Abstract:An oxidative nucleophilic cyclization of 2-alkynylanilines with thiophenols under metal-free conditions was developed. The one-pot two-step reaction involves a PhI(OAc)2-mediated oxidative dearomatization and a Brønsted acid promoted nucleophilic cyclization. DFT calculations were performed to understand the reaction pathway.

Abstract:A radical cascade decarboxylation/cyclization of 2-isocyanobiphenyls with aliphatic carboxylic acids as well as aromatic carboxylic acids under the transition metal-free conditions was reported. This process, which included formation of two new C-C bonds and cleavage of C-COOH bonds, afforded a novel and environmentally friendly approach to producing 6-alkyl/aryl phenanthridines with moderate to good yields.

Abstract:A facile and efficient synthetic approach to C6 functionalized phenanthridines was developed. Abstract:It is important to achieve diverse functionalization of tertiary anilines due to their importance in biological molecules, pharmaceutical, functional materials, and ligands. A straightforward Pd/Cu-catalyzed oxidative C-H bond activation/N-dealkylative carbonylation of tertiary [1,1'-biphenyl]-2-anilines towards the synthesis of various biologically important phenanthridin-6(5H)-ones has been developed. A wide range of functional groups are well tolerated in this transformation. Moreover, O2 is utilized as the terminal oxidant to promote the oxidative carbonylation process.

Abstract:An unprecedented olefination reaction of secondary amines with carbon nucleophiles has been developed through C–N/C–H functionalization under metal‐free oxidative conditions. In the presence of a stoichiometric amount of 2,3‐dichloro‐5,6‐dicyano‐1,4‐benzoquinone (DDQ), a range of secondary N ‐alkylanilines smoothly underwent oxidative olefination with 2‐alkylazaarenes, acetophenone, and malononitrile to give structurally diverse polysubstituted alkenes in moderate to excellent yields with excellent ( E ) selectivity. Preliminary mechanistic studies revealed that the oxidative olefination reaction proceeds through amine oxidation followed by imine olefination.

Abstract:A novel NIS-mediated oxidative cyclization of N-(2-trifluoromethyl-3-alkynyl)hydroxylamines is developed, which provides a facile access to 4-trifluoromethyl-5-acylisoxazoles in 33-91% yields. Various types of commonly used electrophilic halogen source such as ICl, I-2, NIS, NBS and NCS at different temperatures in various solvents were investigated. It was found that the NIS acts as both an oxidant and an electrophile for the present sequential transformation. The scope, mechanism and application of this NIS-mediated domino reaction for further synthetic transformation were studied.

Abstract:Here, a novel iodine-catalyzed direct cyclization of o-nitrothiophenols with cyclohexanones to phenothiazines has been described without external oxidants and hydrogen acceptors.
