Abstract:This paper presents an SDRAM interface design for video processing circuit, which balances between performance and mode selection with high efficient full-page mode and ping-pang mode of a SDRAM. It provides a new approach to high-speed data processing with large high-in-out-rate memories.

Abstract:In this paper, the storage demands of SDRAM is analyzed, taking the architecture of MPEG-2 as an example. Three ways of reducing the video frame storage are proposed, and their main design points are explained. The experimental results justify that the proposed ways can reduce storage demands of a whole chip to a single 16Mbit SDRAM, thus reducing the cost of the chip greatly.

Abstract:The paper introduces the research trend for the access bottleneck between the data intensive computing architecture and memory. Aiming at the high needs for the data intensive computing architecture’s access to memory, an integrated DDR SDRAM controller is presented and prototyped in FPGA. The key points for the DDR SDRAM controller are a fixed initiation procedure and its dedicated custom system bus. Simulation results and analysis demonstrate the controller basically conquers the access bottleneck between the data intensive computing architecture and memory.

Abstract:This paper carried out the HDTV system-on-a-chip architecture and several design policies of SDRAM controller based on analysis of hardware implementation performance of video standard codec, including scheduling policy and bandwidth utilization-aware optimization. Two stage request pool together with fixed priority policy settle the problem of shared resources conflicts; changed FSM architecture with 2 banks hide cas latency which advances bandwidth utilization; all nop states are combined to a single state to make the implementation reuse by reconfiguration.

Abstract:A high performance SDRAM controller for HDTV video decoder is proposed. Configured with multiple ports and integrated with an arbitration function, the SDRAM controller proposed can be used in place of traditional structures of bus + DMA to share the bandwidth resource of the SDRAM among several function blocks in the HDTV decoder. The SDRAM controller consists of pipelined address path and data path, which take advantage of the pipeline feature of the SDRAM to enable the controller to process access requests from each port continuously, so that the storage volume of on-chip memories is significantly reduced. The simulation results show that up to 70% of the on-chip memories could be reduced compared to the traditional bus + DMA structures, while the performance for HDTV decoding is assured.

Abstract:The huge SDRAM bandwidth requirement is an architectural bottleneck of video decoders. Besides the large amounts of data transmission cycles, many extra overhead (up to over 50%) are incurred by the active or precharge (A\P) operations in conventional SDRAM controllers. In this paper, we propose an optimized SDRAM controller, which can improve the bandwidth efficiency by eliminating most of the extra overhead. An access management scheme that enables consecutive data transmission is employed to reduce the need of A\P operations. In addition, a scheduler is designed to hide the latency for A\P operations. Experimental result shows that the SDRAM controller is able to meet the bandwidth requirement of real-time decoding 1080P H.264 video streams, at less than 100 Mhz with 32-bit DDR SDRAM.

Abstract:To solve intensive application ,a DDR2 SDRAM control system for multi‐core system and memory intensive application is proposed . The paper focus on various optimization techniques in structure ,control and schedule strategy .It also puts forward a new address mapping method that will improve the overall bandwidth .The mapping method transfers different requests to different banks ,rows and columns .With the control policy ,the performance of system gets promoted .Synthesize tool is used to evaluate the hardware expense .Experiments show that in the control system ,SDRAM controller brings up better performance .

Abstract:In this paper, an address mapping method for multi-standard video is presented, which maps video picture into the memory space of DDR SDRAM with a simple formula. The method gives attention to the different characteristics of motion compensation module, deblock filter module (or reconstruct module) and display module, and enhances DDR SDRAM's interface efficiency by fully reducing the time delay of non-read/write commands.

Abstract:This paper concerns appropriate 3D DRAM architecture design and the potential of using 3D DRAM to implement both L2 cache and main memory in 3D multi-core processor-DRAM integrated computing systems. We first present a coarse-grained 3D partitioning strategy for 3D DRAM design that can well exploit the benefits provided by 3D integration without incurring stringent constraints on through-silicon via (TSV) fabrications. Targeting multi-core processors, we further present design techniques that can effectively reduce the access latency of 3D DRAM L2 cache, hence improve the overall 3D integrated computing system performance. The effectiveness of these developed design techniques have been successfully evaluated based on CACTI-based memory modeling and full system simulations over a wide spectrum of multi-programmed workloads. Simulation results show that the proposed heterogeneous 3D DRAM design can improve the harmonic mean IPC by 23.9% on average compared with a baseline scenario using 3D DRAM only as the main memory.

Abstract:In this paper by use of Hardware Description Language (VHDL) and Complex Programmable Logic Device (CPLD), a design of the interface between TMS320VC33 and Synchronous DRAM (SDRAM) is accomplished, and expatiate the methods that solve the problems of access timing conversion and conflict between access and refresh in detail. Using this interface TMS320VC33 can access Dynamic RAM as easy as access Static RAM. The capacity of DSP system memory is improved greatly by use of this interface, and the need of DSPs application in data acquisition and image processing is met. Because this interface is designed by VHDL and CPLD, it can be modified easily to interface with other microprocessors or buses.

Abstract:This paper is an overview of the high-speed DRAM architecture developments. We discuss developments on density growth, interface technology, memory-core architecture, and DRAM+ASIC technology. We can find the developments of density as 2/spl times/ growth instead of 4/spl times/ by each generation. Interface technologies will have a tendency to use the terminated bus structure for higher data rate. Memory-core architecture developments are the trials for actual bandwidth improvements. DRAM+ASIC technologies seem to require universal interface solutions. We tried to show that no single solution is able to cover the wide diversity of future system requirements.

Abstract:The implementation of SDRAM controller for embedded real-time image processing system is presented.According to the request of data transmission rate and continuity in real-time system,SDRAM is programmed with full-page burst mode and asynchronous FIFOs are used as data buffer between FPGA and SDRAM.The pipeline architecture based on ping-pong operation,which can achieve seamless temporary store,is introduced to cooperate with the full-page burst mode and make full use of SDRAM′s high-efficient access property.This method is applied to a real-time infrared thermal imaging system and the result shows that this controller has the features of high executing efficiency,less resources occupation and powerful portability.

Abstract:This paper presents an optimized mapping of pixels into the external SDRAM for H.264/AVC video decoding. The modern SDRAM system usually employs the burst-access mode as well as the multi-bank architecture to improve the utility efficiency. If the accessed video pixels can be placed uniformly and successively across different memory banks, both of them will be used with high efficiency. Based on a statistic method, this paper traces and analyzes the actual memory accesses of H.264/AVC decoding and gives an optimized placement of pixels in the SDRAM-the optimized data unit is 8x8. Moreover, the efficiencies of the optimized cache and pre-fetch technologies are also evaluated, which show that this optimization can improve both the cache hit ratio and the pre-fetch effect apparently.

Abstract:This paper proposes a high efficiency memory controller for an H.264 HDTV decoder with synchronous DRAMs. As H.264 adopts tree structured (supports small block size) motion compensation, the bandwidth requirement of an H.264 HDTV decoder is higher than previous video processing algorithms. This requires to be optimized. Based on H.264 decoding data access behavior analysis, an SDRAM controller with new memory mapping method has been designed to reduce the overhead cycles of page-activation. Experiment results indicate that the new controller has improved by one-third the performance of the bus cycles. In addition, the architecture of the controller has also given low power consumption and less complexity in the VLSI design.

Abstract:This paper concentrates on providing a practical example addressing difficulty in circuit and layout design of dual-port SRAM(DPSRAM) which is embedded in display control/driver circuit. The initial part of this article explores the special requirements and characteristics of embedded DPSRAM used in the display control/driver circuits. A detailed design of DPSRAM is provided in the next part, including the memory cell, decoders and Sense Amplifier (SA). Next presents a brief summary of the AC electrical characteristics of this embedded DPSRAM with the layout of the whole chip attached. Last gives the test report of the SRAM to verify the correctness of DPSRAM.
