Abstract:Markets are one of the most fundamental institutions in human societies.In principle,from the times of Adam Smith economic research has been developed around the subject of markets.However,to date,economists have failed to offer a theory of the market itself.Following the Coasian paradigm,this paper explored the basic question of "why do markets exist" and identified both the boundary and substitution conditions of the existence of the market.Based on the existence theory of the market,we further examined how ubiquitous multilateral transaction costs shape the macro-framework and micro-structure of the market network and how these transaction costs determine the nature and function of firms within market network as well as how transaction costs and market network affect economic growth.This paper concludes that today's economics should study the market not only as an invisible hand but also as a tangible network.
Exploring Exchanges' Expansion Road-Based On The Analysis Of Ice Merging Nyse Euronext

Abstract:Development of capital markets promotes the rise of global M&A waves. The domestic and foreign scholars are interested in whether exchanges could expand through M&A. This study starts from the merging of ICE-NYSE Euronext's background and motivation, then on the basis of the relevant data processing to analyze the impact of the acquisition on its size, performance and influence. The study finds that after M&A the market share of ICE rising from 14th position in 2010 to the global No. 2 in 2013, further validates the acquisition can expand the size of the exchanges' market and enhance its industry position. It is obviously that M&A can make the two sides reach a win-win situation. Thus, the study also gives some beneficial policy recommendations for China's domestic exchanges to realize merger.

Abstract:Business can be organized in multiple forms: as relations, hierarchies or markets. Of these, the dominance of markets in business is a modern and emerging phenomenon. What are the enabling conditions that give rise to markets, and the decline of other particularized forms of doing business? I study the question empirically by investigating the decline of merchant guilds and the rise of impersonal markets. For much of the second millennium, merchant guilds were the dominant organizational form in which trade was conducted in Europe. While merchant guilds persisted throughout Europe until the onset of the industrial revolution, they began to decline in Northwestern Europe in the sixteenth century. To explain the pattern, I hypothesize that networked institutions such as merchant guilds decline when an economy is exposed to trade and information shocks that reduce moral hazard and incomplete information, and reduce the need to rely on embedded institutions such as merchant guilds. I construct a dataset of medieval and early modern European cities and argue that merchant guilds declined and impersonal markets emerged in sixteenth century Northwestern Europe because the region benefited simultaneously from two revolutions: the commercial revolution at the Atlantic coast and Gutenberg’s printing revolution.

Abstract:The first half of the 18 th century is not only the turning point of the European culture, but also the dividing line of its view on China. The cognition of the difference and antagonism between China and the West based on modern capitalism gradually took place of the effort of portraying the universality of them under the religious authority. In fact, both the Eurocentric approach with the personage of Hegel and Weber, and the China-centered approach representative of Frank and Pomeranz jointly indicate that the basic stand of the European view on China never disengage from the standard of their own. Their evaluation of China and the Chinese culture constantly changes with their different self-cognition and self-evaluation, and depends on their different demand on this alien culture. And how to realize the satisfying communication between different cultures is still a question requiring strenuous consideration and hard practice.

Abstract:The study of the Holy Roman Empire, a medieval state on the territory of modern-day Germany and Central Europe, has attracted generations of qualitative economic historians and quantitative scholars from various fields. Its bordering position between Roman and Germanic legacies, its Carolingian inheritance, and the numerous small states emerging from 1150 onward, on the one hand, are suspected to have hindered market integration, and on the other, allowed states to compete. This has inspired many research questions around differences and communalities in culture, the origin of the state, the integration of good and financial markets, and technology inventions, such the printing press. While little is still known about the economy of the rural population, cities and their economic conditions have been extensively studied from the angles of economic geography, institutionalism, and for their influence on early human capital accumulation. The literature has stressed that Germany at this time cannot be seen as a closed economy, but only in the context of Europe and the wider world. Global events, such as the Black Death, and European particularities, such as the Catholic Church, never stopped at countries’ borders. As such, the literature provides an understanding for the prelude to radical changes, such as the Lutheran Reformation, religious wars, and the coming of the modern age with its economic innovations.

Abstract:In this paper, the author gave a theoretical discussion on China' s economic system evolution and current economic structure, with the light of the concept of fief economy based on information space theory. The author argued that China' s economic system had no other choice but leading on the way to evolutionary net-work marketization, since the foregone long-lasting fief system gave her many restrictions. Therefore, to stick to the faith of so-called socialist market construction had, logically, a deep-rooted foundation both on political and economic scenes.

Abstract:This article points out that the maritime world of the late Ming China had changed in the following aspects:1,the Eastern sea trading became more significant than the previous times and strongly impacted the economic and monetary systems of China;2,the trading environment became more complicated because both the Chinese and Western merchants were involved in pirate activities;3,the reconstructed Chinese sea power rebuilt maritime order and became more powerful than the Western powers in certain area.These changes mean that China had started its structural transformation together with the other parts of the world.

Abstract:The era of the seventeenth to mid-nineteenth centuries was one when the exchange of books between China and Japan was most frequent and common.The pattern of book exchange also changed greatly.Besides being articles of traditional cultural exchange,Chinese classic works took on the characteristics of commercial goods.Taking Chinese local Gazetteers as a ease study,this paper examines the number,channel,price and profit of Chinese local gazetteers' expert to Japan from seventeenth to mid-nineteenth centuries from the perspective of economies.The article also probes the characteristics of the local gazetteers traded between China and Japan and explores the reasons for Japanese collection of local gazetteers. From this perspective we obtain a deeper understanding of the importance of Chinese local gazetteers in the historical literary exchange between China and Japan.

Abstract:It has been more than 70 years since 1930s when the question of the long period duration of Chinese feudal society was put forward and the studies on the history of late Ming Dynasty was involved. Generally, the related key points cluster in foru aspects: Firstly, it is a social-economical viewpoint, in which the core is the questioning with the budding of capitalism as the center. Secondly, it is a viewpoint of modernization, which is from a pattern of western-challenge-and-Chinese-response to the theory taking China as the center, and turns more to Chinese indigenous experience. Thirdly, it is a social viewpoint, which leads to an epistemology of multi-structure. Fourthly, it is a global viewpoint, which establishes a wholesome concept, and in this viewpoint the studies of late Ming Dynasty history goes deepening. By taking currency as an engine, and in the context of the budding of market economy, the whole society of late Ming Dynasty formed a chain reaction, The tradition, influenced by multiple elements, such as economy, politics, society, thought, and culture, etc., turns to a near-modern society. It can be summarized into a process of currency, an orientation of near-modernization, and a double mission, i.e., being towards near-modernization and globalization.

Abstract:The scholarly literature generally holds that the charters granted to markets and cities in medieval Europe promoted the development of commerce,which in turn contributed to the demise of feudalism.To a certain extent,this value judgment exaggerates the role of charters and the opposition between commerce and feudalism.In fact,commerce was always an important part of feudalism and the feudal economy.Granted in a top-down process by kings and rulers,charters simply provided some necessary conditions for the smooth operation of trade.Their purpose was to restrict commercial activities within a certain range.That is to say,the so-called"promotion"of commerce was premised on its restriction.

Abstract:Taking the economy growth as the measure,The Rise of Western World published in 1973 advocates that economy growth is to provide stimulus for economy innovation and economy growth is dertermined by efficient development of ownership and economic organization. Specifically,ownership system provides stimulus via psychology,and organizations manage aiming to maintain order. The factors to promote economy growth are market expansion, new emerged merchants class, business innovation,fall of trade fee,price wave,and improvement of productivity. In business field,freedom and equality mainly refer to free competition and equal chance to earn money. Renaissance enhances the consciousness of freedom which leads to the weak of autocracy,while religious reform strengthens the consciousness of equality which leads to the weak of religious power. As a result,the civil power is enhanced. Different to the fall of guild,the civil society begins to develop which leads to the new civil class make full preparation for the establishment of capitalism. The congress in the centralized national countries puts its focus on whether the congress or king controlls taxation. In general,the government can make systems that are good or bad to the social interests,which in turn determines the development or degeneration of the economy efficiency.

Abstract:The commercial expansion of earlier European colonialists upset,in a way,the long existing China-centered Tributary State System in East Asia,meanwhile,it helped establish a more extensive trading system by exploiting the then Tributary State commercial network;thus,some of the ports and islands along the southeast China coast integrated into the European dominant trading system set up after the mid 16th century.The fact that the imperial Ming government granted Yue-gang Port to be an opening port to private business on the sea resulted from the power struggle of different parts which reflects the conservative nature of the feudal empire.

Abstract:With functional evolution, the market structure of international exchange is characteristic of coexistence of monopoly and competition, with the latter being increasingly intensified. in recent years. This trend can be attributed to the strengthening of scale-economy and the relation of accession-barrier of stock exchange because of technological advance. Market structure determines that the stock exchange in the international market tightens increasingly the control over the market by means of rectification and integration, differential competition, and inter-business cooperation. In addition, the exchange exerts fundamental influence on the efficiency of market operation by reducing transaction cost. Based on the insight, this article advances the suggested policies on the developing strategy of stock exchanges in China.

Abstract:ABSTRACTNew global history studies have provided theoretical models related to different paths of economic growth and consumer behaviour between East Asia (mainly China and Japan) and Europe during the period of the first industrialisation. However, more research challenging the Eurocentric views of the origins of globalisation is needed. In this article, I examine the exchanges of Chinese silks and porcelains and European wines and liquors for American silver through the Swedish Grill Company. This company had extensive business activities in Canton and Macao establishing strategic links and intermediation with other relevant companies from China, Manila, Seville and Marseille. On the global level, such exchanges played a crucial role for the accumulation of American silver in China during the Qing dynasty, and the outflows of Chinese goods to the Americas and Europe fostered market integration and globalisation that occurred earlier than 1820.

Abstract:The history evolution of Western Economics in late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China was an important part of the modern transition in Chinese traditional academy.Since modern times,seeking a road to head for survival and prosperity was a critical urgency,forced some scholars to realize the importance of Western Economics and Western Economics spread rapidly in China.However,under the impact of time-saving mindset,the spread of knowledge and the construction of disciplinary system was not a mechanical transformation from the west or the logical requirement of itself,but subjected to the theme of the times and social identification.Investigating the development history of economics in China would help to increase our understanding of the modern transition in Chinese traditional academy.
