Abstract:Me OTf-catalyzed formal [4 + 2] annulation of styrene oxides with alkynes to afford polysubstituted naphthalenes has been realized, which undergoes sequential electrophilic cyclization/ring expansion. A range of substrates were tolerated in the formation of naphthalene derivatives with high regioselectivity in satisfactory yields. The reaction could also be carried out on gram scale.

Abstract:Benzoquinone and 9-phenylanthracene barely undergo anticipated cycloaddition under acid catalysis. Instead, 9-anthracenyl aryl ethers are obtained as unexpected products. Mechanistic studies indicate that the reaction likely undergoes an ionic mechanism between protonated anthracene species and nucleophilic oxygen of 1,4-benzoquinone or 1,4-hydroquinone. A variety of 9-anthracenyl aryl ethers are constructed with this method. Produced anthracenyl aryl ethers are potential scaffolds for new fluorescent molecules.

Abstract:A sulfur-mediated electrophilic cyclization reaction of aryl-tethered internal alkynes has been developed. Triflic anhydride-activated sulfoxides induced the electrophilic cyclization and then demethylation with triethylamine in one pot, affording 3-sulfenyl-1,2-dihydronaphthalenes and related types of products in yields of <= 96%.

Abstract:A three‐component cyclization reaction of O‐acyl oximes, silyl enol ethers and elemental sulfur has been developed, in which silyl enol ether acts as a C1 synthon to participate in cyclization reaction and build series of 2‐aroylnaphthothiazoles and 2‐aroylbenzothienothiazoles. The preliminary exploration of the reaction mechanism indicated that this transformation probably proceeded through a radical process, involving S3•− as a key intermediate, enabling subsequent nucleophilic substitution with O‐acyl oximes to afford iminosulfur radical, which undergoes 1,3‐H shift to yield sulfur‐centered radical intermediate. And then this intermediate undergoes radical addition with silyl enol ether, leading to the formation of the titled products through intramolecular cyclization and oxidation. Moreover, the products obtained exhibit favorable fluorescence properties, which indicates their potential application as functional materials.

Abstract:Herein, we report a silver-catalyzed halogenation and electrophilic cyclization reaction based on the trifunctionalization of terminal alkynols with NBS or iodine monochloride in a step-efficient synthetic way to produce homo/heterodihalogenated naphthalene derivatives bearing two different halogen atoms in moderate to good yields. This methodology readily accommodates various functional groups, including electron-withdrawing nitro, cyano, acid-sensitive dioxazolyl, and alkoxy groups.

Abstract:The MeOTf/KI-catalyzed synthesis of 2-arylnaphthalene derivatives from aryl ethylene oxides in alcohol under ambient conditions is described. The present protocol has a higher atom efficiency and wider substrate applicability with excellent yields. The reaction proceeded using the aryl ethylene oxides to give 2-arylnaphthalenes either in homo-coupling or in cross-coupling. The reaction could also be carried out at the gram scale in minutes.

Abstract:A concise and efficient method for the synthesis of 1,4-naphthoquinones has been successfully developed involving a CuI/Cu(OTf)2/DMSO system-catalyzed intramolecular oxidative cyclization of (o-alkynyl)arylketones. The present protocol provided a novel approach to access functionalized 1,4-naphthoquinones from non-naphthoquinone precursors with good selectivity and functional group tolerance.

Abstract:We report a step-economic strategy for the direct synthesis of novel polycyclic N-heterocycle-fused naphthoquinones by merging intramolecular oxidative coupling and cascade [4 + 2] cycloaddition. In the protocol, mechanistic investigations suggest that the cascade reaction involves the intermediate spiro polycyclic N-heterocycles and [4 + 2] cycloaddition processes. This protocol is featured with moderate to excellent yields, wide substrate scope, and divergent structures of products. In addition, the photophysical properties of the synthesized products were evaluated. These products exhibit interesting fluorescence properties, and surprisingly, the compounds have the ability to selectively recognize trifluoroacetic acid.

Abstract:In this study, we proposed a novel electrochemical dehydrogenative synthetic method for preparing 2-substituted quinoxalines by intermolecular cyclization of aryl alkyl ketones and o -phenylenediamines. This method gave various quinoxalines in yields ranging from 35% to 71%. This novel protocol employs mild reaction conditions and offers moderate to excellent yields, a wide substrate scope, and broad functional-group compatibility. Furthermore, a late-stage functionalization and the wide substrate scope demonstrated the synthetic utility of this protocol. Abstract:We have successfully developed a novel synthetic route for the synthesis of naphthyridinones. This was achieved through a reaction between formyl-phenylpropiolamides and arylamines, utilizing an intramolecular Povarov reaction. Notably, this reaction exhibited remarkable tolerance towards a wide range of substituents, resulting in the formation of diverse products using simple reaction conditions. Additionally, we discovered that the same substrates can undergo intramolecular carbonyl-alkyne metathesis reactions in the absence of anilines. This versatile transformation enabled the synthesis of quinolinones and chromen-2-ones with high yields.
