluster Fe-9. The O atoms are energetically more favorable to cap the triangle surfaces. For magic Fe13O9, the equilibrium geometry is found to be D-4h symmetry, while the stable structure of Fe-13 is icosahedron. From the vibration frequency calculations, we found that D-4h structure is intrinsically stable, A(2mu) and E-mu modes are infrared active, whereas A(1g), B-1g, B-2g, and E-g modes are active in Raman scattering.
