Abstract:The paper introduces the research trend for the access bottleneck between the data intensive computing architecture and memory. Aiming at the high needs for the data intensive computing architecture’s access to memory, an integrated DDR SDRAM controller is presented and prototyped in FPGA. The key points for the DDR SDRAM controller are a fixed initiation procedure and its dedicated custom system bus. Simulation results and analysis demonstrate the controller basically conquers the access bottleneck between the data intensive computing architecture and memory.

Abstract:This paper implements the memory controller and its PHY layer on the FPGA according to the DDR3 timing requirements. Successive comparison algorithm this paper proposes and Digital Clock Manager(DCM) are used to realize fast and accurate write leveling and the final phase skew is within 39ps. This paper proposes loop access strategy for memory access, which reduces the waiting time and improves the actual data bandwidth. This design is implemented on XC4VSX55 FPGA chip of Xilinx. The experimental results show that the memory controller bandwidth is 9.1Gbps, and the interface bandwidth is 2.28Gbps.

Abstract:With the development of embedded systems, more and more applications require large and high speed memory. The FPGA-based solution also faces the same demand. Design and realization of an external storage with large capacity and high throughput in the FPGA-based embedded system is becoming a challenge. To satisfy the practical requirement, a DDR2 controller design is proposed, which efficiently and selectively integrates with the Altera DDR2 SDRAM High Performance Controller (HPC) module. Finally, the optimized DDR2 SDRAM controller based on Altera HPC is realized, and the goal that data accesses for DDR2 SDRAM with the ability of increase channel and relatively huge burst size is achieved. The optimized DDR2 controller has been implemented and verified in the Altera EP2SGX90E FPGA, and revealed a significant improvement in the performance compared with the individual HPC module. The experimental results show that this optimized DDR2 SDRAM controller demonstrates the properties of multichannel and high bandwidth memory access.

Abstract:The implementation of SDRAM controller for embedded real-time image processing system is presented.According to the request of data transmission rate and continuity in real-time system,SDRAM is programmed with full-page burst mode and asynchronous FIFOs are used as data buffer between FPGA and SDRAM.The pipeline architecture based on ping-pong operation,which can achieve seamless temporary store,is introduced to cooperate with the full-page burst mode and make full use of SDRAM′s high-efficient access property.This method is applied to a real-time infrared thermal imaging system and the result shows that this controller has the features of high executing efficiency,less resources occupation and powerful portability.

Abstract:High-speed and high-capacity data ping-pong storage without dead time is a key technology in seismic data acquisition systems.A design was proposed that realizes two DDR SDRAM controllers by sharing the same PLL and DLL in an FPGA and was applied in the fiber connection interface board(FCI)in high-precision marine seismic data acquisition and recording systems.The FCI is responsible for seismic data reception,data ping-pong storage,data convertion from time sequence into channel sequence,etc.Final system simulation and test results showed that the controllers can be operated stably at the frequency of 133 MHz,achieving the expected goal of the design.

Abstract:DDR SDRAM is similar in function to the regular SDRAM but doubles the bandwidth of the memory by transferring data on both edges of the clock cycles. DDR SDRAM most commonly used in various embedded application like networking, image or video processing, Laptops ete. Now a days many applications needs more and more cheap and fast memory. Especially in the field of signal processing, requires significant amount of memory. The most used type of dynamic memory for that purpose is DDR SDRAM. For FPGA design the IC manufacturers are providing commercial memory controller IP cores working only on their products. Main disadvantage is the lack of memory access optimization for random memory access patterns. The data path part of those controllers can be used free of charge. This work propose an architecture of a DDR SDRAM controller, which takes advantage of those available and well tested data paths and can be used for any FPGA device or ASIC design.(5). In most of the SOC design, DDR SDRAM is commonly used. ARM processor is widely used in SOCs; so that we focused to implement AHB compatible DDR SDRAM controller suitable for ARM based SOC design.

Abstract:This paper carried out the HDTV system-on-a-chip architecture and several design policies of SDRAM controller based on analysis of hardware implementation performance of video standard codec, including scheduling policy and bandwidth utilization-aware optimization. Two stage request pool together with fixed priority policy settle the problem of shared resources conflicts; changed FSM architecture with 2 banks hide cas latency which advances bandwidth utilization; all nop states are combined to a single state to make the implementation reuse by reconfiguration.

Abstract:A design method of high reliability SDRAM controller based on FPGA is proposed for data cache utilized in space electromagnetic environment.This controller is modularized from top to bottom,including two layers state machine of top control and bottom driver.Its reliability is improved by the functions of power-on self-checking and critical control module triple modular redundancy(TMR).Finally,the FPGA hardware implementation and testing of the controller are completed,and the test results show that this design is highly reliable and flexible,which can be provided as guidance for realization of a practical data cache system in space electromagnetic environment.

Abstract:For different applications,sampled data may contain different type signals,which need varied data frame structure to be processed.Therefore,flexible storage and reconstruction of the sampled data for dada processing are needed.A structural state machine was designed for storage control of SDRAM,which is based on a file structure data cache storage program with FPGA.Likewise,a reconstruction module of data frame structure is also realized.This new design is applied in a practical system with good performance in speed and reliability,and it also can be easily used in other storage systems with its flexibility.

Abstract:An application to improve the performance of DDR memory controller based on network processor is described in this paper. The DDR memory controller is designed to prefetch instructions to get the address relationship of consecutive instructions in advance. The controller can be able to utilizing the policy of Open Page or bank interleaving while the current instruction is executing. The performance of interfacing Virtex-II FPGA to DDR shows that the DDR memory controller can reduce access latency of DDR memory.

Abstract:Undoubtedly faster, larger and lower power per bit, but just how do you go about interfacing a DDR3 SDRAM DIMM to an FPGA? The DDR3 standard addresses the faster, more bandwidth and lower power per bit need, but it introduces new design challenges in addition to challenges introduced by DDR2 ODT, slew rate derating, etc. The DDR3 fly-by topology requirement means customers designing DDR3 memories must now account for write leveling and read de-skew on the PCB. This paper will cover modeling, simulation, and physical layout approaches required to meet JEDEC-defined termination and tight timing requirements for designing DDR3 memory interfaces on PCB systems.
